Thousand Winds Temple

The Thousand Winds Temple is a subarea located in Starfell Valley, Mondstadt.

It is an ancient amphitheater that has been used as an arena back in the Aristocratic Period, where slaves were made to fight each other for the satisfaction of the old nobles.

Viewpoint, Ancient Thousand Winds Temple

A collection of temple ruins that sits northeast of Mondstadt.
According to local legend, millennia ago this area was a temple for worshipping the Anemo God. Though it has been left to waste for centuries, leaving the ruins you see today. If you look closely at some of the stone pillars, you can still faintly make out some elegant carvings.
This long-forgotten symbol of commemoration is engraved with the maxim: "Wind brings the seeds of tales, time allows them to take root."

Lore

The Thousand Winds Temple was originally built by the people of Arcadia to worship Istaroth, the Ruler of Time.^[1] Following the fall of Arcadia, the temple was left in ruins.^[2]

During the Archon War, the Gunnhildr Clan settled among the ruins while seeking divine intervention against the relentless blizzards brought about by the conflict between Decarabian, the Lord of Storm, and Boreas, the Great Wolf King of the North. There, they constructed a small shrine dedicated to Istaroth and prayed for her protection. Instead, their prayers were answered by a small wind spirit named Barbatos.^[2]^[3]^[4]

While Barbatos was still a wind spirit, he had a chance encounter with Istaroth at the Thousand Winds Temple. After hearing his wish, she entrusted him with fragments of her power and authority.^[5]

After Barbatos ascended as the Anemo Archon, the Thousand Winds Temple was rebuilt and became a place of worship dedicated to both him and Istaroth. The weapons of the Sacrificial Series were once used as ceremonial implements during the temple's rituals. At some point, Istaroth was gradually forgotten for unknown reasons, and only Barbatos continued to be worshipped there.^[3]^[6]

During the era of Mondstadt's aristocracy, the temple was repurposed as an arena where slaves were forced to fight. It was eventually abandoned once again, leaving only the ruins that remain today.
