Elemental Absorption
Last updated 2025-11-02
Elemental Absorption is a mechanic found on certain Anemo abilities which allows the ability to absorb one of the four elements Pyro, Hydro, Electro, or Cryo on its first contact and become infused with that element, dealing DMG of that type in addition to Anemo DMG or providing additional effects based on the element absorbed.
Generally, only one element can be absorbed per use. If multiple elements are present, there is a priority for which element is absorbed. A select few abilities are able to absorb more than one element.
Additional elemental damage dealt by skills that have absorbed an element should not be confused with Swirl damage. Swirl damage is fixed damage based only on character level and Elemental Mastery, while additional elemental damage from elemental absorption is regular damage and is thus affected by the stats that normally affect damage, including ATK, CRIT Rate and DMG, and DMG Bonuses.
Elemental Sources
All characters, enemies, or objects affected by an elemental status can serve as sources of Elemental Absorption. This also includes self-applied elemental statuses. In Co-Op Mode, elements that teammates are affected with can also be absorbed.
Most character elemental abilities do not serve as sources of Elemental Absorption, with the only exception being Guoba Attack where Guoba himself is infused with Pyro when he spits fire.
The absorbed element can apply an aura or trigger a reaction. The number of times absorbed elements are applied will depend on the respective talent's Internal Cooldown.
Absorption Priority
In cases where more than one element can be absorbed, Elemental Absorption will follow a priority.
For Lynette and the Anemo Traveler, the priority is:
For other Anemo characters, the priority is:
Aura Check
When Elemental Absorption occurs, all targets in its AoE, including allies, will be hit with a damageless hit. This damageless hit is used by the game to determine what elements are available to be absorbed, and is therefore commonly referred to as Aura Check. Aura Checks can can trigger certain on-hit effects, such as those of Beidou's 4th Constellation Level and Thoma's 1st Constellation Level.
The AoE of Aura Check is often independent of the ability's other AoEs. For example, the Aura Check AoE for Sucrose's Elemental Burst is much smaller than the AoE in which DMG is dealt, and targets must be near the center of the Large Wind Spirit in order to cause Elemental Absorption.
