Bennett is a young man living in Mondstadt who is part of the Adventurers' Guild and is the leader and sole member of Benny's Adventure Team.

Bennett has had more than his fair share of hardships thanks to his extraordinarily bad luck, yet he continues to be a strong and hardworking member of the Adventurers' Guild. He is optimistic, well-behaved, and full of passion for adventuring. Despite the long and excruciating stretches of bad luck he encounters, he is also inventive, having created different solutions for the problems he faces while adventuring.

Bennett believes his Vision is a sign from the gods: a sign that they have not given up on him, just like how the old and or retired veteran adventurers from the Guild — whom he affectionately refers to as "dads" — have not given up on him either.

Appearance

Bennett uses the medium male model. He has pale ash-gray hair, light tan skin, and bright green eyes. It seems that he keeps getting scarred from his various misadventures and categorically terrible luck. He has a prominent scar on his left shoulder.

History

Past

Bennett was born to Macani and Aroni, who belonged to the Collective of Plenty and Masters of the Night-Wind tribes respectively. Macani was the leader of the Tecpatl's Flintblades Adventure Team, which consisted of him, Aroni, Anja and Chaco. After he was born, the two decided to settle down, but Anja convinced the team to go on one final adventure before they did so. They decided to venture to Tenochtzitoc, which would end up being their doom, as they were ambushed and overpowered by the Abyss. Having given their lives to protect Bennett, the group prayed for his safety, sacrificing their spirit forms and memories, transforming them into Asha. Bennett miraculously survived and was later discovered by an elderly adventurer from the Adventurers' Guild in the Mare Jivari.^[5]

Viewing him as the treasure his final adventure was meant to find, the adventurer decided to return to Mondstadt with him in tow, but died of his injuries before he could tell his story. Other old adventurers from the Guild decided to raise him and were the ones to name him.^[6] This act resulted in him leaving Natlan's borders, and because he was disconnected from Natlan's Ley Lines, he became susceptible to Abyssal influence as he was outside the scope of the Wayob's protection. This influence manifested as inexplicably bad luck. As he grew older, he viewed the retired adventurers of the guild as his fathers and eventually led his own team, Benny's Adventure Team. Unfortunately, his bad luck caused accidents and its members eventually dropped out, leaving him alone. To spare him from the grief of disbanding his own team, Katheryne allowed the team's registration to remain active.^[7]

During his travels, Bennett would sustain numerous injuries attributed to his bad luck, though he would push through them. These injuries resulted in him getting valuable first-aid experience, with more severe injuries being treated by Barbara. He would become acquainted with Razor, Klee and Fischl, befriending them. He eventually obtained a Pyro Vision after pushing through a particularly dangerous incident that could've resulted in his bleeding to death, which the Vision cauterized.^[8]

Present

Bennett had already become acquainted with the Traveler by the time the Traveler experienced their first Windblume Festival in Mondstadt. He was with Barbara, who had received a letter and mistakenly thought that Jean had been buried. Realizing where the location was, he ran off to the Thousand Winds Temple, only to find Razor stuck in a trap. He tried to free him, only to be caught too and had to wait for rescue, which came with the Traveler's arrival. During the wait, he also finished his poem and gave it to Venti. After being freed, Bennett departed with Razor, who had some interesting spots to show him.^[9]

Bennett later went to Dragonspine to help out rookie adventurers, but failed to arrive on time; he had gotten caught in a trap and was captured by the Fatui, resulting in his assigned rookie, Gerald, being assigned to someone else. Learning why they had come, they returned to Albedo's camp, where they were met by Albedo and Eula. Amber later arrived, having been tasked by Cyrus to look for him as he had still failed to return.^[10] Bennett decided to assist in the investigation, during which an avalanche nearly buried him were it not for Albedo's intervention.^[11]

