Dialogue
First Part
Now that she has been "born anew," what will she choose to do next...?
- (Pass time)
- Paimon: Time to meet up with Sandrone! Wonder if Citlali was able to pinpoint the location...
- Paimon: Well, we should know soon! Let's just hope it all works out!
- (Approach the marked location on the Wingalet's deck)
- Paimon: Citlali sure drank a lot last night, huh... Wonder if she's even awake...
- Columbina: Good morning.
- Paimon: Waah! C—Columbina! You, uh, sure know how to make an entrance... What are you doing here?
- Columbina: We just finished filming a last-minute scene, so I came up to get some fresh air.
- Columbina: The others are still down below discussing what the final scene should be.
- Paimon: You mean, how it should end?
- Columbina: Yes. They're torn between whether the heroine should reunite with her old friend or not.
- Paimon: Ah... Because the whole point is that she came to her friend's homeland to search for her, right? Paimon almost forgot the plot...
- Columbina: Yes. Director Furina and Miss Chiori think a tragic ending where the two never meet would be more poignant.
- Columbina: But Director Xavier thinks having the two reunite would make for a more touching and heartwarming ending.
What do you think?- Columbina: Me? I... I'm not sure...
- Columbina: On a personal level, of course I want to see her again... of course I want to experience that moment where we reunite... even if it's just for the Kameras.
- Columbina: But that means... an actor would have to take her place, and that makes me feel...
- Paimon: ...
Don't stress about that for now.- Columbina: Huh?
- Paimon: Yeah! Don't look so worried! Making a film is supposed to be fun!
- Paimon: B—Besides, it's all gonna work out! You can trust Paimon on that!
- Columbina: Work out... how?
- Paimon: Uh, well... Y'know...
It'll all get tied up in a nice little bow. You'll see.- Paimon: Yep! Exactly!
- Columbina: Hehe... Okay. I trust you.
- Columbina: I'll just focus on having fun for now.
- Furina: Well, well, look who we have here! (Traveler) and Paimon!
- Chiori: Aw, the lighting specialist and clapper loader that never were...
- Paimon: Uh, yeah... We kinda went AWOL didn't we. Sorry about that.
- Chiori: Hehe, seriously, don't worry about it. Everything's going smoothly on our end, so just do what you need to do.
Thanks for understanding...
We'll definitely make it up to you...- Furina: You seem to be in better spirits now, Miss Columbina. I apologize if our earlier discussion put you on the spot...
- Columbina: It's okay, I'm fine now. (Traveler) and Paimon talked me through it.
- Furina: So, what are your thoughts on the ending then? Should we have them reunite or not?
- Columbina: We should... tie everything up in bows.
- Furina: ...Huh?
- (Enter the Wingalet)
- Paimon: Citlali, we're here!
- Citlali: Oh, right on time.
- Paimon: Well, yeah... We weren't the ones who drank our weight in alcohol yesterday.
- Citlali: Heh, what? Are you suggesting granny can't handle her liquor? It takes a lot more than that to get me drunk.
- Paimon: Really? 'Cause, uh, you stopped making sense after a while...
- Citlali: Uh... Did I? Huh, news to me. I didn't say anything... too crazy, I hope.
- Paimon: Let's see... You spent half an hour badmouthing Ororon, half an hour complaining about work, an hour talking about light novels... and, uh, Paimon kinda fell asleep after that.
- Marionette: ...Are they gone?
- Paimon: Hm? Oh, the crew? Yeah, we bumped into them on the deck, but they just left.
- Paimon: Wait but, now that everything with your core is sorted out, what's stopping you from seeing Columbina? She misses you a lot!
- Marionette: I... I just want to deal with this mess first. Besides, this is the perfect chance to make her jump for once. I have to plan it out more.
- Marionette: But, enough about that. Were you able to pinpoint the location of our target?
- Citlali: Of course. When Granny Itztli promises something, she delivers!
- Marionette: Great, let's see...
- Marionette: The Morte Region... Wait, this is the Tower of Gestalt.
