The Hoshimi Family is a notable family of powerful warriors in Zenless Zone Zero.
Overview
Currently based in New Eridu, the Hoshimi Family consists of Fox Thirens traditionally practiced in martial arts. Their current most prominent members are Hoshimi Souichirou, the seventh-generation head of the family,[Assumption 1] and his daughter Hoshimi Miyabi, Void Hunter and Chief of the Hollow Special Operations Section 6.
History
The Hoshimi family rose to fame through martial prowess and the power of the cursed katana Tailless, forged by the first head of the family.[1] The third-generation head of the family, "Swordmaster", became a member of the first generation of Void Hunters,[2] and several other heads of the family made significant contributions to the city. They were exceptional and unique warriors, with them upholding the family's reputation. However, after a certain point, they stopped prioritizing martial skills and involved themselves in the city management using their political power:[3] it was with Hoshimi Miyabi, the youngest Void Hunter in New Eridu, that the trend got inverted, with her becoming a great warrior without relying on the power of Tailless; the only moment where she had lost control of the katana was as a kid, during the Fall of the Old Capital, after she had to use it to kill her corrupted mother out of mercy.[4]

Assumptions

YouTube. , the first generation of Void Hunters is dated to around a hundred years ago in Phaethon's Story, New: Eridan Sunset (B), Episode 9: Left Behind Keepsake, placing "Swordmaster"'s life about four generations before the present. As explained in Phaethon's Story, A Storm of Falling Stars (B), Episode 1: Bringer's Scheme, mere ownership of Tailless makes you a Swordmaster, with previous heads of the family having used the sword without having the skill that the title suggests. However, Souichirou does not own the sword, while Miyabi has not inherited the title of Hoshimi family head due to her mother's untimely passing. This would make Souichirou the seventh-generation head, while Miyabi is the seventh-generation Swordmaster.
