Dex

Last updated 2026-06-09

Dex, full name Dexter,[2] is a juvenile Watcher, the same type of being as Nihilita and Melanta.[1] It[1] is a quest-exclusive NPC who appears in the World Quest Series A Long Day in the Mountains.

Profile

Dex is an immature Watcher of the Temple of Space, who has some control over its functions but lacks certain authorities.[3]

After Nihilita left the temple, Dex gained the ability to transport people between Teyvat and the Temple of Space. However, due to his juvenile nature, it cannot return any of the Uplifted that were selected to be brought to the temple.[1]

Appearance

Dex takes on the appearance of a Watcher's right hand with an eye on the back of it. The hand consists of red and white material with golden jewelry on the nails and around the wrist.

Powers and Abilities

Dex can manipulate Spacelike Vectors in the Temple of Space to move, rotate, distort and stretch objects. It can control or defeat Segment-Domain Keepers and Maranasati Caskets by seizing their cores. He can also fold special pages and restore spaces that were previously folded in the Mahavaipulya Chamber, restore spaces trapped inside paintings at Luyang Academy, and use quicksand in the Desert Pavilion to construct a variety of structures.

Dex can also move freely within the Apathic Interval traversing the surface made out of red cubes.[4]

Story

Dex was likely created by Nihilita, as it first appears when Nihilita entrusts it to Raumhilda some time before the present. Raumhilda takes Dex with her to the Temple of Space and Dex gets to known all the uplifted people who dwell there.[3]

During the World Quest Series A Long Day in the Mountains, Nihilita entrusts Dex to the Traveler in order to help them free the Temple of Space from Melanta's tyranny. Dex uses his abilities to free the trapped people in the temple, fight the Keepers and restore the area. In the Apathic Interval, Dex defeats the Maranasati Casket and collects Deathmuse Chards with which he breaks the Traveler, Istoria, and Zeitlind out. Dex also supports the team on the way to facing Melanta and witnesses the confrontation.

After the Temple of Space is freed of Melanta's influence, Istoria implores Dex to remember the kindness the temple's inhabitants have shown him.[3]
