Dialogue
Something seems amiss in Dreadshade Mire...
Sealing Pillar #1
- (Approach the location)
- Paimon: How did things get like this... Hmph! All this contamination, and it looks so insufferably smug!
- Paimon: (Traveler), let's help the animals by clearing this Abyss contamination — we can't let that thing do as it pleases!
- Paimon: Huh? It's that scrap of paper that fell out just now. Let's see what's written on it.
- (Purify Sealing Pillar #1 after defeating the Evil Eye of Blightseeps)
-
- (The pillar glows with light, causing a ball of Abyssal energy to emerge and fly away)
- (Interact with Sealing Pillar #1, optional)

- Ancient Incantations
...
Truth takes time to build, but lies can be created overnight.
If slander continues to spread, the foundations of trust will be eroded.
Even the strongest oath of loyalty will not survive amid suspicion.
Exploiting the arrogance of the nobility, allowing hatred to grow and spread,
Thus lending opportunity to the most deeply hidden evil intentions.
This is the second of his three great sins.
...
With a stone pillar as its seal, and a spell as its shroud,
Let the evidence of the Serpent of All Evils' crimes be inscribed within the lantern's shade.
- Ancient Incantations
- (Halfway between Sealing Pillars #1 and #2, optional)
-
- (Three Fatui Oprichniki run down the nearby hill nearby)
- Fatui Survivor: That monster... It's stopped chasing us! Phew, that was way too close for comfort. But...
- Fatui Survivor: K—Keep your guard up! If you spot anything suspicious, engage at once!
- Paimon: Honestly, who goes rushing in before even knowing what's going on?
- (Approach the Fatui camp near Sealing Pillar #2, optional)
- Paimon: This looks like a Fatui camp, but there's no sign of life... Paimon gets the impression it was abandoned in a hurry.
- Paimon: What in Teyvat happened here? Come on, let's take a look around!
- (Investigate the highlighted spot, optional)
Investigate
- Prospector's Command
Discover new sealing pillars within the swamp, observe whether the kuuvahki in that area has any unique characteristics, and gather necessary data for future research.
Be careful not to alert the Lightkeepers.
- Prospector's Command
Sealing Pillar #2
- Paimon: It's the Wild Hunt... Why do bad guys always band together? Come on — let's make sure they can't get in our way!
- Paimon: Sounds like something just fell out... Let's take a look — maybe there's a clue.
- (Purify Sealing Pillar #2)
-
- (The pillar glows with light, causing a ball of Abyssal energy to emerge and fly away)
- (Interact with Sealing Pillar #2, optional)

- Ancient Incantations
...
The order of life that leads to its end must remain inviolate.
Such power, no mere mortal can possess.
Pushing others into the tower of no return and depriving them of their destiny...
Even the most merciful judgment would never forgive such a crime.
But how shall sinners fear the questions of restless souls?
Even the deepest abyss cannot hide the silver light falling from the high tower.
This is the third of his three major sins.
...
As for all of Raimo's crimes,
The moonlight and the Soul Lamp bear witness to them.
With a stone pillar as its seal, and a spell as its shroud,
Let the evidence of the Serpent of All Evils' crimes be engraved upon the reefs.
- Ancient Incantations
- (Approach the house just south of Sealing Pillar #2, optional)[Dialogue is obtainable through purifying all pillars, unclear whether it is obtainable after entering the barrier]
- Paimon: Why are there so many Wild Hunt gathered here...?
- Paimon: Hey, there's another lantern here — and it's been put out.
- (After defeating the enemies)
- ???: The light's on... Master...? Is that you?
- Paimon: Huh, there's someone in that house...
- After a brief moment, a young Ratnik emerges from the house.
- ???: *sigh* I—I thought it was my master returning. Turns out it's just a couple of passersby...
- ???: Wait a minute... This place is dangerous. The swamp is crawling with Wild Hunt and other monsters. I have no idea how you even made it this far, but... Hmm, the Wild Hunt outside...
- Paimon: Don't worry, we already took care of them!
- ???: W—What!?
- ???: *sigh* If I'd known such strong adventurers would be passing by, I'd never have allowed my master to go off alone...
