Weathering Curse

The Weathering Curse is a hereditary curse passed down from Graphia to all her descendants.
Overview
The daughter shall be stripped of her flesh, trapped unto death within her bed. The son shall be peeled of his soul, left to wander the wastelands.
The affliction affects male and female descendants of Graphia differently. Women experience physical deterioration, manifesting as colored cracks on their bodies; their skin cracks and splits akin to a decaying painting, peeling away layer by layer until they turn to dust. Men experience mental torture until they lose the ability to recognize themselves and succumb to madness.[2] Few descendants live past the age of thirty.[3]
There are three hypotheses about its cause: the Sacrifice Theory, in which Graphia traded her own life and her descendants' lives in exchange to hide Planarcadia within the World in Canvas; the Corrosion Theory, in which the corrosion of Destruction took root in Graphia when she was attacked by the Antimatter Legion; and the Genetic Theory, in which her genes contain hereditary material that increases the probability of developing the curse after a certain age.[2] The true origin of the curse was a punishment laid on Graphia by Asat Pramad for betraying him and turning against the Destruction.[1]
Treatment
The Weathering Curse has no cure. The Graphia family has tried multiple unsuccessful methods to cure it, which are listed below:[2]
- Conservative treatment
- Replacing the weathered body and organs
- Using imagenesis to fill the weathered fissures
- Using Aha's authority to eradicate the curse
- The Mourning Actors' technology
- The Xianzhou Alliance's medical treatment
- The IPC's genetic treatment
- Help from the Elixir Seekers
Despite there being no conventional way to cure the curse, it can be passed on to another person who is willing to bear it. When Murata Hiro won the Phantasmoon Games and asked Aha to cure his condition, Aha told him that THEY could instead transfer the curse to someone else. Unwilling to burden another person with his fate, Murata Hiro quietly disappeared, leaving nothing behind. Motoko would later learn of this method from a figure on the Phantasmoon following the events of Bloodstained Games, and used her wish to receive the curse from Himeko, dying in her place.[4]
