Phonia

Last updated 2026-08-06

Phonia is an open-world NPC located at the Knights of Favonius Base, Dornman Port, Windrest Peak, Mondstadt. She was originally an NPC exclusive to quests and events who first appeared in the event Dodoco's Bomb-Tastic Adventure.

Location

During Dodoco's Bomb-Tastic Adventure
During Dodoco's Boom-Bastic Escapades
During Exercise Surging Storm
During Dodoco's Blow-Up-Erative Bomb-Nanza

Profile

Phonia is a member of the Knights of Favonius. Originally, she was a Signals Officer of the intelligence division of the Investigation Team, led by Albedo. Before the events of Mutual Security Enhancing Simulation, the 7th Company was reformed and Phonia was transferred there as its Intelligence Officer. Her fellow Investigation Team member, Ematol, was also transferred there as the Weapons Officer at Phonia's behest, resulting in the two of them often appearing together.

Phonia is currently living with Ematol as a roommate. This arrangement goes back to their time in the City of Mondstadt, during which Ematol was also Phonia's tenant.[1] Following their transfer to Dornman Port, Phonia rented out her house in Mondstadt and the two of them moved into a new place together. Dustball, the cat Ematol adopted some time after the events of Feline Fortress Furrdyssey, is also living with them. Their ongoing living situation is occasionally brought up in their dialogue during subsequent events, as well as their permanent dialogue.

Sometime before the events of Paralogism, Phonia went on an expedition to Dragonspine but failed to return. Her absence was noted by the other Knights, and she only returned to Mondstadt after Durin's siege was repulsed, this time under Durin's influence. She arrived at the side gate alone, but realized that no one was there before she met with Jean and the others at the plaza. Claiming that everything was fine, Jean immediately questioned the circumstances of her arrival, and she attempted to flee, only to be stopped by two other Knights. She was subsequently apprehended and watched over, presumably making a recovery after Albedo depleted Durin's heart.

Appearance

Phonia wears one of the standard uniforms of the Knights of Favonius. The uniform consists of a black long-sleeved shirt, tight-fitting pants under a gray skirt and a white plate armor worn on top. Unlike other knights, she does not have her knees covered and only has greaves on her legs. The Knights of Favonius crest decorates her breastplate.

Idle Quotes

Icon Dialogue Idle The selection process...
Media:VO Phonia 01.ogg "The selection process is going well."

Dialogue

Phonia: The selection is going pretty well... Ah, it's you, Honorary Knight. We meet again.
Icon Dialogue Talk White "Selection"? What is this for?
Phonia: We're looking for new Signals Officers.
Phonia: To ensure that we have the upper hand wherever we fight, and on when and where we fight, we must improve our ability to gather and act on battlefield intelligence.
Phonia: The role of Signals Officer was created fairly recently for this very purpose.
Phonia: Unlike the Outriders who move fast and light, Signal Officers stay back, hold position, and coordinate closely with the main troops.
Phonia: Their alchemical recon gear is complex and demanding, and in terms of mobility, they sit somewhere between the light infantry and armored knights. This also means that they are more dependent on teamwork and coordination.
Phonia: According to our plan, once the relevant equipment and protocols are fully in place, Signals Officers will be assigned to every company. This ensures that capabilities are enhanced evenly and across the board.
Icon Dialogue Talk White That sounds like quite a challenging role...
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'm guessing there's a lot to learn, then?
Phonia: Yes. Overall, a Signals Officer is certainly held to more stringent standards than a regular knight.
Phonia: Just a few years back, I was still concerned that the technical requirements were too tough and that few would be able to meet them...
Phonia: That's because only three individuals had managed to pass Leonore's initial screening, and in the end, I was the only one left standing by the time equipment testing was finally complete.
Phonia: And even though I've transitioned to the role of Intelligence Officer since, I'm still handling several matters related to the project.
Phonia: Fortunately, the knights coming back from the expedition have shown themselves to be more capable with new concepts and complex mechanisms than anticipated. The plan is well on track.
Phonia: Hopefully we can get the first group of Signals Officers in place before the next major battle. That will significantly increase our combat effectiveness.
Icon Dialogue Talk White How have you been lately?
Phonia: I'm... Work-wise, I'm doing great.
Phonia: I've been recovering well, and have returned to work at full strength.
Phonia: I've got the Acting Grand Master and Captain Albedo to thank for that. Only Ematol and the knights who escorted me back then know exactly what happened to me.
Phonia: Most of my fellow knights don't think less of me, and I'm able to get my work done without trouble.
Phonia: I've also finished the outline for my book, "The Knight's Guide to the Prevention and Management of Psychic Disruption," which uses my misstep as a case study. I'll do my best to complete the full manuscript as soon as possible.
Icon Dialogue Talk White And what's going on in the rest of your life?
Phonia: Ah, thanks for asking...
Phonia: After my transfer here to Dornman Port, I rented out my house and moved into a new place here with Ematol.
Phonia: We have plenty of space in the living room for cat trees and cat toys, as well as for Dustball, the cat Ematol adopted.
Phonia: Thanks to the two of them, I've been in a rather good mood lately...
Phonia: Leonore also comes by to see us every now and then. It does feel like my life is becoming more interesting.
Phonia: Say, if you're ever around and have the time, do drop by for some tea too. I'd love to pick your brain about possible future directions for the Knights of Favonius.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'll see you again some other time.
Phonia: Of course. I'll be here.