- ???: That great fool — he said, "Haha! It's only right that the stronger Lightkeeper faces the most enemies! I'll deal with that rabble, then I'll come back for you!"
- (If the player has not met Janusz)
-
- ???: ...He lured most of the monsters away... He even left his lantern behind...
- (If the player met Janusz already)
-
- ???: ...Then he lured most of the monsters away... He even left his lantern behind...
- Paimon: Your master...? He wouldn't happen to be called Janusz, would he?
- ???: Yes! So you've already met my master!? Is he alright? He's not hurt, is he? I've been waiting for him for ages!
- Paimon: We ran into him a while ago, somewhere over that way. He was hurt, but we took care of his wounds. He should be on his way to find you soon.
- ???: Thank goodness he's okay... I was starting to think I might be making more than just cat food for Jelly at the next... well... anniversary.
- Paimon: Hey! Don't you dare start talking like that!
- Oskari: Anyway, thank you for helping take care of the Wild Hunt. My name is Oskari — I'm a Ratnik.
- Oskari: Master and I came here for a routine patrol of the swamp, but... the moment we arrived, something went wrong with the sealing pillars. That's when I saw it...
- Oskari: It was a huge silhouette, looming in the mist, darker than a starless night... and behind it... waves of twisted monsters, crawling...
- Oskari: It could only have been the Serpent of All Evils... I didn't think the rumors of it being sealed here were true...
Let's just calm down for a second...- Oskari: Ah... Ahem... Sorry. A Lightkeeper shouldn't lose their composure. It's just... Thinking about it sets my nerves on edge...
- Oskari: This won't do... Pull yourself together, Oskari... It's time you started acting like a true Lightkeeper...
- Oskari: Alright... The seal may be weakened, and this place is incredibly dangerous, however...
- Paimon: Don't sweat it, we're happy to help!
- Paimon: But what exactly is this "Serpent of All Evils"? Some kind of monster that escaped?
- Oskari: ...The Serpent of All Evils was said to be a high-ranking official back in the days of the Belyi Tsar — he was also close friends with that Rotwang character...
- Oskari: He was rumored to be ruthless, eliminating Rotwang's enemies at all costs... In the end, he fell along with Rotwang and transformed into a monster of pure darkness...
- Paimon: Sounds like a slippery, snakey scoundrel who deserves to be tied into a big sturdy knot!
- Oskari: Couldn't have said it better myself! He was the sort of person who would cling to life even if it meant biting through his own flesh. If someone like that really turned into a monster... I don't even dare imagine...
- Paimon: Well, in that case, we'd better find a way to re-establish the seal and stop him from breaking free again.
- Oskari: Wonderful! ...Though I don't actually know quite how to do that. If only my master were here...
- (If the player has not met Janusz)
-
- Oskari: He jokes around and likes to act tough, but... sometimes he can be kind of reliable.
- (If the player met Janusz already)
-
- Paimon: Janusz already talked us through it. Don't worry, we've got it covered!
- Oskari: That's wonderful! He jokes around and likes to act tough, but... sometimes he can be kind of reliable.
- Paimon: "Sometimes" he can be "kind of" reliable? How can you only be sometimes reliable!?
- Oskari: Well, I guess it's more like... When the stakes are high, he's always reliable. So maybe this time... he might actually...
- (If the player has not met Janusz)
-
- Oskari: N—Never mind. Let's just focus on finding a way to reseal the Serpent of All Evils...
- (If the player met Janusz already)
-
- Oskari: Ugh, you know what? Maybe I should just go with you... But Master did say to stay here and wait...
- Paimon: Don't worry about that — you just leave the sealing to us! After all, your master already told us he's coming to find you, right?
- Paimon: Don't worry about that — you just leave the sealing to us! After all, your Master told you to stay put, right?
- Oskari: Well, if you're willing to help. It's just... are you sure it's alright? Ugh... If only I weren't so useless! Please... the sealing... I'm counting on you!
- (Talk to Oskari again, optional)
- Oskari: I'll stay here and wait for my master to return. If there's anything you want to know, I'll do my best to answer your questions.
About the Serpent of All Evils...
- Oskari: Huh? Are you asking about when that monster was still human? That was over five hundred years ago.
- Oskari: Back then, under the Belyi Tsar, most of Snezhnaya's power was still in the hands of the fae nobility. He was one of the few humans to make it into politics.
