Dialogue

UI Quest Quest Description

You discover a deep pit near the Frostmoon Enclave...
(Approach the pit)
Paimon: Whoa, (‍Traveler‍), look! There's a huge hole over there!
(Enter the pit)
Paimon: Wow, it's so deep! Looks like there's an even bigger space down below!
???: ...Hey! You two, are you trying to get yourselves killed?
???: Don't just stand there! Get over here and keep your voice down!
Paimon: Waaah! You scared Paimon! She didn't expect to find anyone else in a place like this... And w—why are you hiding?
???: ...Shh! I told you to keep quiet, buddy!
???: But judging by your chubby looks... Hah, you wouldn't happen to be the daughter of some Northland fae lord, would you?
Paimon: Hey, what do you mean by "chubby looks"!? Paimon's not chubby at all! And Paimon's not fae either!
Icon Dialogue Talk White We're adventurers.
Paimon: That's right. (‍He‍/She‍)'s (‍Traveler‍), and Paimon's Paimon, (‍his‍/her‍) guide! We saw this deep pit and came here to investigate!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Miss Paimonovna. At this juncture, I advise that we feign—
Paimon: Feign what? And who is Miss Paimonovna anyway?
Paimon: In any case, (‍he‍/she‍) is (‍Traveler‍), and Paimon's (‍his‍/her‍) guide! We're adventurers who've come to investigate this deep pit!
???: Yes, yes, of course. You're adventurers, definitely not nobility. We all need to wear some masks, am I right?
Maite: But since you've all introduced yourselves, I should, for my part, do as decorum dictates. Maite Veliu, heir to the legendary thief Reed Miller. Don't worry, that's my real name.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Whoa! A thief!
Maite: I—I'm a master thief, not some petty crook, (‍brother‍/sister‍)! Don't treat me like some cheap con artist! And I won't steal anything from you either!
Maite: *cough* Anyway... You're really a terrible liar, buddy.
Icon Dialogue Talk White The legendary thief Reed Miller?
Maite: It's alright if you're unfamiliar. Rest assured, I'm a master thief, not some small-time crook. Your belongings are safe where they sit in your pockets.
Maite: However... You're a terrible liar, buddy.
Maite: Tell me, what kind of guide leads people straight into a deep pit?
Paimon: W—We did that because we're adventurers!
Maite: Alright, alright. If I'm not mistaken, you're here for the Crab Tsar's treasure too, aren't you?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Treasure?
Maite: Oh? Trying to get me to spill the tea, huh? Heh heh, don't underestimate me, (‍brother‍/sister‍). I know how we fish for info.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Hmph, perceptive little brats like you...
Paimon: You got into character so quickly! No, wait, don't say weird things like that all of a sudden! You sound like some annoying two-bit villain!
Paimon: Um, so what's this treasure about again?
Icon Dialogue Talk White I see, the Crabby Booty...
Paimon: ?
Maite: Huh? What kind of nickname is that... Ahem. That's right! You know your stuff, (‍brother‍/sister‍). My target is the Crab... Crabby Booty.
Maite: It's the most precious treasure hidden in the Crab Tsar's palace below... the stone thatTwardowska's Stone can manipulate human desires. This is what I seek.
Paimon: (Oh, it just hit Paimon after hearing all this talk about thieves and some Crab Tsar — this must be some kind of children's adventure game, right?)
Paimon: So... uh, how did you know that there's treasure here?
Maite: Hah, that's a master thief's secret, buddy. What's it gonna be? Interested in a team-up?
Maite: I've already scouted out the palace routes and have a good idea where the treasure is. But I'm a master thief, not a mercenary. I can't defeat that despicable Crab Tsar all by myself.
Maite: If I could, I wouldn't be hiding here, waiting for it to lower its guard.
Paimon: Huh? If you're a master thief, why do you have to confront the palace owner head-on? Wouldn't that make you a robber instead?
Maite: That shows you're an amateur, buddy. You can't get to the treasure without defeating the palace owner. Hidim— *cough* I mean, that's just how things work in the business.
Maite: Once we get that stone and sell it for a good price, we'll split it fifty-fifty, and I'll even hook you up with my informant. Interested?
Icon Dialogue Talk White I still don't think stealing is right...