Event Dialogue

Dodoco's Bomb-Tastic Adventure

Dialogue Set #1

Available before finishing the last event challenge

Phonia: Honorary Knight, and The Helper in White. Phonia of the Investigation Team, reporting. We're currently carrying out an urgent mission: Annihilate the Invasive Anglers. I am in charge of acoustic recon.
Phonia: If you have any questions, there is a knight called Ematol by the lake. She's better at interpersonal communication and can provide you with detailed information.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I haven't asked anything yet...
Paimon: R—Right! We just wanted to greet you, and you just started babbling on...
Paimon: (Feels like she's a bit impatient...)
Phonia: Isn't that a good thing? We all work for the Knights of Favonius, and we're all on the clock right now, so we should not indulge ourselves in meaningless gossip but the exchange of useful information...
Phonia: Beside, I'm just a commmon "cog" while you are the heroes who have "saved Mondstadt" on your resumes. Someone like me is not worth much of your precious time.
Paimon: Hey, that's a bit offensive! We're not the type to... use people and treat them as tools!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Plus we're not that vain...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Nor that arrogant!
Phonia: Oh, I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. A "cog" is simply how I define myself.
Phonia: I am just an ordinary person with no talent. I have neither the capability nor the determination to take charge. The only role I'm fit to play on the stage of the machine that is the Knights of Favonius is that of a "cog."
Phonia: Or you can also call me a "pawn" or "gear"... I don't mind.
Paimon: Putting it like that is totally heartless!
Phonia: Heartless? I actually find it to my liking.
Phonia: There's no need for me to overthink anything or do things according to my own will. I simply do what my superior says. Get to work on time, and leave on time. Life is simple.
Phonia: There's a rumor going around that says: "In emergency situations the Honorary Knight has command authority on the front lines equivalent to a captain." Who knows, I may have the chance to be temporarily assigned to your unit in the future.
Phonia: Of course, every situation is different, and every task has a different priority. We are currently not in any such critical sitaution [sic], so I can just focus on the "Annihilate the Invasive Anglers" task that I've been assigned.
Phonia: As such, I must ask you two to keep some distance from me while I work. Both my equipment and I require a quiet working environment.
Phonia: You certainly wouldn't want some "cogs" to malfunction and affect the entire "machine," would you?
Icon Dialogue Talk White So you're shooing us away...
Icon Dialogue Talk White You're as cold as ice...
Paimon: Hmph! Paimon rarely sees a knight so willing to close the door and leave the world behind! Or maybe... they're a "heartless workaholic"!
Paimon: C'mon (‍Traveler‍)! Let's leave her here to do her work all alone!
Icon Dialogue Talk White You are...
Phonia: I just told you the most important information, but as it seems that's not enough for you. I'll supplement it with a few more words.
Phonia: I am Phonia, a member of the intelligence division of the investigation team. Though I have served for 6 years, I have only carried out 67 battlefield support ops and 31 direct action ops.
Phonia: My greatest martial accomplishment was defeating 1 Hilichurl Brute, 2 Hilichurl Shamans, and a few Hilichurl Shooters with Ematol using simple roadside explosives, mopping up a small area of the forest...
Phonia: As you can see, the gap in combat capability between me and you, Honorary Knight, is as wide as that between a boar and Stormterror. Perhaps you will simply forget about an unimportant, ordinary knight like me in a couple days.
Paimon: What's going on? Why are you suddenly... giving us a work report? So serious...
Icon Dialogue Talk White There's no need to be so tense...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Just think of us as new friends...
Paimon: Yeah! Even though (‍Traveler‍) is an Honorary Knight, we're not on duty now! Just relax!
Paimon: We're always meeting all kinds of people in the wilderness, and it's really great when we talk and talk and end up becoming friends!
Phonia: I see. You wish to dicuss [sic] personal matters. Let me think...
Phonia: I'm Phonia, 26 years old, single. I currently live in the third room on the third floor of the third building to the right of the city gates. I have a roommate who's also my tenant called Ematol, and the monthly rent is... I forget, it's not important.
Phonia: My hobby is to sleep. After work, I just go home and sleep. If it's too noisy, I'll have some wine to help me sleep. I don't remember what kind of wine I used to drink, but that's not important either. As long as it can get me drunk, it's good wine.
Phonia: Sometimes I stay at the secret camp near Dragonspine temporarily in accord with Captain Albedo's orders. I like it there because it's quiet, so I can have a good sleep without anyone disturbing me.
Icon Dialogue Talk White So your hobby is actually "quietness"?
Phonia: That's a valid point. A quiet environment and high-quality sleep are beneficial for my work. After all, my exceptional hearing is my most valuable skill.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Is your personal life that... mechanical, too?
Phonia: Hmm... You're the first one to point out my life is machine-like. I think that's great, living a routine life keeps me away from trouble.
Paimon: (Paimon feels like this knight... is incredible at killing conversations! Paimon doesn't know how to respond...)
Paimon: (And she keeps going on about her interests, which are still related to work... Paimon gonna give her a nickname... The "Silent Workaholic"!)
Phonia: Thanks, The Helper in White. That's a good nickname. If we ever need a callsign in the team, I'll use that.
Icon Dialogue Talk White !
Paimon: !
Phonia: Honorary Knight and The Helper in White, if you do not require further information from me... then please excuse the Silent Workaholic to resume her recon work.
Paimon: Y—You... You go ahead. We'll leave you to it!
Icon Dialogue Talk White "Acoustic recon"?
Paimon: It sounds impressive... but it looks like you're just standing by the lake, not moving a muscle? Paimon doesn't see any equipment around, either.
Phonia: Good topic, Honorary Knight and The Helper in White. You have noticed how compact Captain Albedo's handcrafted equipment is. Hostiles won't be any to spot it either in the future!
Phonia: I have already deployed the recon equipment's active unit underwater. It utilizes a special wave... Anyway, it surveys the nearby area with the help of Hydro.
Phonia: I'm wearing the unit's receiver in my ears, and it's about the size of regular earplugs. The detection signal of the active unit is transmitted directly to me.
Phonia: With these sound signals, I am able to analyze the locations of all Anglers and lock onto their nests by plotting their path and information on the map. Then, Ematol can come in and eradicate them in one go.
Icon Dialogue Talk White That amazing?
Paimon: It's almost like magic!
Phonia: Truly incredible alchemical creations appear no different from magic to the untrained eye. When other technologies reach a certain maturity, similar high-level creations will also be created.
Phonia: For example, I heard Fontaine manufactures large volumes of clockwork tech-based... humanoid machines. They can even take on the responsibility of defending the city. That also seems like magic to me.
Phonia: But I digress... Anyway, according to Captain Albedo, after a few discussions with Jean and the other captains, they reached a consensus...
Phonia: "The combat capabilities of the Knights of Favonius must be steadily improved with the minimum budget."
Icon Dialogue Talk White Improve your combat capabilities?
Phonia: Yeah. The intermittent reports from the expedition team have given us a clearer picture of our far away enemies. Some are just too powerful for our knights to handle effectively at their current skill level.
Phonia: The Knights of Favonius must continue to improve, striving for zero casualties and minimal resource consumption while eradicating potential invaders of Mondstadt and protecting everyone. For this purpose, there are no standards that are too high.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Minimum budget?
Phonia: Yes. We are currently at peace, so before the Knights of Favonius approve any military-related budget, we have to consider the impact on the civilians. Our citizens' needs come first, and we can use what's left for military improvements.
Phonia: Under such conditions, Mora must be spent only when necessary. Therefore, we need to verify which aspects to enhance that will bring about the highest improvement on overall combat capabilities.
Paimon: But how is that related to what you're doing now...? Like this "Annihilate the Invasive Anglers" operation?
Phonia: Good question, Helper in White. To put it simply, the conclusion from the meeting at that time was "information."
Phonia: The most cost efficient way to improve is by enhancing the knights' ability to acquire information, allowing them to gain the initiative on the battlefield and engage enemies from a more advantageous positions at the proper time.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I see! So you're testing out new equipment!
Phonia: I'm impressed, Honorary Knight. Communicating with you is indeed efficient and straightforward.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I still don't get what it has to do with you...
Phonia: Perhaps I talked too much about the nature of the issue, which might be too broad... Back to the topic at hand, I am testing new equipment.
Phonia: My job in the investigation team, a Signals Officer, and the equipment I'm using, are some of the earliest products of the Knights of Favonius' plan to improve our combat capabilities.
Phonia: The equipment shares similar design principles with the survey device Captain Albedo provided Mika with. This one has better battery life, increased accuracy against small targets, and is more convenient to use.
Phonia: As one of the first Signals Officers trained to use this equipment, I am responsible for being a military instructor, training a large cohort of Signals Officers for the frontline.
Phonia: Ideally, a few Signals Officers will be assigned to each platoon. They will use detection equipment to acquire information about enemies while they are still distant, allowing them to utilize the intelligence to deploy the most advantageous tactics.
Paimon: Now Paimon's lost... Why make something as simple as a fight so complicated!? When we see enemies, we prefer the hands-on approach and just go at them...
Icon Dialogue Talk White If we win, pure glee.
Icon Dialogue Talk White If we lost, we flee.
Phonia: You are heroes. We are cannon fodders. We're different.
Phonia: To avoid being cannon fodder torn to pieces by heroes like you, we regular knights have to actually use our brains. At least... we put some distance between us before you come charging over.
Phonia: Being easily trampled on isn't acceptable. We knights are tasked with the protection of Mondstadt. We can't afford to be reckless.
Paimon: Hey! How can you say something so demoralizing with a straight face!?
Paimon: Still, you've got a point. We never considered that... The opponents we've defeated might actually be warriors, who actually trained hard every day...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Warriors must have the dignity of a warrior!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Carry on with the testing, Signals Officer!
Phonia: Thank you for the encouragement, and for taking notice of a regular knight like me. I hope to one day fight by your side.
Icon Dialogue Talk White We'll leave you be. Goodbye!
Phonia: Take care! If you encounter the others, please remind them to keep a low profile. Thanks!