- Oskari: Things went downhill the moment he became a disciple of Professor Rotwang.
- Oskari: Under Rotwang's influence, he used coercion, entrapment, even murder to sideline his master's political opponents.
- Oskari: Rotwang's rise to power would have been impossible without him. Seeing what he's now become, maybe it's simple retribution for all that he did.
- (Dialogue returns to option selection)
About the monster in the swamp...
- Oskari: You want to know how someone from five centuries ago could turn into a monster like that and then end up in this swamp? I've spent no small time investigating those very questions — but I've never found a definitive answer.
- Oskari: My guess is that he came here after Rotwang fell from power... But as to how he was sealed away... none of the texts I've searched record such details.
- (Dialogue returns to option selection)
About the Frostmoon Scions' seal...
- Oskari: The seal has remained stable for the last five hundred years. Even so, we Lightkeepers still check on it regularly — just in case.
- Oskari: I didn't think this patrol would be any different from the others... Master...
- Oskari: *sigh* I just hope he's safe.
- (Dialogue returns to option selection)
Thanks. You stay safe now!
- Oskari: I should be the one saying that to you! The deeper parts of this swamp are even more dangerous. I truly hope you don't run into trouble...
Sealing Pillar #3
- (Approach ???)
- Paimon: Huh? There's a Lightkeeper over there... He looks badly hurt. We should go see if he needs any help!
- (Talk to the collapsed Lightkeeper)
- ???: Heehee... Jelly... are you licking my face again? Your tongue's so soft... Yes, yes, you're the sweetest little kitty in the whole wide world...
- Paimon: Wait... Why does he look so out of it...? Hey! Get a grip, will you? There's no "Jelly" here!
- ???: Huh? Where'd Jelly go...? Did someone scare her away?
- Paimon: Hey, snap out of it! There was never a cat here to begin with!
- ???: Oh... That's a shame... Looks like I'll have to keep going a little longer in this Jelly-less world...
- ???: I have some medicine in my pocket... If you could... help me...
- Paimon: Of course. Leave it to us! You stay still and save your strength!
- After taking the medicine from the injured Ratnik's pocket and quickly tending to his wounds, he starts to look a little better.
- ???: You two really know how to treat a wound... I honestly thought I was about to see little Jelly again. Not that I would have been sad to see her...
- Paimon: Hey! Your cat can wait! Staying alive is the only thing you should be focusing on right now!
- ???: You're right... Thanks for your help. It's just... Jelly left me over ten years ago now. I really... really miss that soft little ball of fluff...
- Janusz: Honestly, thank you for saving me. My name's Janusz, by the way, and you?
- Paimon: Paimon's Paimon, and (he/
she)'s (Traveler)! Janusz, can you walk? If you can, we'll escort you out of here! - Janusz: ...It's a tempting offer, but I'm afraid I have to decline. I know I can never repay you for saving my life, but I'd still like to ask that you first travel to Piramida and request reinforcements...
- Janusz: I... I need to stay here and continue my investigation.
Even with such a serious wound?- Janusz: Honestly, I'll be fine. Don't worry about me.
- Janusz: The seal on the swamp has already weakened — someone must keep watch over it. Besides... that fool apprentice is probably still waiting for me. Leaving a comrade behind just isn't the Lightkeeper way.
- Paimon: Huh? The seal on the swamp? What's that?
- Janusz: There's said to be a sinner sealed in this swamp — a vile individual who once made a pact with a demon and was turned into a monster...
- Janusz: He must've done some really despicable things, because five hundred years ago, he was sealed here by the combined efforts of the Torchforger and the Moonchanter of the Frostmoon Scions.
- Janusz: Anyway, that's all an outsider needs to know. Please, deliver my request. It's still dangerous around here, so you'd better get moving.
- (If the player has completed Nightingale's Song)[verification needed]
- Paimon: We're not quite the "outsiders" you think, hehe. (Traveler) and I are already card-carrying members of Illuga's squad.
- Janusz: To earn Captain Illuga's approval... You two really are extraordinary. But when it comes to that monster, knowing too much might not necessarily be a boon.
- Janusz: Still, since you're "insiders," I guess I can rest easy leaving the request for reinforcements in your hands.