Paimon: (Um, even though she's being super cryptic about it, we're basically just looking for a stone in this cave, right?)
Paimon: (It might be dangerous to leave her alone down there. Best we follow her and keep an eye on her...)
Icon Dialogue Talk White Alright, let's go and take a look.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Your wish is my command, Miss Paimonovna.
Paimon: What in the... Don't join her in talking nonsense, (‍Traveler‍)!
Icon Dialogue Talk White Leave it to me. I'm a world-famous thief after all.
Paimon: As long as you add "world-famous" in front, then it doesn't matter what comes after, huh? Is that what you're thinking? No, we're just helpful adventurers, not thieves—
Paimon: (Hmm? Wait... Come to think of it, our first major deed in Mondstadt was stealing the Holy Lyre der Himmel...)
Maite: Ha! A world-famous thief... What are you going to say next? That you're a fugitive wanted in multiple nations?
Maite: Alright, alright, enough joking around. Even Reed Miller has never been wanted by every nation at once. Still, you're quite an interesting person, buddy.
Maite: Right, let's get to it then. Stay close and don't get lost.
(Examine the markings, optional)
(If The Tale of the Gate Stone or Gift of the Mirage were not completed)‍[verification needed]
Paimon: Huh? There are some strange marks on the ground...
(If The Tale of the Gate Stone or Gift of the Mirage were completed)‍[verification needed]
Paimon: Huh? These marks on the ground look familiar...
Maite: Shhh... Keep your voice down. If I'm right, those tracks were left by the Crab Tsar.
Maite: That thing's scarily strong, and lately... well, nevermind. Just forget I said anything.
(Approach the marked location)
Maite: Oh no! It's... it's the terrifying Crab Tsar! We've been spotted! This is bad, really bad! We need to get out of here right now!
Maite: You guys make like the wind! I'll distract its atten– Huh?
Paimon: Huh? Why is the crab running away?!
(The Crab Tsar seals the cave with Unipolar Crystonite and escapes)
Paimon: Hey, these little crabs... were they hiding just now because something frightened them?
Paimon: Look, (‍Traveler‍), this little crab seems to be trying to give us something!
(A Rock Crab brings a Bipolar rock)
(Break the Crystonite)
Paimon: Whoa! That huge rock blocking our path just shattered!
Maite: Haha, that's the "key" alright! Nothing less than I'd expect from you!
Maite: Looks like these little guys can see we're on their side.
Paimon: Hey, aren't we technically here to steal from them!? Speaking of which, that giant crustacean is the Crab Tsar you mentioned, right?
Maite: That's no ordinary crustacean, pal. It's the most vicious, ruthless, ill-tempered... well, crustacean you'll ever meet.
Paimon: It's still just a crab!
(Approach the marked location)
Maite: Oh, I get it... It must've been scared off by your awesome power!
Maite: Hehe, don't worry. Since it was the crabs who blocked our path in the first place, we can use the crabs to get through. Let's lure them here with their favorite Lakkaberries...
(Submit Lakkaberry Lakkaberry ×1 to feed the Rock Crab)
(The crab opens the path)

(Investigate the first blocked passage, optional)
Paimon: Hmm, looks like this way is blocked...
(Investigate the second blocked passage, optional)
Maite: This way is blocked too, buddy. *sigh* If only we had abilities like those Frostmoon weirdos do...
(Approach the marked location)
Paimon: Huh? Looks like there's no way forward... Where did that big crab escape to?
Maite: *sigh* This is a problem. These mirrors were left behind by those Frostmoon weirdos. Only they and the Crab Tsar can travel through them...
Paimon: Um, so that big crab actually went inside the mirrors? It's just a crab, so where did it learn how to do that?
Maite: Well, it probably has something to do with that cursed stone of desireTwardowska's Stone.
Maite: *ahem* Better find a wall first, buddy, in case you fall over from what I'm about to tell you! I, Maite Veliu, am actually a member of the Conch Gang, here to gather intel—
Icon Dialogue Talk White Oh, so you're also from the Conch Gang!
Maite: Hm? What's with that reaction... Have you heard of us before?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Tch! Run, Miss Paimonovna! I'll hold them off!
Paimon: R—Run? Wait, what's so scary about that!? Also, what kinda corny reaction is that? And who is Miss Paimonovna anyway?