Dialogue Set #2

Available after finishing the last event challenge

Phonia: Honorary Knight, and The Helper in White. Phonia of the Investigation Team, reporting. We just completed carrying out an urgent mission called "Annihilate the Invasive Anglers," and are now returning to camp.
Icon Dialogue Talk White How's the situation?
Phonia: It went smoothly. The threat has been completely eliminated. You can rest easy.
Phonia: Do you have any further instructions?
Paimon: Th—That's so formal, like she's reporting to a senior officer. Should we also act the part?
Paimon: "*Ahem*... Good job, Signals Officer Phonia! Please be sure to share what you've learned from this experience with the other knights!"
Paimon: ...Like that?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Captain Paimon!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Nicely put, Paimon!
Phonia: ...
Phonia: Thank you for your approval, Helper in White. However, it may be too difficult for me to effectively teach my colleagues based on this experience.
Phonia: Although the operation of this detection equipment has already been greatly simplified, it still is beyond the capability of people who with weaker spatial cognition to operate.
Phonia: During operation, the jumbled signals from targets of similar sizes, as well as environmental noise and interference, can all easily overwhelm the user in a torrent of information.
Phonia: Forget about training the rest of the platoon, even just training the other Signals Officers to be familiar with its operations would be a gargantuan task requiring significant time...
Phonia: If it is to become standard equipment, it requires further improvements to make it more accessible, even at the cost of performance.
Paimon: What? Cognition? Standard equipment... Accessibility...
Paimon: Y—You lost Paimon again!
Phonia: The details don't matter. Anyway, I am not complaining to you two but objectively analyzing the current situation.
Phonia: All I can say is, Captain Albedo's minimum requirement of meeting "1/3 of Mika's spatial cognition and anti-interference capabilities" is still too much to ask.
Phonia: In any case, I will continue to help improve this piece of equipment until it is suitable for becoming standardized equipment or proven to be unsuitable.
Phonia: Once a relatively mature prototype is produced... Would you two like to try it?
Phonia: With it, you can confirm distant targets without visual contact. If you have any ways to... attack enemies at range, you can launch a preemptive attack and gain a tactical advantage.
Paimon: Th—That incredible?
Icon Dialogue Talk White We could detect targets far away?
Icon Dialogue Talk White But it can only be used underwater... That seems a bit limiting...
Phonia: No worries. By changing the Alchemy Potion used in the core, this equipment can detect the energy fluctuations of different elements.
Phonia: For example, when using an Anemo Potion to detect targets, it can accurately detect targets like Hilichurl Brutes within a range three times greater than the [sic] a regular bow's attack range within Mondstadt.
Phonia: In situations like that, top archers like Amber the Outrider would be able to conduct "non-line-of-sight shooting" in groups and continuously adjust their firing angle based on observation reports from allies with higher vantage points.
Phonia: The enemies might never see the attack coming, and would already been turned into Wolfhooks by their arrows before they figured out what was happening.
Paimon: When you put it that way, it sounds amazing...
Paimon: (‍Traveler‍) doesn't usually use a bow. (‍He‍/She‍) just charges straight into enemies and beats them up... or sometimes just gets bombarded by those Ruin Guards from a distance.
Paimon: Though it's kind of maddening, Paimon has to admit that sometimes... being able to attack at range really does have a lot of advantages!
Paimon: From just how far away could Amber hit a target if she was using such miraculous equipment? Even Paimon's really looking forward to finding out!
Icon Dialogue Talk White "Annihilate the Invasive Anglers"?
Phonia: You may already have heard of this mission and heard my briefing, but were likely too busy to have paid it much attention...
Phonia: So allow me to briefly introduce it once more—
Phonia: A certain merchant "released" some Anglers, native to Sumeru, into Cider Lake, which then began to multiply rapidly.
Phonia: To prevent these invasive creatures from impacting the water quality of Cider Lake and affecting Mondstadt's wine industry, the Knights of Favonius dispatched a unit with strong recon capabilities to undertake a limited operation.
Phonia: I, Signals Officer Phonia of the Investigative Team, and my colleague Weapons Specialist Ematol, received orders to use limited force to precisely eliminate the invasive species with minimal collateral damage.
Phonia: Currently, Ematol and I have deployed 457 bombs and cleared out 203 nests and all the invasive Anglers, successfully eliminating the negative effects resulting from the introduction of the invasive species.
Phonia: According to the calculations of other colleagues, it will take about a week for the residual explosive remnants in the water to fall to safe levels.
Paimon: S—Such precise numbers!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Incredible!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Good job!
Phonia: Thank you for your approval.
Phonia: This operation has also allowed me to verify a large quantity of information necessary to the development of the Signals Officer corps. As a cog in the Knights of Favonius' grand machine, I have reaped significant benefits.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Goodbye!
Phonia: Goodbye to both of you.
Phonia: If there's a chance, I hope I can show you the results of the improved equipment in the near future.