- Marionette: The place the souls were severed... Is that the source of the resentment? Or is it the Narzissenkreuz Ordo in general?
- Citlali: Let me come with. This thing's movement isn't fixed. If it's not at this location when we get there, I can use a ritual to summon it.
- Marionette: You've already gone to more than enough trouble...
- Citlali: I don't mind. These old bones have nothing better to do anyway. Summoning a spirit isn't going to do me in.
- Citlali: (Besides, if I don't go, they'll just have more inside jokes I can't join in on!)
- Marionette: Alright then. I appreciate it.
- Paimon: Hah, there's no time to lose. Let's head out!
- (The player is teleported outside of the Tower of Gestalt)
- (Enter the Tower of Gestalt)
- Marionette: Huh, no sign of it so far...
- Citlali: Should I start the summoning ritual?
- Marionette: Let's drain the water from this floor of the tower first. It'll make it easier to move around.
- Paimon: Wait, we can do that?
- Marionette: Of course. Alain and Rene both saw the future that awaited Fontaine, and even shared a few methods for waterproofing buildings. The principle behind it is...
- Marionette: ...Ahem, not important. Just unlock the mechanisms in the order I tell you.
- (Approach the marked location after draining the water)
- Citlali: Ready?
- Marionette: Yeah. When this thing appears, I'll try talking to the souls inside.
- Marionette: But, more than likely, they've already been driven to madness. If communication fails, we'll have a battle on our hands.
- Paimon: In that case, Paimon better find a hiding spot.
- Marionette: If a fight does break out, I should be the one to deliver the final blow. Trust me on that.
- Citlali: Understood.
- Citlali: Alright, I need quiet.
- (The floor around Citlali begins to glow as she starts her ritual)
- Citlali: ...Wandering spirits drifting along the tides, hear me now. Broken souls, silenced, torn apart, and forsaken, follow the traces of the past and return to us.
- Citlali: ...Let resentment recognize resentment. Let vile entities be drawn together, and in this place, take form once more!
- (Traveler): ...
- (The Traveler looks over at Paimon, who is hiding behind a nearby box)
- Paimon: ...
- Marionette: (...What now? Is that it?)
- Marionette: (Ugh... This is exactly why I deal in math not magic. How are we supposed to know what stage the spell is at? It's like there's no logic to speak of.)
- Marionette: (Mechanical science is so much easier to—)
- Marionette: ...!
- Citlali: Watch out!
- (An enraged red Hydro Tulpa appears behind them)
- Wandering Souls' Resentment: ...!
- Marionette: Hey, you! Or whoever's inside of you... I need you to listen to me.
- Marionette: I'm a descendant of Fontaine's "Lord-Artificer," Alain Guillotin. I can make you whole again and return you to the Ley Lines. You just need to work with me here...
- Wandering Souls' Resentment: ...!
- Paimon: Sandrone!
- Marionette: Tch... Looks like talking this out is off the table.
- Marionette: Alright, plan B... Time to blow off some steam!
- (During the fight)
- Wandering Souls' Resentment: Wretched... Narzissenkreuz Ordo!
- Wandering Souls' Resentment: Curse you... Rene! Jakob!
- Marionette: You're cursing out the wrong person. I didn't... even... know them!
- Wandering Souls' Resentment: ...!
- (When Wandering Souls' Resentment reaches one-third of its max HP)
- Wandering Souls' Resentment: Die... All of them must die!
- Marionette: Most of them already did, but you still have a chance to return to the Ley Lines and reunite with your families!
- Marionette: Just... work with me here!
- (A cinematic plays)
- Cutscene's Travel Log summary:
-
- (The corrupted creature slams its "hand" downwards, spraying the group with water)
- (The Traveler flicks their sword and steps forward, but Sandrone holds out her arm to stop them)
- Wandering Souls' Resentment: Death to Jakob, Rene! The wretched Narzissenkreuz Ordo!
- Wandering Souls' Resentment: And... you!