During the Traveler's first Weinlesefest, Bennett learned of Razor's dilemma regarding wine-brewing. He decided to give him something to help, during which he somehow faceplanted on a Small Lamp Grass; miraculously, the plant was unharmed, which prompted him to gift it to Razor for his wine. Klee then asked if he would like to be part of her mother's family, which he refused, citing his positions. Klee was dismayed but nonetheless respected his decision, so she gave him a Jumpty Dumpty that would not explode, claiming that it would be happy to make a new friend. Bennett accepted her gift. Later, he grabbed a bottle from his fathers and showed it to Razor, surprised that he had not broken it on the way.^[12]

When Durin's monsters invaded Mondstadt, Bennett helped defend the city from the attacking monsters.^[13]

After the end of the Night Warden Wars in Natlan, Bennett was given an invitation to the Easybreeze Holiday Resort by Cyrus, which had been sent to the Adventurers' Guild branches across Teyvat, and went along with Venti to explore Natlan. When he arrived, Bennett was surprised to discover his normally bad luck was replaced with good luck, which he wrote down over the next several days. He also met Mualani at her family's shop before arriving at the resort. Bennett led an improvised group consisting of himself, the Traveler, Venti, Chasca and Mualani, partaking in the resort's activities. When they tried to claim their rewards, the representative, Ukucha, discovered the pictures were blurred. They then noticed their Asha companion was missing and began searching for it, discovering a rift. They entered the rift, finding themselves in Mare Jivari. Bennett was separated from the rest of the group and began suffocating, but was saved in time by group with Venti's guidance. He reunited with his parents, who were pleased to see how he had grown and were able to rest in peace. Bennett was relieved to learn about his past and found closure in it before returning to Mondstadt.^[14] He found that his bad luck returned after he left Natlan's borders, though he largely brushed it off as he was used to that.

Bennett began planning a return trip to the resort for his dads and friends as soon as he got home, and working on lucrative commissions to pay for it. After several months, he had saved up enough by his birthday and confirmed all the details for the trip.^[15]

Bennett participated in Alice and Nicole's experiment with a memory bubble, roleplaying as a Fatuus with the rest of the Adventurers' Guild. When he and Cyrus confronted the group after the auto-load costume bug was fixed, he was given a gun, but it malfunctioned, forcing him to the sidelines. He then gave the group the access crest.^[16]

• Bennett's name means "blessed".^[17]
  • It is unknown if Bennett has a Natlanese birthname, as his parents never mentioned one in life, nor if they ever gave him one when they met him as spirits. In any case, they were very pleased with 'Bennett' as they felt that it was a very appropriate name.
• Bennett's birthday falls on the leap day February 29, which generally only occurs every four years. On non-leap years, Bennett instead celebrates it on February 28.
• He shares his English voice actress, Cristina "Vee" Valenzuela, with Xingqiu.
• In his wish art, Bennett wields a Harbinger of Dawn.
  • Bennett also wields a Traveler's Handy Sword in Shadows Amidst Snowstorms and Sunspray Summer Resort.
• Bennett wrote an anonymous message on the Cat's Tail Message Board, in which he confesses that he finds it difficult to take care of his "dads" in the Adventurers' Guild alone.
• Bennett is Natlanese, related to the Masters of the Night-Wind and Collective of Plenty tribes through his mother and father respectively.

  • Mualani states that Bennett, having largely spent his life beyond the borders of Natlan, was left disconnected from the ley lines of their people and the direct cause of his bad luck. While he noted his unusually good luck in Natlan, he returns to misfortune upon leaving the nation.

Etymology

• Bennett's name is derived from the Latin word Benedictus, meaning "blessed."^[18] It may also be a reference to Bennett's fracture, a fracture of the carpometacarpal joint caused by hyperextension of the thumb that results in reduced strength in the corresponding hand even with surgical repair. This aspect is made more likely by the presence of the thumbs up gesture in his abilities and theming.
• His constellation, Rota Calamitas, is Latin for "Wheel of Misfortune."