Mutual Security Enhancing Simulation

Dialogue Set #1

Available before acquiring the quest Scenarios for Study

Phonia: We meet again, Honorary Knight. When Su Ding mentioned he planned on inviting a reliable outside expert to join us, I immediately thought of you.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Sorry, I don't remember you very well...
Phonia: That's fine, after all, I'm just a cog in the machine. Officers don't necessarily have to remember the name of everyone serving under them, just their positions and duties. That's enough to be able to effectively give orders.
Phonia: I'm Phonia, formerly a Signals Officer of the Investigative Team. I'm responsible for testing alchemical instruments developed by Captain Albedo and exploring the uses of remote reconnaissance technology.
Phonia: However, in light of how the Knights of Favonius have updated their tactics and the staffing structure now that some units from the expeditionary force have returned, Captain Albedo applied to have me assigned to the reorganized 7th Company.
Phonia: The 7th Company is temporarily designated as a "Combined Arms Company," which integrates knights with a range of capabilities into a single combat unit, with a balance of ranged and melee firepower. Such a unit is also very reliant on reconnaissance.
Phonia: When the time comes, the expeditionary force's No. 2 — the venerable Commander Frederica Gunnhildr might become our Company's Captain.
Phonia: After all, Commander Frederica has served for longer than many Knights have been alive, and her experience in battle is unmatched. It wouldn't be too much to say she is perfectly suited for leadership.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Gunnhildr? That sounds familiar...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Isn't that also Jean's last name...?
Phonia: Correct! Commander Frederica is the Acting Grand Master's mother, and is famous throughout Mondstadt.
Phonia: She's been on active duty on the front lines for decades on end, never tiring or slowing. When the youths of Mondstadt talk of their dreams of being a hero, the name "Frederica" is never far from their lips.
Phonia: And I was one of them! When I joined the Knights of Favonius, it was because of my admiration for Commander Frederica...
Phonia: Of course, I later realized that I was only talented enough to be just one more cog in the machine. As for the heroic protagonists of the storybooks that can take on a hundred foes all alone... that's another story.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Jean's mother...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Might become a Captain?
Phonia: That's only my speculation as a Signals Officer. As I see it, the 7th Company will likely be one of the most formidable units, and so Commander Frederica would be the most suitable candidate for Captain.
Phonia: Though Commander Frederica's position in the Knights of Favonius long surpassed any ordinary Captain, she doesn't seem to like pushing paperwork around and insists on staying on the front lines, toe-to-toe with foes.
Phonia: In principle, the Knights of Favonius value ability and experience equally, so after she returns, perhaps we'll see the Acting Grand Master giving orders to Commander Frederica...
Phonia: The two of them should have absolutely seamless synergy.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I feel like I've seen you before...
Phonia: That's right! We've met once before, while I was executing the "Annihilate the Invasive Anglers" operation.
Phonia: Since then, I've been carrying out experiments to advance alchemical detection equipment as planned, and have worked with the Reconnaissance Company and Outriders on numerous occasions.
Phonia: Over time, I slowly became a slightly more important cog in the Knights of Favonius's intelligence machine, and that's why I was chosen to participate in this event.
Phonia: Who knows, maybe the next time you return to the Knights to take on a commission, the intel I gather will be useful to you!
Icon Dialogue Talk White How do you think the Wargame is going?
Phonia: The thing that strikes me most is how each nation has a vastly different approach to fighting.
Phonia: Due to the different levels of focus on the size of their forces and training, the Millelith are concerned more with formations and the disposition of their troops.
Phonia: When clearing out hordes of monsters, they're like a steel-flanked juggernaut. They can just directly roll over an entire camp of the beasties, crushing everything in their path. Offense and defense all in one, completely unstoppable.
Phonia: When operating on terrain ill-suited to deploying a wide front line, they'll split up, reassembling into multiple smaller formations of the appropriate dimensions such that their flexibility to pursue their objectives isn't compromised.
Phonia: Even if an opponent studies their tactics and formations, and their intelligence is accurate, it would still be difficult to find a weakness to exploit.
Phonia: Fortunately, this style requires a very high degree of awareness and discipline from every soldier. In all of Teyvat, maybe only Liyue's Millelith can do that...
Icon Dialogue Talk White I won't keep you any longer.
Phonia: Then we'll talk more next time, Honorary Knight.