Maite: Hah, it's normal to react that way when you hear our name. But don't worry buddy, I'm not your enemy.
Maite: Anyway, forget about that for now. Just so you know, I've been observing this place for quite some time already.
(If the player has not completed For a Green Island...)
Maite: Truth is, His Majesty the Crab Tsar used to be quite docile, and didn't know how to travel through these mirrors, until six months ago...
Maite: That was when it picked up a strange stone from somewhere and started carrying it on its back. Its temper has taken a deadly turn ever since.
(If the player has completed For a Green Island...)
Maite: Truth is, His Majesty the Crab Tsar used to be quite docile, and it couldn't travel through these mirrors either — that is, until recently, when it found that stone from who-knows-where...
Maite: By which I mean that big stone you saw it carrying on its back. Since then, its temperament has taken a... particularly deadly turn.
Maite: Evil, cruel, easily agitated... Sometimes it even uses its pincers to crush other little crabs, turning this place upside down...
Paimon: Wait, so the "treasure" you're looking for is actually the stone on its back! No wonder you say we'll have to defeat it first...
(If the player has not completed For a Green Island...)
Maite: Heh, that's right, buddy! Just like how Reed Miller took the Frostmoon treasure back from the greedy governor, bringing her back to her senses!
Maite: The duty of a master thief has always been to side with the oppressed, so that they don't have to kneel before any... uh, any crab! So, for all the little crabs...!
(If the player has completed For a Green Island...)
Maite: Heh heh, that's right, buddy! According to the stories, Lovia, High Priestess of the Frost Moon, was also once bewitched by one such stone of desire five hundred years ago.
Maite: The desperate pleas of Lady Aila moved the master thief Reed Miller to steal that cursed stone, and he captured her heart in the process — why else would she have remained unmarried for life?
???: ...I see. Is this what you wish for, Ruler of "Elysium"?
Maite: Eeek!
Maite: *cough* No, I—I wasn't scared! I'm the heir of the legendary thief Reed Miller, I... Anyway, identify yourself, now!
(If the player has not completed For a Green Island...)
Paimon: Whoa, you scared Paimon for sure! Didn't expect to find anyone else in a place like this... Huh. You look like a Frostmoon priestess...
(If the player has completed For a Green Island...)
Paimon: Whoa! Y—You're that priestess who appeared near Thunderclap Reef earlier! Uh, Verna said you were a fake, though...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Ruler of Elysium? Are you talking about Maite?
Maite: Ahaha, stop pulling my leg, (‍brother‍/sister‍)! Do I look like a person of lordly caliber to you? That title suits you much better, don't you think?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Ruler of Elysium? Are you talking about Paimon?
Paimon: Eh? Paimon!? Is Paimon a...? *ahem* Then Paimon, your Lady, commands you to go to Nasha Town and buy Paimon an endless supply of krumkakes... Um, just kidding.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Ruler of Elysium? Are you talking about me?
???: ...
Maite: S—So what are you doing in a place like this, buddy? Eyes up — you're all alone, while there's three of us!
Maite: We are a fellowship of free people, and if you wish to seize us and take us to the Frost Moon, then you're outta luck! Even back when Snezhnograd had the legendary Reed Miller—
???: ...Fear not, I am not your enemy.
???: Still, "Reed Miller"... is that the name you have chosen to follow in this sublunary sphere?
Maite: Hmph, o—of course! Anyway, I've got no interest in plots and schemes in the shadows. What exactly do you want? Out with it!
(If the player has completed For a Green Island...)
Paimon: Yeah, and didn't you tell us to wait for you at the Court of the First Edict earlier?
???: ...No, there's no need for such meaningless words. You are only here for the treasure... I know that. I've known it from the beginning...
???: ...Cast your gaze that way. Look beneath the mirror. When the mirror shatters, you will find that cursed object that corrupts the hearts of men...
???: ...As for me...
Maite: Hey, wait, don't go!
Paimon: Whoa, she's gone again... Who in the world is that priestess?
(If the player has not completed For a Green Island...)
Maite: Hmph, who knows. Those Frostmoon folks have always been kinda loony and cryptic...
(If the player has completed For a Green Island...)