- (The creature lunges towards Sandrone, who merely sighs in exasperation)
- Marionette: I told you I'm not like them
- Marionette: I'm stronger
- Marionette: Inverted world-formula — "Reversion"
- (Sandrone touches the creature, causing it to separate into a myriad of individual souls)
- Marionette: Be at peace among the tides
- Marionette: Lost souls
- (Cinematic ends)
- Paimon: ...Is it over?
- Marionette: Yep. Told you it'd be a piece of cake.
- Citlali: How did you do that back there?
- Marionette: That creature was nothing special. Add a bunch of souls with nowhere to go, a touch of malicious energy, a few impurities, and a whole lot of resentment, and that's what you get.
- Marionette: All I did was separate the original souls from the rest of the filth, allowing them to be accepted by the current rules of the world.
- Marionette: The principle behind the world-formula is "divergence." Starting from a point of origin, it deconstructs and reconstructs the possibilities of the world to find certain answers.
- Marionette: So, it would follow that reverse-calculating the world-formula allows us to achieve convergence and restoration instead. Using the numerological array, I was able to do just that.
- Marionette: It's similar to the concept of homological reduction in mathematics. I reduced them to the basic, fundamental essence of their being, without changing their underlying nature.
- Marionette: That meant... Ugh, never mind. Judging by all the blank stares, I'm guessing you don't actually care.
- Citlali: I think I finally understand how outlanders feel when I ramble on about Shaman stuff...
- Paimon: P—Point is, it was super impressive! You really are amazing, Sandrone!
- Marionette: Hah, you're just realizing that now?
- (The Traveler gives Sandrone two thumbs up)
I'd expect nothing less from the Unraveller of All Reason...- Marionette: Ahem, enough about that!
- Marionette: W—We should get going! I'll go reset the mechanisms inside the tower. See you back on land!
- (The player is teleported to the surface)
- (After the transition)
- Marionette: Well, that's one old mess for the books. Glad to have that over and done with.
- Marionette: Feels nice to do a good deed every once in a while.
- Paimon: You helped everyone out a bunch in Nod-Krai, too! Kinda seems like you're just a good person at heart!
- Marionette: Heh, I wouldn't be so sure. I'll be heading back to the Fatui soon enough. You two are too trusting sometimes...
Well, at the very least, we know we can trust you.- Marionette: Hmph, fine. Just don't say I didn't warn you when it comes back to bite you.
- Citlali: Well, where to next? Back to the ship?
- Paimon: Yeah! Your personal business, the Narzissenkreuz thing, it's all resolved. That means you can "see the people that need seeing" now, right Sandrone?
- Paimon: Everyone's gonna be so happy you're back!
- Marionette: Heh... You wouldn't catch me dead admitting to this before, but... Yeah. I really have missed everyone.
- Marionette: Columbina's a special case, though! This time, I'm definitely getting her back for all her annoying antics over the years!
- (Sandrone smirks to herself as she plots her "revenge")
- (A cinematic plays)
- Cutscene's Travel Log summary:
-
- (The Traveler, Paimon, and Citlali trail after Sandrone as she mutters to herself)
- Marionette: She'll sense me coming from a mile off
- Marionette: How am I gonna...
- (A glowing circle suddenly appears at Sandrone's feet, and she disappears before their eyes)
- (Sandrone looks up to find herself in an unfamiliar lunar-themed space)
- Columbina: ...Sandrone?
- (Sandrone turns to see Columbina approaching her cautiously, eyes wide)
- Columbina: Is it really you?
- (Columbina runs towards her, but hesitates as she gets close)
- Columbina: You're back? You didn't tell me
- Columbina: You avoided me. Why?
- Marionette: I...
- (Columbina reaches for Sandrone, who grabs her hand, pulling her into a tight embrace)
- Columbina: ...Sandrone?
- (Columbina tries to pull away, but Sandrone only hugs her tighter)
- Marionette: Now we're even
- Columbina: I missed you
- Columbina: So much
- (Sandrone turns her head slightly in embarrassment)
- Marionette: That makes one of us
- Marionette: Idiot
- (Sandrone laughs lightly)
- Marionette: I'm here
- Marionette: Columbina
- Columbina: Hm...
