Odette Spessiva, formerly also known by the codename Lelek, is the Prima Ballerina of the Korolevskiy Troupe. She is also a member of the Fatui and is currently the favored candidate to inherit the Harbinger seat of her mentor, Signora. Having been forcibly inducted through circumstance into the Fatui as a child, she holds no loyalty towards the organization and is secretly a member of the Rokot.

Profile

Personality

Odette is a calm, reserved, and highly disciplined individual who rarely expresses her emotions openly. Although she can appear cold or distant, this demeanor stems more from her self-control and guarded nature than from arrogance. She is a perfectionist with an exceptionally strong work ethic, often pushing herself beyond her limits and disregarding fatigue or pain. Odette possesses a strong sense of duty and is accustomed to relying on herself rather than seeking help from others. Despite her outwardly stoic personality, she is caring, loyal, and attentive to those around her. She tends to express affection through practical actions and subtle gestures rather than through words or overt displays of emotion. Around people she trusts, she occasionally reveals a dry and understated sense of humor. Her experiences with loss and hardship have greatly shaped her personality, strengthening both her determination and her tendency to endure difficulties in silence. While her resilience and independence are among her greatest strengths, they can also lead her to shoulder burdens that she would be better off sharing with others. Beneath her composed exterior, Odette is ultimately a deeply sensitive person whose warmth is most often revealed through her actions rather than her words.

Appearance

Odette uses the medium female model. She is a petite woman with fair skin, ice blue hair highlighted by white streaks, and purple eyes subtly fading into a lighter pink.

In her character trailer - Odette: An Elegy For Innocence, she is seen swapping her gold heels for typical light beige pointe shoes during dance practice, with bows and pearls decorating the vamps.

History

Past

Odette Spessiva was born to a famed ballerina named Violetta[7] and an unnamed Fatuus. Her maternal line has produced ballerinas for generations, and even passed down a classic ballet titled Spirit Seeker within their family, a piece that is famous within Snezhnaya's performing arts.[6] After her father died in a mission when she was a child and her mother suffered an injury during a performance, Odette was inducted into the Fatui by Signora and was placed into the latter's division.[6] She quickly became one of Signora's most valued subordinates and underwent training under her tutelage that was harsh enough that she stopped feeling pain;[8] this caused her to be resentful of her mentor, inspiring her to practice her skills in ballet so she could spurn the Fatui.[8] Instead, she was caught in the act by Signora, but the Harbinger let her be.[8] Signora later departed to fulfill the Tsaritsa's mission, dying in Inazuma.[6] Odette learned of her death and felt some remorse; while many destroyed the Cor Ignis that she had given them, she decided to keep hers.[8] Five years later, she was rumored to be the ideal candidate to inherit her mentor's position.[9][6]

While a Fatui operative, Odette also joined the Rokot under the codename Lelek, since she did not agree with some of the Fatui's methods and wanted to help the people of Snezhnaya.[8]

Present

Odette was travelling across the tundra with her group for a Fatui mission when she heard of an incident at Svetloledovka, diverting to help the trapped miners there. She had finished preparations just as the Traveler was about to enter. Learning they had come with Sandrone, they entered the caves and saved the miners from an chimeric monster, driving it off. As the Traveler manifested the surrounding energies to create the Exaiphanes Blade, the cavern began to collapse, and while Odette lagged behind the Traveler, she elegantly dodged the rockfall and escaped. They then returned to Snezhnograd, where they ran into Tartaglia. The Traveler criticized both Harbingers for not opposing Project Stuzha despite knowing the suffering it caused, alarming Odette as she had never seen anyone openly criticize them. The two Harbingers, who understood where they were coming from, reassured them that they would still support their people. Odette then asked how they knew her, and Tartaglia reluctantly revealed that the Traveler was the one responsible for Signora's death. Seemingly dismayed by the news, Odette left the group under the pretense that she had some practice to do. While catching up with Alyosha, the two ran into Odette at Zolnyy. They bought as much kristall as they could and Odette used her Fatui connections to have them distributed to the local populace. Odette and Traveler then clears the tense atmosphere caused by the earlier talk about Signora, after which she was brought to Podvorye Restaurant to meet Paimon.[10]

When the Traveler returned to the restaurant and discovered Paimon was gone, having learned that Pierro had taken her, Odette brought them to Glupov. The Traveler asked her to stay outside, but Odette insisted on coming, revealing her identity as Lelek and was planning to have them brought in by force. As they fought the surprised Fatui and descended down the Armory Palace, Ronova's curse of death suddenly began to take effect. Before she was knocked unconscious, she took her Cor Ignis and placed it on the Traveler, allowing them to quickly return to reality. Her transgression was not unnoticed, and the Rokov had to negotiate clemency in order to have her set free, though the incident severely harmed their reputation and they decided to suspend her. Odette made her way to Signora's tomb and performed a dance for her, breaking the Cor Ignis at the end of her performance.[11]

Trivia

  • Odette's birthday, February 20, is a reference to Swan Lake, which premiered in 1877 on February 20 of the Julian calendar, which was in use in Russia at the time before switching over to the Gregorian calendar in 1918.
    • Odette will likely receive her first birthday mail and artwork on February 20, 2027, the 150th anniversary of Swan Lake's premiere.
  • The names of her 3rd-6th constellations reference the poem High Flight by John Gillespie Magee Jr.

Etymology

  • Odette is the name of the female protagonist of Swan Lake, a ballet composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. She was a princess who was cursed by a sorcerer to transform into a swan during the day, and the curse can only be broken if someone vows their true love solely to her. In the ballet production, the lead who plays the protagonist Odette also plays the antagonist, Odile.
  • The surname Spessiva (Russian: Спессива) is likely a reference to the Russian prima ballerina Olga Spessivtseva, whose surname was often shortened to Spessiva when traveling outside of Russia.