Maite: I—I don't know either. That one's acting all mysterious, just like Aila from the story... Those Frostmoon folks are always like this, never telling you the whole tale.
Maite: But I suppose there's no other choice now. Let's follow her advice and go look that way.
(Approach the center of the mirror while empowered with kuuvahki)
Paimon: Whoa! Look in the mirror! Is that... that big crab from just now?
(The mirror breaks)
Paimon: Whoa! Watch your step, (‍Traveler‍)! That drop looks pretty steep!
Paimon: Phew... Good thing that priestess lady warned us the mirror might break, otherwise someone could've really gotten hurt...
Maite: Y—Yeah. Hmm. Looks like she doesn't mean us any harm...
Maite: Alright, let's chase it down! All we gotta do is lay the smack down on His Majesty the Tsar, and that treasure's ours!

(Approach the cave)
Maite: Hah! Nowhere left to run now, huh?
Maite: I know these grounds like the back of my hand, and I can tell you we've got it cornered. Once we take it down here, this will all be over.
Maite: What do you say? Are you ready, (‍brother‍/sister‍)?
Icon Dialogue Talk White I'm ready.
Maite: Alright, let's do this! Time to show that fellow what a proper, no holds barred frontal sneak attack looks like!
Paimon: Right! A frontal sneak atta— Wait, can you even call it a sneak attack if we do it from the front!?
Icon Dialogue Talk White Hold on, I need a moment to prepare...
Maite: No problem, I'll keep an eye on it for you... But try to be quick, buddy.
(Dialogue resets)
(While fighting the Crab Tsar)
Paimon: Ooh! Speaking of which, it looks like the stone fragments on these crabs can pass through those mirrors, too!
Paimon: (‍Traveler‍), let's try using stones to force it out!
(After defeating the Crab Tsar)
(The rock on the Crab Tsar's back flies away)
Paimon: I—It flew away...
???: ...Have you come... searching for me?
(If the player has not completed For a Green Island...)
Paimon: Whoa, it's the priestess from before!
Paimon: Uh, we weren't exactly looking for you, but... Who are you really?
(If the player has completed For a Green Island...)
Paimon: Whoa, it's the purple-haired priestess! She's appeared out of nowhere again!
Paimon: Um, you... could say we came to find you. You didn't reveal your identity earlier when Verna was here... Now it's just us, so you can say anything you want!
Paimon: Like, you could talk about the whole deal with this "Court of the First Edict"... You said you'd be waiting for us there, so how come you're here?
???: ...Guiding the prophesied Ruler of "Elysium" is our mission in the sublunary sphere...
???: ...I know who you are and what you want. I can see the threads of fate woven by moonlight, so... stop pursuing me. It is pointless...
???: It's always like this, always... Promising to take me away, then always leaving me behind...
???: This time is no different... Asking those questions just to give me false hope so I would stay, waiting for a salvation that will never come... isn't that right?
Paimon: No, that's not what we meant! Please don't cry... We're adventurers, and we love helping others. If you need help with anything, just tell us...
Paimon: Sh—She's gone again... Who in the world is that strange lady?
Icon Dialogue Talk White I don't think she's a good person.
Paimon: Yeah, she talks weirdly and avoids our questions. She's got a real scary look on her face, too. Maybe she's the one who turned the crab into this...
Icon Dialogue Talk White I don't think she's a bad person.
Paimon: Yeah, even though she talks weirdly and has a scary look on her face, she seems to be guiding us...
Icon Dialogue Talk White Lauma might know. (Condition missing)
Paimon: Oh right! Since she's dressed like a Frostmoon Scion, Lauma must know her! Let's ask her about it the next time we meet, shall we?
Paimon: Hey, wait... Where's Maite?
Maite: Well, buddy, how's it going? Have you calmed down?
Maite: *sigh* Seems like it's hiding away out of regret, after all the terrible things it did to the little crabs while under the stone's influence.
Paimon: That's kind of sad...
Maite: It's alright. Let it reflect on its actions for now. Those who do bad things must be punished — this is the fate of all evil rulers.
Paimon: Still, Paimon didn't expect that stone to fly away like that...
Maite: Well, it's not a bad thing. If it had actually circulated on the market, it might have hurt even more people.
Maite: Here, have this too. Now that His Majesty the Tsar has become docile once more, my observation notes are complete.