Dialogue Set #2

Available after acquiring the quest Scenarios for Study

Phonia: Looks like you're pretty much done, Honorary Knight. Our work here is almost finished too, so we'll be heading back to Mondstadt soon.
Icon Dialogue Talk White How did the collaboration go?
Phonia: Not bad at all. It's exposed a flaw in our current strategy — namely, that the long-range capabilities of our mobile forces seem to be somewhat lacking.
Phonia: During the Wargames, we had multiple skirmishes with the clockwork meka of Fontaine. Though we did have units with heavy bows, they had great difficulty penetrating the thick armor of our opponents, so we had to get in close as much as possible.
Phonia: But as a result, we lost the intel advantage that we'd expected our alchemical recon equipment to give us.
Phonia: Seems like we're going to need the Outrider's input on this one.
Phonia: Or... Perhaps Ematol could make us some miniature explosives, which we could... attach to our arrowheads?
Phonia: Yes... That sounds like it might just work.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Safe trip back!
Phonia: See you in Mondstadt, Honorary Knight.

Dodoco's Boom-Bastic Escapades

Phonia: Greetings Honorary Knight and the Helper in White. I'm not technically on duty right now, but I can't go home yet, thanks to this extracurricular project that Ematol has given me.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Extracurricular Project?
Phonia: Basically, she's worried her record of your experience playing "Dodoco's Boom-Bastic Escapades" might not suffice, so she wanted me to take some extra recordings.
Paimon: Wow, you two really are close, aren't you?
Phonia: The way I see it, this is just a way of banking some credit so Ematol might actually feel guilty the next time she plays a prank on me.
Paimon: Uhh, Paimon's not sure she actually will, but at least it adds another layer to your relationship!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Come on Phonia, lighten up!
Phonia: Oh, you think I'm taking it too seriously? People often say that my responses are a bit too by-the-book. Boring, even...
Phonia: But I'm just trying to cut down on unnecessary communication so I can get some peace and quiet.
Paimon: Umm... (‍Traveler‍), we should probably go now...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Anyway, keep up the good work!
Phonia: Thank you, and have fun. Once we're done with all the recording, it'll finally be time for this cog in the machine to get some rest...

Exercise Surging Storm

Dialogue Set #1

Available before accumulating 4000 Wargame Medals, if the player did not participate in Dodoco's Bomb-Tastic Adventure and Mutual Security Enhancing Simulation[verification needed]

Phonia: Let the wind lead, Honorary Knight. As you can see, the Knights are currently piloting Wargaming simulations. If you can spare the time, we hope you can assist us in completing the testing.
Icon Dialogue Talk White And you are...
Phonia: I'm Phonia, intelligence officer of the reorganized 7th Company, and also one of the people who proposed this Wargame.
Phonia: Currently, my main tasks are the development and maintenance of alchemical recon equipment, collecting intel, and analyzing enemies. If you need help, just contact my acting superior.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Sounds like reporting work...
Phonia: Well, we all work for the Knights of Favonius, and we're all on the clock right now, so rather than indulging ourselves in exchanges of meaningless information, our time would be best used discussing useful intel..
Phonia: I am but an ordinary cog in the machine that is the Knights of Favonius. Aside from my duties, any information about me is of significance to you.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Well, "cog" is a rather peculiar way to describe yourself.
Phonia: It is only the truth. I'm just an ordinary person without any particular talent or ambition. I'm just here to do what I can.
Phonia: And that's fine by me. I worry about nothing outside of my duties, and I live an ordinary life. A good way to avoid troubles, really.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Err, could you tell me a bit about yourself anyway?
Phonia: I've told you all that's worth hearing. Or would you like to hear something more personal? Let me think...
Phonia: I'm Phonia, 26 years old, single. I currently live in the third room on the third floor of the third building to the right of the city gates. I have a roommate called Ematol, who also happens to be my tenant, and the monthly rent is... I forget, it's not important.
Phonia: My hobby is sleeping. After work, I just go home and sleep. If it's too noisy, I'll have some wine to help me sleep. I don't remember what kind of wine I used to drink, but that's not important either. As long as it can get me drunk, it's good wine.
Phonia: As for where I was born, how I spent my childhood, what my parents did before I was born, and all that, I suspect such things are far less significant.
Phonia: If you don't need any more information from me, please allow me to continue my analysis work. Of course, if you do have any questions about the Wargame, please feel free to consult me at any time.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Your acting superior?
Phonia: Yes. 7th Company was only reorganized recently, so we haven't yet settled on our captaincy.
Phonia: The 7th Company is temporarily designated as a "Combined Arms Company," which integrates knights with a range of capabilities into a single combat unit, with a balance of ranged and melee firepower. Such a unit is also very reliant on reconnaissance.
Phonia: In time, the expeditionary force's No. 2 — the venerable Commander Frederica Gunnhildr — might become our Company's Captain.
Phonia: After all, Commander Frederica has served for longer than many Knights have been alive, and her experience in battle is unmatched. It wouldn't be too much to say she is perfectly suited for leadership.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Wait. That Gunnhildr?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Isn't that also Jean's last name...?
Phonia: Correct! Commander Frederica is the Acting Grand Master's mother, and is renowned throughout Mondstadt.
Phonia: She's been on active duty on the front lines for decades now, never tiring or slowing.
Icon Dialogue Talk White So Jean's mother... will be your captain?
Phonia: That's only my speculation as an intelligence officer. As I see it, the 7th Company will likely be one of the most formidable units, and so Commander Frederica would be the most suitable candidate for Captain.
Phonia: Though Commander Frederica's position in the Knights of Favonius has long surpassed any ordinary Captain, she's never been one for pushing pencils. She's always insisted on staying on the front lines, toe-to-toe with foes.
Phonia: In principle, the Knights of Favonius value ability and experience equally, so after she returns, perhaps we'll see the Acting Grand Master giving orders to Commander Frederica...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Wargame?
Phonia: Yes. As I'm sure you've seen, the scourge of monsters wandering the wilds remains one of the issues that all nations in Teyvat must deal with.
Phonia: In short, I've drawn inspiration from the Millelith General Staff's previous methods, collating all manner of reports in order to construct this Wargame.
Phonia: By simulating battles between monsters, we can learn the best strategies to defeat them while in a non-combat environment. If you're interested, please give it a try yourself.
Icon Dialogue Talk White It looks like... a game of chess?
Phonia: You're certainly right about that. There are indeed similarities between the conduct of Wargames and chess, so the comparison is quite apt.
Phonia: "Playing chess" is enough to help conduct valuable tactical analysis, and that's also where the charm of Wargames lie. You can just think of it as a regular "chess game."
Phonia: In any case, I've applied for permission from the Acting Grand Master. Everyone is free to take part in these simulations, and all participants will be entitled to a thank-you gift.
Phonia: So if you have the time, Honorary Knight, I hope that you, too, will take part in our simulations. After all, I doubt that there are many in Mondstadt who know more about monsters than you do.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I see. I'll give it a go when I have time, then.
Phonia: My thanks. We've already prepared the board, so we can begin at any time. I look forward to witnessing a commanding performance from you, Honorary Knight.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Everyone can participate?
Phonia: The battlefield brims with uncertainty. No matter how thorough the investigation, the fog of war, which no wind can disperse, will still shroud about three-quarters of it.
Phonia: As such, the more participants we get, the more likely we can simulate even the most unpredictable of monster behavior patterns.
Phonia: All strategy and theory can only be based on real tactical results. No matter what the battle situation, only the success of our strategies can determine victory or defeat.
Phonia: Such simulations help to expose our weaknesses, such that we Knights can improve them in real future combat scenarios.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Nice! Clear as mud, though!
Phonia: It's alright. Analyzing the simulation results is an intelligence officer's duty, Honorary Knight. You, as the commander, do not have to fret over these details. Just focus on doing battle.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Got it. So I'll play the chess, and you'll do the rest?
Phonia: Precisely. Analyzing the simulation results is an intelligence officer's duty, Honorary Knight. You, as the commander, do not have to fret over these details — simply command.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Well, I'll leave you to it then. See you.
Phonia: Alright. You stay safe as well.

