Chapter I

Chapter I, titled Dusk, Girls, Battleship, is a Story pertaining to the mainline narrative, specifically Part 1.
The segment serves as an introduction to the game's core combat and platforming mechanics.
Short Summary
Selene, a powerful Anti-Entropy battleship, is heading straight towards Sapphire, a metropolis with around 30 million people in it, totally unmanned. St. Freya Valkyries Kiana Kaslana, Raiden Mei, and Bronya Zaychik are tasked with gaining control of the aircraft and stopping it from crashing into the city while their instructor Murata Himeko is providing aid via comms. The mission is completed successfully, but not without twists and turns involving the dormant 3rd Herrscher inside Mei, Bronya's brain chip going haywire, and a mysterious letter hinting at Kiana's future.

Kiana Kaslana attempts to close her distance to a powerful battleship called Selene that is on a crash-course towards Sapphire while killing zombies and Honkai Beasts as instructed by Murata Himeko over comms.

Kiana on top of a drone
In her pursuit, Kiana crashes the battle drone she was on into a building. She makes her way through the rubble full of zombies towards a new drone with Himeko's help. Having boarded it, Kiana defends herself from a bunch of small enemies. The small fries suddenly retreat and Kiana's greeted by an Emperor-class Honkai Beast. Fighting it is inadvisable as Kiana's pretty close to Selene already, but she nonetheless attempts to defeat the beast, which suddenly retreats before she can do enough damage to it. Once close enough to Selene, Kiana abandons the drone and boards the battleship.

"We'll get the strength of a hundred warriors if Mei's around!"
Himeko informs Kiana that Mei's already on the ship and in position. Upon hearing this, instead of adhering to their original battle plan, Kiana decides to go where Mei's located, and the two meet. With Mei around, Kiana receives "the strength of a hundred warriors".

Selene's full of traps
Kiana and Mei make their way through a bunch of enemies toward their destination. On their way, they find a terminal controlling some of the laser traps on the ship and disable it.

Dismissing the threat of Honkai Beasts can easily prove to be dangerous
The duo reaches the aft of the ship and the Emperor-class Honkai Beast Kiana encountered earlier reemerges, easily overpowering the two due to its transformation skill. 3rd Herrscher temporarily takes control of Mei as the latter grows desperate to protect Kiana at all costs. Kiana overhears a mechanical voice warning of the Herrscher activity and system restrictions that are now activated.
Somewhere else Bronya hacks into the ship's systems and arrives at the aft afterward. Enemy corpses scatter across the aft and Kiana is lying unconscious in Mei's arms. Mei soon collapses in Bronya's arms.

Selene's firewall is no match for Bronya
Bronya briefs Himeko on what has happened while Kiana, who has regained her composure, is taking care of Mei. Kiana asks Himeko about the restrictions on Mei but is unable to get an answer as their mission doesn't allow delays. Kiana carries Mei along as Bronya defeats enemies inside the ship and hacks into its systems to unlock the path leading deeper inside it.

Multiple platforms allow for travel between the floors
Mei awakens and is brought up to speed by Bronya. According to Bronya, who used to be involved with Anti-Entropy, the ship's clearly related to the organization.
Bronya continues to hack their way into the ship while defeating enemies on the way as Kiana carries Mei on her back. After a while, Mei asks to rejoin combat but is asked not to over-stress herself by Bronya who wants to return Mei the favor of saving Bronya from Anti-Entropy in the past by taking care of any troubles ahead.

Project Bunny's presence is reassuring at times like these
Bronya hacks into a mech stationed on the ship, intent on making exploration easier for the team as Mei isn't in perfect shape. Excited Kiana leaps into the mech and smashes enemy mechs, stranded zombies, and Honkai Beasts into pieces. Her fun is stopped once she accidentally activates the mech's self-destruct mode. The trio now has to go on foot, but not for long as another mech is found on the side. Having taken control of it, they effortlessly make it to the master controller.

Bronya's eyes change and she no longer recognizes her teammates
Himeko is contacted again after the girls get to the master controller unit as it suspiciously lacked any standard security measures. The unit contained a mail addressed to Kiana stating that Selene is hers again after 16 years and prompting her to find four "keys" referred to as Lightning of Conquest, Fire of Affliction, Storm of Desire, and Death of Tranquility. The mail also contained a hint to unlocking the bridge, the password to which was Kiana's birthday—the 7th of December.
Having gained control of the ship, its trajectory is changed to St. Freya High where they plan to look deeper into the meaning behind the mail. However, just as the mission seems to be over, Bronya loses control of a chip implanted in her brain and attacks her teammates. She is subdued in combat by Mei and Kiana and returns to normal. Bronya asks Himeko to arrange check-up exams for her at the school to which the trio returns safely.
