Tsukishiro Yanagi's Lore

Last updated 2026-09-09

"Hey, Nagi! did you really buy those red bean buns today? Try to remember."
Soukaku

"I really can't deal with Tsukishiro. Does she not have the phrase 'turn a blind eye' in her dictionary?"
Asaba Harumasa

"Yanagi, does the report really have to be written by the section chief? What...even modifying this policy requires a report?"
Hoshimi Miyabi

"Is today Deputy Chief Tsukishiro's birthday?"
A new Hollow Special Operations employee who saw Yanagi's desk filled with flowers on Mother's Day

Official Introduction

It’s Tsukishiro Yanagi from Hollow Special Operations Section 6! I’ve heard that Section 6 is the cream of the crop. What kind of work does Miss Yanagi, as the Deputy Chief, do on a daily basis? Everyone must be very curious!
"Well... it's hard to say. Sometimes, I end up working into the next day without even realizing it."

"Hello, I'm Tsukishiro Yanagi, Deputy Chief of Section 6."
Tsukishiro Yanagi

"One day, I was so hungry from working overtime that I nearly passed out, but luckily Asaba tossed me a 'lifeline,' and I managed to pull through."
"Because this 'lifeline' was actually a donut."
"That was a joke. Why aren't you laughing...?"
"Wait, Asaba probably never works overtime."

Profile

The Deputy Chief of Hollow Special Operations Section 6, Tsukishiro Yanagi is an ex-soldier and former administrative officer from the New Eridu Defense Force who has been infused with Oni blood.[1] Her main jobs include general management, on-site support and being the guardian of her fellow member Soukaku; alongside all these duties, she usually finds herself having to complete the rest of the team's tasks as well. Due to the unique personalities of the other Section 6 members, Yanagi's seriousness and diligence classify her as the only "normal" member of the team. It is with her guidance, experience, and leadership that the primary on-field group's powers combine into true combat power.

History

Tsukishiro Yanagi was a member of the New Eridu Defense Force Obsidian Division[Note 1] who served during the Oni rebellion. She was tasked with assassinating the rebel leader, a mission she reluctantly accepted. Whilst making her way to the leader's hideout, she met a young Soukaku and soon saved her from an oncoming missile strike, being captured by Oni rebels in the process. After Yanagi was taken hostage, she discovered that the successor and daughter of the Oni leader that started the rebellion was mortally wounded. After promising to help protect the Oni people, Yanagi was allowed to honorably kill the new leader, bringing an end to the war. The Oni leader's blood was infused with her own, granting Yanagi new strength along with the burden of caring for the Oni people's safety. Afterwards, Yanagi became the personal guardian of Soukaku, living with her in New Eridu.[1] As a member of the Defense Force. she collaborated with H.A.N.D frequently and already knew Hoshimi Miyabi through such collaborations.[2]

Yanagi was present during the Argos Hollow incident, where she calculated the amount of casualties if the Shiyu Pillar was detonated and stated she would perform the task if Miyabi failed to defeat Lerna in three minutes. After Miyabi's victory, she, alongside H.A.N.D. executive officer Asaba Harumasa, were transferred to the newly formed Hollow Special Operations Section 6 by the newly titled Void Hunter in order to expose the roots of corruption within New Eridu[3] Yanagi later ascended to Deputy Chief, taking responsibility for both her ward and her fellow members.

During an invitation by the Hollow Investigative Association to test out their VR system, Yanagi became crucial in saving her teammates' lives when the systems were hacked by the Proxy group Null_Face, trapping them within the virtual environment. Her perseverance and combat skill allowed her to escape the system along with her teammates.[4]

Agent Weapon

Ethereal Naginata: Uro Tsuki
A retractable naginata custom-made in the HAND weapon workshop from a special lightweight Ether alloy. It's light and agile, easy to conceal, and looks like an ordinary self-defense device when retracted.

A lightweight retractable blade... can it really hold up against a ferocious Ethereal?

It doesn't matter. After all, Deputy Chief Tsukishiro is an exceptional intelligence officer with thorough intel on each enemy's weakness — one fatal strike is more than enough.

Impressions

  • Her singing skills sure are shocking.
  • Her obsession with red bean buns seems perfectly reasonable.
  • Yanagi... she doesn't seem to just suffer from simple nearsightedness.

Agent Details

Tsukishiro Yanagi, Hollow Special Operations Section 6 Deputy Chief and intelligence officer.
Primarily responsible for personnel management, mission management and feedback, collecting intel, on-site support, etc.
At the same time, Yanagi is also Section 6 member Soukaku's Protector. Apart from taking care of Soukaku's day-to-day affairs, she is also responsible for and takes responsibility for all of Soukaku's behavior at work.

Section 6 Chief Hoshimi Miyabi possesses a rather eccentric personality; Asaba Harumasa, a member of Section 6, is overly relaxed and carefree; and Soukaku, another member of Section, [sic] 6 is still an innocent and excitable child, so most of the team's work falls upon Yanagi's shoulders.
Serious, diligent, and meticulous, Tsukishiro Yanagi is the only "normal" person on the team, so to speak. It is only due to her guidance and leadership that the strength of the three who make up Section 6's primary on-field force can be transformed into true combat power.
Overall, Tsukishiro Yanagi is a talented and highly efficient executive officer, whose abilities are both exceptional and comprehensive.
However, from certain data, Tsukishiro Yanagi appears to have a somewhat clumsy side to her when it comes to day-to-day affairs.

Where did Fairy even get this info? So even a perfect person like Yanagi has her clumsy moments? Got any specifics to share?

How should I put this...? From this data, it feels like Section 6 would fall apart without Yanagi.

"Hey Miss Promoter, any recommendations?"
When asked, Yanagi brushes back a loose strand of hair and gently gazes at the inquirer from behind her glasses.
"My recommendations? Though it may not suit you... I think this movie will have a fascinating effect in calming your nerves."
She successfully manages to get a lot of terrible movies... er, experimental movies with unique and miraculous designs sold.
Promoting... in front of people... It's not exactly my forte. However, if it's just recommending movies, that I can do.

Trivia

  • The watch on Yanagi's naginata displays the player's actual local time, with the hands moving in sync with real-life clocks.
  • Yanagi's naginata seems to grant her some form of temporal control, since time seemingly slows down for a short period when she activates it, allowing her to dodge oncoming attacks.[5]
  • Yanagi's nearsightedness is a side effect of the Oni blood transfusion, which impacted her optic nerves, even causing her to become temporarily blind from time to time.[6]
  • There are several elements of Yanagi related to the moon.
    • Tsuki (Japanese: ), in Yanagi's surname Tsukishiro (Japanese: 月城), means "the moon".
    • The names of Yanagi's skills are based on the moon.
    • Yanagi has two stances, Jōgen (Japanese: 上弦) and Kagen (Japanese: 下弦), while Jōgen mean the first quarter moon, and Kagen means the last quarter of the moon.
    • The final cutscene in the Special Episode of Yanagi Virtual Revenge, is called "The Moon that Illuminates the Stars", which the moon implies Yanagi and the star implies Hoshimi Miyabi, where Hoshi (Japanese: ) in her surname means "star".
    • Yanagi's banner is called Moonlit Serenity.
    • Yanagi's TV schedule is called Moonlight Traces.

Etymology

  • 月城 Tsukishiro literally means "Moon Castle," while her given name, Yanagi, is the willow tree.

Notes

  1. Given the rebellion took place after the foundation of New Eridu, the only division she could have been a member of is Obsidian, as it is the only surviving division after the fall of the Old Capital. For more information, see Roaming the Ether.