Dialogue Set #2

Available before accumulating 4000 Wargame Medals, if the player participated in Dodoco's Bomb-Tastic Adventure and Mutual Security Enhancing Simulation[verification needed]

Phonia: An honor to see you again, Honorary Knight. As you can see, the Knights are currently piloting Wargaming simulations. If you can spare the time, we hope you can assist us in completing the testing.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I remember you...
Phonia: Phonia's the name. Former Investigative Team Signals Officer, responsible for testing alchemical recon instruments developed by Captain Albedo. Presently, I'm the 7th Company's Intelligence Officer, and also the one who proposed this Wargame.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Ah, I remember now! You were the one by Cider Lake...
Phonia: Yes. My thanks for your assistance in the "Annihilate the Invasive Anglers" operation, as well as your participation in Su Ding's Wargame of Five Armies, Honorary Knight.
Phonia: Still, I'm just an ordinary "cog" in the Knights of Favonius "machine," so I'm honored that you remember me at all.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'm sorry, but I really don't remember you...
Phonia: It's alright. I'm just an ordinary "cog" in the Knights of Favonius "machine." There's no need to spend too much time remembering my name.
Phonia: In any case, you have my thanks for your assistance in the "Annihilate the Invasive Anglers" operation, as well as your participation in Su Ding's Wargame of Five Armies, Honorary Knight.
Icon Dialogue Talk White So, about this Wargame...
Phonia: Following that last joint Wargame, I referenced the methods of the Millelith General Staff to make monster chess pieces, which will be used to simulate fights between them. This will assist us in discovering the best ways of dealing with said monsters.
Phonia: It's just that I've expanded the variety of pieces based on intel received from our expedition force, such that we can simulate different combat environments.
Phonia: If we get the chance to work together again, the Knights of Favonius will share this intel with our neighboring nations, in the interest of enhancing our common security.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I see some rare creatures indeed...
Phonia: And that is thanks to the expedition force. I doubt my imagination would have sufficed without the intel they brought back.
Phonia: Gathering intel has always been one of the most important components of our tactics, and it is also one of the most effective ways to avoid unnecessary casualties.
Phonia: It was five hundred years ago that Grand Master Arundolyn said thusly...
Phonia: Ah, sorry. I got off-topic. In any case, these game pieces were created based on the intel we gathered, and they should be enough to simulate the monsters' true abilities.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I didn't expect you to be interested in Wargames...
Phonia: ...Ahem. I fear I must correct you, Honorary Knight. This is not merely a "Wargame," but tactical training, which I must — with the utmost enthusiasm — recommend to my fellow Knights.
Phonia: This... This is a serious measure taken to achieve a serious goal, not a mere "interest." A "cog" like myself does not have any "interests"...
Phonia: In any case, I've applied for permission from the Acting Grand Master. Everyone is free to take part in these simulations, and all participants will be entitled to a thank-you gift.
Phonia: So if you have the time, Honorary Knight, I personally hope that you, too, will take part in our simulations. After all, I doubt that there are many in Mondstadt who know more about monsters than you do.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I see. I'll give it a go when I have time, then.
Phonia: My thanks. We've already prepared the board, so we can begin at any time. Just as before, I look forward to learning from your commanding performance, Honorary Knight.
Icon Dialogue Talk White You say that everyone can participate... Could you elaborate a bit?
Phonia: The battlefield brims with uncertainty. No matter how thorough the investigation, the fog of war, which no wind can disperse, will still shroud about three-quarters of it.
Phonia: As such, the more participants we get, the more likely we can simulate even the most unpredictable of monster behavior patterns.
Phonia: All strategy and theory can only be based on real tactical results. No matter what the battle situation, only the success of our strategies can determine victory or defeat.
Phonia: Such simulations help to expose our weaknesses, such that we Knights can improve them in real future combat scenarios.
Icon Dialogue Talk White I don't get it... But I just need to play, right?
Phonia: Precisely. Analyzing the simulation results is an intelligence officer's duty, Honorary Knight. You, as the commander, do not have to fret over these details — simply command.
Phonia: During the previous joint Wargame, Turenna of Fontaine's Special Security and Surveillance Patrol mentioned a saying — "Fontaine expects that everyone will do their duty"...
Phonia: It seems to have been a famous quote from a naval commander of theirs from long ago — a most outstanding figure indeed. I am in full agreement with this view, and it applies to us Knights too, in a sense.
Phonia: From commander to soldier, so long as every "cog" in the "machine" fulfills its duty, operating in perfect accordance with orders given, we should be sufficient to ensure Mondstadt's security.
Phonia: *sigh* If only Ematol could understand this simple principle, she wouldn't give me a headache from making noise all day long...
Phonia: Well, at any rate, we've already prepared the board, so we can begin at any time. Just as before, I look forward to learning some techniques from you, Honorary Knight.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Speaking of which, you did mention a weakness previously...
Phonia: That's right — you have an excellent memory, Honorary Knight. Our previous joint Wargame exposed our lack of strong ranged combat capabilities.
Phonia: It is difficult for our projectiles to hit highly-armored targets at a distance, but if they get close, we lose the positional advantages granted by our alchemical recon equipment.
Phonia: To solve this, I have asked the Acting Grand Master to put Ematol into the 7th Company to develop miniature explosive arrowheads or similar substitutes.
Phonia: Frankly speaking, I don't have any clue how far she's gotten, but as long as she doesn't blow my house up, I couldn't care less if she blew herself sky-high. Wouldn't be the first time she's done that.
Phonia: In terms of results, at least she's not over at Cider Lake tinkering with her bombs day-in and day-out, so that's a mental health positive for me... Even though she's still terribly noisy.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Well, I'll leave you to it then. See you.
Phonia: Don't worry, you weren't disturbing me either way. If there is anything I can help with, or if there's any intel you need me to gather, you need only ask, Honorary Knight.

