Sigurd

Last updated 2026-03-23

Sigurd is a quest-exclusive NPC who first appears in the World Quest The Bell of Mourning Echoes and can be challenged as a Local Legend after.

The Artifact Set Long Night's Oath was previously Sigurd's relics before his death, and three of them are found as part of The Bell of Mourning Echoes.

Profile

Sigurd was the previous Starshyna of the Lightkeepers who wielded a longsword.[2][3][Note 1] He was renowned for his bravery and for fighting to the very end. His bell was believed to restrain or repel monsters.[4]

Appearance

Sigurd is a pale man with a medium build, purple eyes and short golden hair. He wears one of the standard uniforms of the Lightkeepers. It consists of a black long coat, black trousers, gray knee-high boots and a black glove on the right hand, while the left hand is bandaged. The uniform is adorned with silver ornaments, such as the Lightkeeper's Pledge, and features accents of dark purple fabric. Additionally, he wears an ushanka with the Nightingale's Tail Feather attached to it. His Nod-Krai Vision or Moon Wheel is attached to his back.

Unlike other Ratnik, Sigurd's uniform is dirtied with bright purple Wild Hunt corrosion, which near-completely corrupts his body once he becomes a Wilderness Ghoul.

Story

During his time with the Lightkeepers, Sigurd was on close terms with Chicherin,[5] and the two of them saved a young Malusha, whom Chicherin eventually took in.[6]

Sigurd was active up until about a decade ago,[1] when he disappeared during a great battle against the Wild Hunt which also saw the deaths of Illuga's family and village. The surviving Lightkeepers built an empty grave in his honor northeast of the Barrowmoss Barrens.[7][8] After that battle, his body was torn apart, leaving him to wander the Abyss. The Abyss's influence, combined with his unyielding resolve to defend his homeland, eventually corrupted him into the very thing he once fought against. His lingering will to protect Nod-Krai from the Wild Hunt prevents him from finding peace.[9]

Nikita would succeed him as Starshyna.

Present Day

During the World Quest The Bell of Mourning Echoes, the Traveler and Paimon encounter Sigurd in various regions across Nod-Krai while fighting Wasteland Wild Hunt enemies near Tideseal Stones. With Sigurd's aid, the Traveler clears the areas and retrieves three artifacts. Paimon then suggests bringing them to the Lightkeepers in Nasha Town, where they meet Lushne and Sukhovykh. The two identify the relics as Sigurd’s belongings and reveal that he continues to fight the Wild Hunt even after death. They direct the Traveler to take the artifacts to Sigurd's grave. There, the Traveler lays the artifacts to rest.

Afterward, the Traveler can choose to challenge Sigurd in combat. During the fight, he reveals his true form as a corrupted Wilderness Ghoul. Upon defeat, Sigurd utters that "it’s finally over," implying he can at last find rest.

During the Hidden Exploration Objective, Secrets of the Tideseal Stones, either Flins or Illuga can discover Sigurd's traces near the Tideseal Stones and witness him fighting against the Wild Hunt. When they pay their respects at his grave, Sigurd confronts them, leading them to battle and defeat him.

Description

A valiant warrior who resisted the dark calamity in ancient days. Though his life's spark has been extinguished, his unbending will has yet to fade, and those who swore to become hunters of the Wild Hunt continue his endless battle even today. The dark abyss's corrosion has seeped into his marrow, causing him to lose his way, but the desire to defend hearth and home will surely reignite, reawakening him to continue a bitter, eternal battle.
