Cecilia

Cecilia is an NPC who was first mentioned during the Angels and Delusions of Muse Event, and first appeared during the Season 2 Interlude: Encore for an Old Dream.

Profile

Cecilia is the manager of the Angels of Delusion and 404 Error Livehouse. Once a famous singer now retired, she currently works as a vocal coach for the Angels of Delusion.

History

Cecilia was a famous singer and song-writer who worked under the name "Cersea", but she suffered from PTSD following the Fall of the Old Capital, which made her unable to sing despite the numerous songs she wrote at the time. Her agency forced her to continue her work, as her singing could help alleviate the hopelessness felt by the people following the catastrophe. They found a voice double for her, the Intelligent Construct Aria, who had been awoken from her slumber in a Hollow due to hearing Cecilia's music, and they began working together. Aria stood in as Cecilia's voice for her last few shows before she retired from performing, but she felt terrible about the situation, and believed that Aria should be able to succeed on her own, without being stuck in her shadow.^[3]

As time went on, Cecilia recieved treatment for her PTSD, Aria's singing helped her recover. She also became friends with Astra Yao at some point.^[4] Her appearance and voice changed, and she eventually came to meet the Angels of Delusion, which Aria was part of. She signed on to be their vocal coach, though due to her lingering guilt over having Aria work as her voice double, she withheld her former identity as Cersea from the group. She also came to take over 404 Error, offering invitations to various groups such as Satellite, The Forecasters, The Darkforge and The Deepsea Aliens.^[3]

In the lead up to the Gilded Carrot Day that followed after Ye Shunguang was awarded the title of Void Hunter, rumors circulated that Cersea would come out of retirement, but Cecilia had no intentions of returning, with Vesper - a singer from TOPS Entertainment, taking the role of lead performer instead.^[4] The intelligent entity Youkai began causing problems throughout New Eridu by hijacking construct citizens, and it was during this time that the truth about Cecilia's identity was revealed, causing Aria, who was already under emotional duress and suffering from Youkai's influence, to spiral and was hijacked in turn.^[5]

After she recovered, the master-student-pair came clean to one another, reconciling before continuing their preparations for their Gilded Carrot Day performance.‍^{[verification needed]} However, Youkai had managed to coerce Vesper, hoping to use her to disrupt the celebrations. After Aria overcame Vesper in a co-op encounter, she was taken away by Krampus, leaving the staff for the ceremony desperate for someone to take over, and returning to Cecilia. She proposed to the Angels for them to join her on stage, but they refused, not wanting to compromise their debut performance at the 404 Livehouse.^[5] Expressing her pride in them, the angels returned to Sixth Street, while Cecilia took the stage to perform at Failume Heights, singing the same song as the angels as they welcomed the new year.^[6]

• Cersea's Chinese name 瑟汐 Sèxī uses 汐 xī, meaning "night tides" or "evening ebbtide," possibly referencing her aquatic traits, and "sea" in the stage name.
• The name Cecilia comes from the Ancient Roman plebeian family name Caecilia. The founder of this family, Caeculus, was born from a spark.
  • In Christianity, Saint Cecilia is the patron saint of musicians, and she is also associated with songbirds; Cecilia's musical background might thus be a reference to her.