Dialogue Set #3

Available after accumulating 4000 Wargame Medals, if the player did not participate in Dodoco's Bomb-Tastic Adventure and Mutual Security Enhancing Simulation[verification needed]

Phonia: Greetings, Honorary Knight. The game board has been reset. You may begin your simulations at any time.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Could you tell me who you were, one more time...?
Phonia: Phonia. Presently the 7th Company's intelligence officer, and also the one who proposed this Wargame.
Phonia: But ultimately, I am just a "cog" in the "machine" that is the Knights of Favonius. You don't have to worry too much about my affairs, Honorary Knight.
Icon Dialogue Talk White How's the wargaming gone?
Phonia: Rather well. Thanks to you, we've already come up with standard combat procedures for most common monsters.
Phonia: If you're interested, you'll be able to find these procedures in our library once we're done putting them together.
Phonia: But with your immense strength, I'm not entirely sure you would need these strategies, designed as they are for ordinary knights. Perhaps you might even "critique," rather than "check," them.
Phonia: In any case, until our analytical assignment ends, please feel free to perform simulations as you please, as many times as you please.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Well, I'll leave you to it then. See you.
Phonia: Alright, you stay safe as well.

Dialogue Set #4

Available after accumulating 4000 Wargame Medals, if the player participated in Dodoco's Bomb-Tastic Adventure and Mutual Security Enhancing Simulation[verification needed]

Phonia: Greetings, Honorary Knight. The game board has been reset. You may begin your simulations at any time.
Icon Dialogue Talk White How's the wargaming gone?

Phonia: In any case, until our analytical assignment ends, please feel free to perform simulations as you please, as many times as you please.
Icon Dialogue Talk White About the weakness you mentioned before...
Phonia: Hmm. You speak of the contradiction between the "range advantage granted by alchemical recon gear" and "the significant reduction in current weapon effectiveness at long ranges."
Phonia: I discussed this issue with our Outrider after the previous joint Wargames. Our final conclusion was that our most efficient way forward is to improve the weapons themselves.
Phonia: Longer range, faster rates of fire, greater payload strength. As to how we can achieve that, I'm not so sure — that's Ematol's area of expertise.
Phonia: Sure, she's dumb and noisy, her head has nothing in it besides explosives, she often falls behind on rent, and she can't even cook, but when it comes to weapons development, she knows her duty as a "cog."
Phonia: So I choose to trust her judgment. No matter what she gets up to, I will... provide support, within reason.
Phonia: That said, I must confess that this idea of "digging a cone-shaped cavity inside bombs to increase their explosive power" sounds like a load of hogwash...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Well, I'll leave you to it then. See you.
Phonia: Don't worry, you weren't disturbing me either way. If there is anything I can help with, or if there's any intel you need me to gather, you need only ask, Honorary Knight.