- Janusz: I just need a little more time to catch my breath. I still have tasks I need to attend to.
- Paimon: But Janusz... Your condition...
If it's about fixing the seal, maybe we can help?
- Paimon: Yeah! Breaking seals, fixing seals — we're all about that seal life!
There's no way we're leaving you here.
- Paimon: Right... If we head to Piramida now to get reinforcements, it's going to take ages. And by the time they arrive... you and Oskari, well...
- (If the player has completed Nightingale's Song)[verification needed]
-
- Paimon: You said it yourself — leaving a comrade behind isn't the Lightkeeper way! Besides, we're pretty experienced when it comes to sealing away monsters!
- (If the player has not completed Nightingale's Song)[verification needed]
-
- Paimon: Ugh! We can't just leave you here! And besides, we're pretty experienced when it comes to sealing away monsters!
- Janusz: ...Really? For some reason, I get the feeling you're not making that up...
- Janusz: Hmm... The situation here might be far more dangerous than you imagine. Even so...
Even so...- Paimon: ...Just one question — can we really re-establish this seal? Didn't it take the Torchforger and the Moonchanter working together to create it in the first place?
- Janusz: The seal itself doesn't require any special power. The Torchforger and the Moonchanter left their strength behind in the three stone sealing pillars...
- Janusz: There are a total of three pillars in this area — if you can channel kuuvahki into the location of each pillar, the ancient seal will be restored.
- Janusz: And the Spireblooms that grow there can inflict some serious wounds on the monster... at least, that's what the handbook says.
- Janusz: If you really manage to seal that thing again, I don't know how I'll ever repay you... How about this — in my next life, Jelly and I will come back as house cats for you?
- Janusz: We'll keep our fluffiest patches of fur just for you so you can pet us all you want!
- Paimon: Seriously? How can you make jokes at a time like this!?
- Janusz: Hehe, it's important to maintain a sense of humor no matter what the situation... Ahem. Anyway, let's get a move on!
- Paimon: No way! You can barely stand! You take it easy and let Paimon and (Traveler) deal with the sealing!
- Janusz: *sigh* You're not wrong. If I went along in this state, I'd only get in your way. I hate to admit it, but... I'll leave the seal to you.
- Janusz: Still, I am feeling better since you treated my wound. Even if I can't fight, I can still make myself useful in other ways. Besides... I still don't know how that fool of an apprentice is doing...
- Janusz: I'll head off to find him right away. If everything goes well, we'll figure out a way to help you from there. For now, you two be careful!
- Paimon: Don't worry! We'll have this all tied up in no time!
- After a few more sincere exhortations to "stay safe," Janusz sets off. His silhouette is almost instantly swallowed by the mist...
- (Lead the prism to Sealing Pillar #3)
- Paimon: This place really is dangerous! Paimon's not surprised Janusz got hurt...
- (After defeating the first wave of enemies)
- Paimon: Th—the Abyss power is super strong here! And there's something really huge...
- (After defeating all of the enemies, Abyssal Riftlines surround the pillar)
- Paimon: Looks like they're drawn to that stone pillar... Come on, let's hurry and clear the contamination!
- (Purify Sealing Pillar #3)
-
- (The pillar glows with light, causing a ball of Abyssal energy to emerge and fly away)
- (Interact with Sealing Pillar #3, optional)
-
- Ancient Incantations
...
A parent's love for their child is the purest in this world.
But when the very blood ties that should bind a family are instead used as a snare of coercion,
Even the most unshakeable resolve will break under the weight of fear and worry.
Making other people's closest relatives pawns in political ploys...
This is tantamount to tarnishing the sacred blessings the gods gave humankind.
This is the first of his three great sins.
...
With a stone pillar as its seal, and a spell as its shroud,
Let the evidence of the Serpent of All Evils' crimes be preserved beneath the moonlight.
- Ancient Incantations
After Purifying All Pillars
- (The light from the three pillars coalesces into a prismatic cage, trapping the ball of Abyssal energy within)
-
- (The cage shrinks in size as the Abyssal entity desperately tries to escape)
- Paimon: Hey, sounds like something strange is going on deeper in the swamp. Let's go take a look!