Maite: And from now on, you're a friend of the Conch Gang. When you dine at the Speranza Restaurant in Nasha Town, just mention the name Maite...
(If "I don't think she's a good person." was chosen)
Icon Dialogue Talk White And I'll get my meal on the house?
(If "I don't think she's a bad person." was chosen)
Icon Dialogue Talk White And I'll get my grub on the house?
(If "Lauma might know." was chosen)
Icon Dialogue Talk White And collect my free meal ticket?
Maite: ...No, I don't have that kind of pull yet. You'll still need to settle your bills with Big Sis Katya.
Paimon: Huh? What's the point of mentioning your name, then!?
Maite: O—Of course there's a point! If Big Sis Katya's in a good mood, she might even buy you all drinks or something...
Paimon: So it still depends on someone else's mood!
Maite: *whimper* Th—Then, even if she isn't feeling up to it, I'll still buy you drinks... No, I'll treat you to a meal! I'll have to work a few days for the funds, though...
Maite: *cough* A promise is a promise, and one good turn deserves another — that's the rule set by the legendary Reed Miller! So take this IOU, buddy!
(Quest ends)
(Obtain Maite's IOU Maite's IOU and Maite's Notes Maite's Notes)

(Talk to Maite by the Crab Tsar's Palace teleport waypoint, optional)
Maite: What is it, (‍brother‍/sister‍)? Is there anything else you want to ask?
Icon Dialogue Talk White About that crab...
Maite: *sigh* It looks scary, but it's always been gentle. It'll probably return to normal now that the stone's gone.
Maite: But for now, let's leave it to hide away and reflect on its actions. Manipulated or not, what's done is done, and it still hurt all those little crabs.
Maite: Just like that bad governor who went up against Reed Miller while under the mirror's spell — excuses don't change the fact that you have to right wrongs with action.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Tell me about that strange stone...
Maite: Hehe, that's the stoneTwardowska's Stone of desire, an item that can manipulate human hearts... Hmm, at least I think that's the name Big Sis Hidimbi mentioned?
Maite: *ahem* A—Anyway, it's something that fell out of the skies, like that giant rock over where the Frostmoon Scions live. Since it flew away, we should be safe now.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Tell me about the Conch Gang...
Maite: Hmm? You wanna learn about us, (‍brother‍/sister‍)? Sure. You're already a friend of ours, anyway.
Maite: We're like a... Hmm, a mutual aid and coordination organization for like-minded people of similar age. It's a shame that you're too old to join us, but...
Maite: If you should ever need help with anything in Nasha Town while I'm around and able, just call on me!
Icon Dialogue Talk White About that odd person from before...
Maite: Oh, you mean that purple-haired priestess. She hasn't made a move against us yet, so at least she's not our enemy — for now. We should try to stay out of her business as much as possible, though.
Maite: Curiosity can prove deadly. Big Sis Katya also warned against making contact with those Frostmoon weirdos, and for good reason — even a master thief like myself was almost caught and sacrificed to their Moon Goddess once.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Sacrificed!?
Maite: Yeah, those folks are really creepy. I've heard that they take blood from different people and... Ugh, just thinking about it gives me the chills. Let's leave it at that.
Maite: Fortunately, the one who caught me was just a naive little girl. She agreed to let me go after I told her a few stories. Otherwise...
Maite: I—I wasn't scared, really. A master thief never gets scared! Just a word of advice for you, though — stay away from them.
Maite: Ah, right, I almost forgot about the informant I promised you details about earlier. All that I learned about the Frostmoon Scions, I got from Big Sis Hidimbi.
Maite: If you wanna find her... Well, I think she's still around Nasha Town. Ask around and you should find out.
Icon Dialogue Talk White She'll be taking a long break, I think...
Maite: Hmm? So you've met her already? I never heard her mention taking time off... Ah well, that can wait.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Doesn't sound all that reliable...
Maite: Oh, don't worry. She's super reliable. Trust in Maite, and set your worries aside!
Icon Dialogue Talk White See you.
Maite: Alright. Safe travels, buddy.
(After leaving Maite for some time)‍[How much real time?]
Paimon: Paimon's a bit worried about that Maite girl. Let's go check on her when we're free!