Dodoco's Blow-Up-Erative Bomb-Nanza

Ematol: Feeling better, Phonia?
Phonia: My head doesn't hurt as much... I suppose eating sweets does help...
Phonia: Ematol... Thank you.
Ematol: What are you thanking me for!? No need to be so formal!
Ematol: You need to get better and get back to work. Everyone's waiting for you!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Afternoon tea? Do you have space for one more?
Ematol: Honorary Knight!
Phonia: (‍Sir‍/Lady‍) (‍Traveler‍)...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Why do you look upset?
Phonia: ...It's been a while, but seeing you still makes me feel guilty.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Oh, you mean that incident from before...
Ematol: Umm... Honorary Knight, are you sure you want to talk about that...?
Ematol: Just thinking about the Durin incident still sends shivers down my spine... so...
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'm sure Phonia's ready to talk.
Phonia: ...That's right. I can't run from this.
Phonia: Please allow me to report the situation to you, (‍Sir‍/Lady‍) Honorary Knight.
Phonia: During the incident, the Acting Grand Master exposed the fact that Durin had influenced my mind, and ordered the knights to escort me back to headquarters immediately...
Phonia: In my confinement cell, I heard the sound of fireworks coming from outside, followed by a strange burst of... something.
Phonia: It was like... Waking up from an eerie dream, and having your mind suddenly cleared.
Phonia: Only then did I slowly realize the terrible things I'd done...
Phonia: Afterwards, Captain Albedo and Miss Sucrose made me some soothing potions, and I've since gradually recovered from all the negative aftereffects of Durin's influence.
Phonia: Captain Albedo treated the other affected knights with the same method, and soon, we returned to normal.
Phonia: After confirming that I was alright, the Acting Grand Master gave me an extended vacation. She probably hoped I'd recover during this time.
Phonia: But even after my vacation ended, I've still been struggling with stress. So... I won't be able to return to my post for the time being.
Ematol: Nobody blames you for this, Phonia. After all, who could've predicted that Durin would... you know...
Icon Dialogue Talk White You were a victim in all that.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Being extra vigilant next time couldn't hurt.
Ematol: *sigh*... Back then, I didn't even realize something was wrong.
Ematol: I was thinking about how Phonia got transferred to the 7th Company and was part of a major operation... and whether we should hold a banquet to celebrate.
Ematol: I didn't expect things to turn out like this...
Phonia: Looking back now, Durin's influence likely came into play during the seventh round of extreme-cold environment gear testing.
Phonia: During the test, I came too close to its still-dangerous remains, and when I returned, I felt sick and weak... I was on the verge of fainting while writing my report.
Phonia: Captain Albedo must have realized from reading my substandard report that I'd been affected.
Phonia: That's why he transferred me to the 7th Company to take part in the simulation once my condition had stabilized somewhat.
Phonia: Perhaps it was because I was in that important role that Durin marked me as a key informant then.
Icon Dialogue Talk White So wouldn't the results of the simulation have been...
Icon Dialogue Talk White So Durin adopted the all-new strategies from that simulation...
Phonia: Well, I did give it my all, so yes, I did come up with some new tactics.
Phonia: But please don't worry, my tactical knowledge hasn't compromised Mondstadt's defenses in any way.
Phonia: After looking back on things more carefully, I realized that Captain Albedo and the Acting Grand Master, through their own clever methods, had been controlling the information that Durin was able to glean from me...
Phonia: They were thus able to control Durin's plan of attack in reverse, to a certain extent.
Ematol: Controlling Durin in reverse... Sounds like they were working real magic...
Phonia: Every combat strategy report I submitted was reviewed jointly by the Acting Grand Master and trusted Captains to determine whether they would be adopted.
Phonia: Unaware that his informant had been compromised, Durin believed the adopted strategy would shape the Knights' latest defensive tactics.
Phonia: But in reality, this strategy was nothing more than bait.
Ematol: Ooh, so that's how it was!
Ematol: No wonder so many of our colleagues mentioned training in "new tactics" — only for us to use a completely different plan during our defensive battle...
Icon Dialogue Talk White So you took advantage of the information being leaked...
Icon Dialogue Talk White ...To lure the enemy into doing something predictable.
Phonia: That's right. During the battle, the main attacking force of monsters behaved just as the Knights foresaw — they moved to counter the strategy they thought we would use.
Phonia: But in the end, that allowed the Knights to take the initiative, minimizing the damage to our city and citizens.
Phonia: Still, I can't afford to be complacent. Even intentionally leaked intel might trigger unexpected reactions from the monsters around Mondstadt.
Phonia: Since recovering, I've run 830 simulations based on Durin's intel and had Ematol deliver the analyses to Captain Albedo...
Ematol: But he assured me that the dust had settled, and there was nothing we needed to worry about.
Ematol: So, Phonia! Your top priority right now is to rest up, get better, and come back to us as soon as possible!
Icon Dialogue Talk White That's right. There's nothing to worry about now.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Albedo took care of everything.
Phonia: I see...
Phonia: Then I'll write a detailed report based on my own experience to serve as a warning to those who come after us.
Phonia: I hope the other knights will take what happened to me to heart and take care out in the wild... Last thing we want is more of us falling under the control of strange forces...
Phonia: Maybe we can develop this into some sort of specialized discipline? Like... "Psychic Disruption and Prevention"?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Let's talk about something more relaxing, then.
Ematol: Mhm! When you eat desserts, the conversation should be just as sweet!
Ematol: Phonia and I made a new friend recently. She's a very passionate adventurer!
Ematol: She plans to reopen her shelter for stray animals. Maybe you'll be able to visit her soon.
Ematol: If you don't mind, shall we visit her together, Honorary Knight?
Ematol: I'm curious to see what kind of cats you'd be fond of!
Ematol: Also — big news! I've revamped Dodoco's Boom-Bastic Escapades into a cooperative adventure game: Dodoco's Blow-Up-Erative Bomb-Nanza!
Ematol: When I played it with my new friend, we had loads of fun! I want to promote the game, so I've asked her to help with that.
Ematol: The game table is in the garden near the Knights of Favonius headquarters. Feel free to check it out whenever you're free!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Sounds great!
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'll definitely give it a try!
Ematol: Phonia, once you're feeling better, let's invite your partner from the 7th Company. We can try out the game together!
Ematol: I remember Captain Albedo saying that once the basic framework of their reconnaissance system is in place, your duties will be fully transferred to her — and you'll be transferred back here...
Ematol: It's going to be hard work for her, so let's make up for it in advance by having fun!
Phonia: Alright. I think she has a few months until her transfer to Dornman Port, so she'll probably have some free time.
Phonia: And it's probably time for me to do something to lift my mood, anyways.
Icon Dialogue Talk White (Best not to bother them further...)

Homeward, He Who Caught the Wind

Available after completing Homeward, He Who Caught the Wind (Quest)

Ematol: I haven't let my hair down like this in a long time... It's so fun!
Phonia: Yeah, it's hard to find time to rest these days. My mind and body are completely relaxed...
Ematol: What are you gonna do with your house if we get stationed in Dornman Port? Are you gonna leave it empty?
Phonia: I'm planning to rent it out. I've already asked someone to help me look for tenants. That way, we should be able to find somewhere a bit bigger to stay in Dornman Port.
Phonia: And then when Leonore and the others come to stay, we won't have to squeeze in like sardines.
Ematol: Great! And Dustball will have more space to run around in, too!
