Zeitlind, nicknamed Lind is a quest-exclusive NPC who appears in the World Quest Series A Long Day in the Mountains.

Profile

Zeitlind is a young woman from Mondstadt who is trying to uncover the fate of her older sister Raumhilda who disappeared from the sanatorium in Windrest Peak. She is often mistaken for her sister as they are the spitting image of each other. Others describe her as steady and reserved.^[2]

Appearance

Zeitlind is a fair-skinned young woman with long white hair and light purple eyes. Her hair is brushed to her sides and braided at the back, a bow holding it in place. A pale purple four-petaled flower adorns her hair.

She wears a white shirt with puffed upper sleeves and a dark blue collar, a brown waistcoat, a muted blue knee-length skirt, white leggings, and dark blue shoes.

Story

Zeitlind and her older sister Raumhilda had a peaceful childhood with both parents present. While Zeitlind was more introverted, Raumhilda was outgoing and often read to her before she could read herself.^[3][4] After the loss of their parents, their lives became more difficult, and both struggled with their personalities.^[3] The sisters found comfort in books, imagining distant worlds and sharing a longing to explore Teyvat together.^[2]

As they grew older, Raumhilda became engaged, but her fiancé, burdened by a hereditary illness, eventually left her. His departure devastated her, leading to her admission to the sanatorium at Windrest Peak.^[3] During her stay, she wrote letters to Zeitlind to pass the time,^[5] and in her final messages she mentioned that the sanatorium was about to close and that she would be going somewhere far away.^[1] Soon afterward, she disappeared, leaving behind only a grave bearing the epitaph "One lifetime doesn't count."^[6]

Present time

Believing her sister to be dead, Zeitlind travels to the abandoned sanatorium to retrace her sister's steps. Bringing several of Raumhilda's belongings in a suitcase, she visits her grave to say goodbye. There, she encounters the Traveler and Paimon, who agree to help her investigate. Their search eventually leads them to the Temple of Space, where Istoria reveals that Raumhilda had once been there and that an entity named Melanta has long been terrorizing the temple's inhabitants following his creator's disappearance.^[1]

When the items from Zeitlind's suitcase are suddenly stolen, the Traveler and Paimon help her recover them:^[1] At Luyang Academy, they find a photograph of Raumhilda taken in front of Wangshu Inn during a trip to Liyue.^[6] In the Mahavaipulya Chamber, they discover the letters that Raumhilda wrote from the sanatorium.^[5] Lastly, at the Desert Pavilion, they reclaim an amethyst brooch that once belonged to her. During their search, the group also frees the temple's inhabitants from Melanta's punishment.

After recovering the three items, Istoria expresses his belief that Raumhilda might still be alive and explains that confronting Melanta is the only way to leave the temple.^[3] Suddenly, the group is cast into the Apathic Interval, but manages to escape.^[7] Afterwards, Istoria reveals that Raumhilda had also once been sent to the temple and, upon witnessing the suffering caused by Melanta, chose to confront him herself. Although Istoria tried to stop her, Raumhilda sacrificed her memories to create the Path to the Heavens and met Melanta in the Atrium of Suchness. No one knew what the two discussed, but afterward Melanta destroyed part of the Path and Raumhilda departed the temple.^[2]

As the group seeks to confront Melanta themselves, it becomes clear that restoring the Path to the Heavens requires someone to sacrifice their memories once more. Though Istoria volunteers, Zeitlind ultimately chooses to take on this burden herself. Following the same path her sister once did, she allows the group to reach Melanta and bring an end to his tyranny.^[2]

Before being defeated by the Traveler, Melanta reveals that he and Raumhilda failed to reach an accord back then, and that she promised her younger sister would one day return and defeat him.^[2]

After the temple is freed, Zeitlind prepares to return to the surface, knowing she will lose her memories in the process. Before leaving, she chooses her own epitaph: "To be continued." Upon returning to the sanatorium, her memories fade, and the Traveler and Paimon help her begin anew while reminding her that her sister is still somewhere out in the world.^[2]

Trivia

• It is strongly implied that Zeitlind and Raumhilda both struggled with their mental health. Zeitlind is shown to have a pessimistic outlook on life^[8] and repeatedly speaks of being at the end of her journey.^[9][10]
• Paimon and Istoria refer to Zeitlind by the nickname "Lind" several times during A Long Day in the Mountains, despite only knowing her for a short time.

Etymology

• Zeitlind's name is a combination of the German word "Zeit" ("time") and "lind" ("gentle," often used to describe wind).
• In contrast, her sister Raumhilda's name derives from "Raum" ("space"), suggesting a thematic parallel to Istaroth and Asmoday, the Shades of Time and Space. This is further reflected in their roles, as Raumhilda disappears while Zeitlind continues searching for her.
