Asha
Last updated 2026-09-09
Asha are an exploration and puzzle mechanic exclusive to the Easybreeze Holiday Resort in Natlan.
They are a special type of Monetoo that serve as the mascots of the resort.[1] The player can use the Saurian Indwelling mechanic on Asha to traverse and apply paint on certain surfaces.
Overview
While indwelling an Asha, the player gains the following abilities:
- Walk up walls without consuming Phlogiston.
- Walk on water and "surf" on Trails of Chroma without consuming Phlogiston.
- Grapple through the air (up to twice in a row) and use grappling holds without consuming Phlogiston.
- Perform an enhanced jump and hover while throwing paintballs without consuming Phlogiston.
- Sprint (including on water) by continuously consuming Phlogiston.
Surfaces and objects that can be painted have a distinct animated spotted pattern and are highlighted by Elemental Sight. Asha have a paint meter that continuously decreases while shooting paintballs. It refills automatically with time when the player stops firing. Three of the paint colors require quests or puzzles to unlock:
- Orange — complete To Colorfall Cliffs!
- Green — complete Kanei's Disappeared Dolls challenge
- Purple — complete step 9 of Traces of Chroma
Leaving the Easybreeze Holiday Resort area while indwelling an Asha will automatically eject the player.
Tutorials
- Asha
Strange Monetoo that exhibit both a passion and talent for pigments. They can be found around the Easybreeze Holiday Resort and display an affinity for spiritual perception that is unusual among their kin from other regions — they can even be indwelt via Spiritspeaking.
When you indwell one, you will be able to throw paintballs forward to attack or as a means of painting. Hold to enter aiming mode.
Asha can dash in short bursts. Hold the dash button to choose the desired destination for your dash. You can also hold Jump to jump higher. When an Asha is in the air, you can hold to aim their paintballs. While aiming, your Asha will remain suspended in midair until the next time you press the Jump button.
- Graffiti
Perhaps because it's still in its soft opening phase, the Easybreeze Holiday Resort still has many areas filled with white spots that are yet to be painted... These areas are called Graffiti Zones. You can use your paint pigments to freely change the color of these areas. If you were to fill certain Graffiti Zones with color, perhaps something wonderful might happen...
- Asha Speedrun
Issue commands and successfully guide the test-play Asha to the end of the route!
When a test-play Asha passes over a Springboard, instruct the Tepetlisaurus staff to lift the Springboard. When one passes a Paintable Signpost, command the Asha staff to paint the correct direction on the sign to keep them moving forward. If the test-play Asha reaches their destination, then the amusement's trial run will be viewed as a success!
- Small Chromafish
- Colossal Chromafish
- Trail of Chroma
- Dirty Marks
- Foamflower Fields
A mysterious ocean of flowers that is acutely affected by the Asha's pigments.
Use paintballs to color the Chroma Roller, which will absorb the power in the pigments and move forward, painting the plants and leaves in its path in a variety of hues while giving color to the flowers in the fields and causing them to bloom.
While coloring Foamflower Fields, don't forget to add some color to nearby decorations!
- "Airborne Asha"
In this competition, you must try your best to paint over your opponent's Graffiti Zone or the Graffiti Zone that hasn't been painted over with your own paint. You will emerge victorious if your paint covers a certain amount of the Graffiti Zone!
Balloons controlled by your opponent will throw Paint Bombs. When these explode, they will cover nearby Graffiti Zones in paint, handing your opponent an advantage.
However, if you use paintballs to shoot the Paint Bombs before they explode, you can cause them to prematurely explode and convert to your own color. Use this to your advantage and seize the upper hand!

Lore
Around five hundred years ago, a fierce battle against the Bakunawa occurred in the Mare Jivari, the westernmost part of Tenochtzitoc. To prevent the beast's corruption from spreading to the rest of Teyvat, the Anemo Archon, Venti, swept the Mare Jivari off of the timeline, inadvertently causing the souls of those who perished there to become imprisoned in the desolate land. Over time, some of these souls merged with the local Monetoo to create the Asha, which began appearing in Tenotchtzitoc around twenty years ago.[2][3]
Since they originate from human souls, Asha are more intelligent and sociable than the average Monetoo.[3] They also have stronger spiritual affinity than their kin, which allows the player to indwell them via Spiritspeaking.[4]
When Bennett was an infant, he, his parents (Aroni and Macani), and the rest of the Tecpatl's Flintblades Adventure Team were attacked by Abyssal monsters in the Mare Jivari. In order to ensure Bennett's survival, all four adults gave up their memories, emotions, and physical forms, transforming into Asha in the process. When Bennett later visited Tenochtzitoc (now known as the Easybreeze Holiday Resort) on vacation, his parents accompanied him as Asha, drawn to their son despite their missing memories. After Venti and the Pyro Archon, Mavuika, worked together to retrieve the trapped souls from the Mare Jivari, Aroni and Macani regained their memories and became able to shift between their Asha and human forms. Following a tearful reunion, they passed into the Night Kingdom, suggesting that it is possible for the human soul within an Asha to re-emerge and move on (at least, in some cases).[5]
Asha can also be created by human hands, as in the case of Alu, a priest of the Masters of the Night-Wind who created the Asha Zolton while researching a potential link between Asha and Saurian Inscriptions. In particular, Alu had experimented with transmitting memory through Phlogiston-based life, and eventually succeeded in transferring his own memories to Zolton through the use of his tribe's secret mnemonic arts. This granted Zolton heightened intelligence, human-like emotions, and the ability to "transmute memories into color," but also seems to have caused Alu to lose access to those memories.[6]

Trivia
Etymology
- In the game, two meanings are provided for the word "Asha" in Tenochtzitoc culture: "benevolent soul" and "ashes," the latter referring to the ashes blown over from the Mare Jivari.[3]
- The "benevolent soul" meaning likely derives from aashaa monetoo, meaning "good spirit" in the Algonquian languages. Monetoo (often spelled manitou) is the fundamental life force in the theologies of Algonquian peoples and the inspiration for the Monetoo.