- (Approach the barrier)
- Paimon: The seal's working! Hmph, try running away now, you nasty, sneaky... meanie!
- (If the player has completed The Last Night, the First Light)
-
- Paimon: Hey! It's that thing we beat up on Piramida! Hmph, it clearly hasn't learned its lesson!
- (At the start of the battle)
- Serpent of All Evils: Regret... Those sins... They can never be undone...
- (Defeat the second wave)
- Serpent of All Evils: These are not my sins to bear... My only mistake was trusting — blindly, foolishly!
- (Defeat the third wave)
- Serpent of All Evils: I took your teachings as truth... when all along, they were the threshold of ruin...
- (Reduce the Serpent of All Evils's HP to 0)
- Serpent of All Evils: Despicable... The pain I bore on your behalf... The sins I took upon my shoulders... I once... saw you as...
- (The Serpent of All Evils revives itself to full HP)
- (Three glowing prisms converge on the Spirebloom at the center of the battlefield, revitalizing it)
- Paimon: That bright flower must be the Spirebloom Janusz was talking about! Let's use it to take care of that monster!
- Serpent of All Evils: Look how far I've fallen! Mired in this darkness, rotting in this filth — all because of you!
- (Defeat the Serpent of All Evils)
- Serpent of All Evils: You set my enemies before me, gave me the blade... and turned me into this twisted monster...
- (If the player has completed The Last Night, the First Light)
-
- Paimon: Still blaming others... Do you really not feel even the slightest remorse!?
- Among the shadows scattered by the wind, a final whisper faded like ripples on a pond.
"Why... Rotwang... why..." - Janusz: Stop getting in my way, Oskari! I can still fight! If we keep dawdling like this, we won't be able to help!
- Oskari: I—It's over... That thing... It's really...
- Oskari: Finally... we don't have to fear that shadow in the mist any longer... The gloom that's hung over this place for five hundred years has been lifted...
- Paimon: Janusz, you're here! Good news, we've already taken care of the monsters!
- Janusz: *sigh* One step behind. The moment I heard the commotion, I rushed straight on over... Oh well, as long as everything ended well, that's all that matters.
- Oskari: Th—That's such a relief!
- Paimon: Wait a second! Janusz, are you not still injured?
- Janusz: I had a little rest after meeting up with Oskari. I'm feeling alright now — there's no need to worry.
- Oskari: But Master... You can't stay here — your wounds need to be properly cleaned and bandaged to prevent infection!
- Janusz: What's the rush? Didn't I tell you? Impatience is a rookie mistake.
- Oskari: But Master, you also told me, "Acting tough is a fool's mistake!"
- Janusz: ...
It seems like a fool's mistake is worse...
The only hand that can fell a master... is his own.- Janusz: Hey! You're taking his side? Come on, (Traveler), we've still got too much left to do!
- Janusz: We need to check the seal, investigate the area for anything unusual — we can't leave yet. Besides, you're seriously underestimating me, I'm Janusz, the— ow, ow, ow!
- Oskari: Master...
- Janusz: All right, all right! Let's wrap this up quickly. Oh! Before I forget, thank you — without your help, we might never have been able to take care of that monster in the swamp!
- Oskari: And I want to thank you too — for saving my master!
- Paimon: Hehe, one big bad guy down, and two honest compliments earned. Paimon couldn't ask for a better outcome!
- (Quest ends)
- (Talk to Janusz or Oskari, optional)
- Oskari: *sigh* I feel like I've been no use whatsoever...
- Janusz: Really? According to who? You followed my instructions and stayed out of harm's way instead of rushing in and making things worse. That in itself is commendable.
- Janusz: If you can't remain unbiased and objective, I'm not sure I can trust you to write the report for this incident.
- Oskari: Y—Yes, Master, you're right... Wait— hold on. Did you just say... You're trusting me to write the report!?
- Oskari: R—Really!? I—I won't disappoint you!
- Janusz: Good. Keep it clear and concise. Just explain the cause, the outcome, and everything in between.
- Oskari: Hmm... I think I might have an idea about the cause of the seal weakening! We passed by a Fatui camp just now — I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were somehow involved!
- Janusz: How very perceptive... We'll go back and investigate later. Once we've gathered sufficient evidence, we can file an official protest with the Fatui.