- (Columbina smiles contently, leaning into the hug, then she quietly teleports them to the filming site, landing right in front of Xavier's Kamera)
- (When Charlotte notices them, she quickly snaps a photo of their reunion)
- (Cinematic ends)
- (After the transition)
- Columbina: ...
- Columbina: Um, Sandrone...
- Marionette: Don't ruin the moment. Or I'll start thinking about how you teleported me to a random location after I explicitly told you to stop doing that...
- Columbina: U—Um...
- Xavier: Aaand... Scene! Bravo! Bravo! We got it! This is exactly the ending I was hoping for!
- (Sandrone finally opens her eyes and notices the onlookers)
- Marionette: ...Huh!?
- Furina: Where did you just go, Miss Columbina? You vanished, and then the next second you were back, hugging this, um... new friend here.
- Marionette: Th—That... was all... on... Kamera...?
- Chiori: Yeah. Well, the Kamera was already rolling, and it happened so fast, so... Yeah.
- Furina: Hold on, this must be...
- Columbina: Yep, my best friend. The one I was looking for. I never thought I'd actually get to see her again. I'm just... so happy.
- (Columbina smiles obliviously as Sandrone fumes in anger behind her)
- Columbina: Plus, the film got a happy ending too. It's all thanks to you, Sandrone.
- Columbina: ...Sandrone?
- Marionette: You couldn't stop being annoying for one second!? Columbinaaaa!
- (Sandrone grabs Columbina by the shoulders and shakes her vigorously. The quest ends on an iris shot as Columbina frowns at the Kamera)
Second Part
The film premiere is a success, and she seems to have changed much...
- (After the transition)
-
- (In the Opera Epiclese, everyone watches the film. Columbina pokes Sandrone's cheek, who swats her hand away in response. The film's credits roll and the audience leaves the Opera Epiclese afterwards)
- Furina: As expected, going to the opera house is the true way to enjoy a film!
- Chiori: You get to see the audience's reaction in real time too. The ending seemed to be received quite well.
- Paimon: Paimon can't believe you let us include that in the final cut, Sandrone!
- Furina: You even agreed to help us reshoot a couple of shots! Thanks a million!
- Marionette: Hmph, most of it was caught on Kamera already, so it's not like I had much of a choice. Besides, no film I'm in is going to be anything less than perfect.
- Columbina: Hehe...
- Marionette: ...What are you laughing at?
- Columbina: Nothing. It was just interesting to see us on screen together.
- Columbina: I'm glad this moment is going to be preserved forever.
- Xavier: Just a pity we didn't take home the Furina Award this time around...
- Chiori: Well, artistic films can rarely compete with commercial ones. You should have prepared yourself for this the minute you changed the script.
- Xavier: Haha... True...
- Charlotte: Ooo-ooo-ooh? Did I hear someone mention the Furina Award?
- Paimon: C'mon. Don't gloat.
- Charlotte: Hehe, I won't. Our crew winning the Furina Award was a team effort, after all.
- Charlotte: Costume design, script adaptation... Ooh! And the practical effects were so realistic! The flames and explosions even made me jump while we were filming!
- Chevreuse: A lot of the effects were based on actual items the Special Patrol confiscated from criminals. Who knew they'd serve another purpose, right?
- Citlali: But it turned out amazing! Really brought the thrilling scenes from the novel to life. Fontaine's film industry is seriously impressive.
- Paimon: Which film did you vote for, Citlali?
- Citlali: Uh, isn't it obvious? "Great Detective Hurlock," of course! That's the whole reason I'm here!
- Charlotte: You all should be proud, though! A lot of critics are saying really good things about your film too!
- Charlotte: Longing and loss, searching for something even after it's gone... It's a film that makes you think about life, and how important it is to explore those themes!
- Furina: Well, that is what the art of storytelling is for.
- Paimon: Hehe, watching a film with friends is so much fun! There's so much to talk about!
- Charlotte: Let's throw a celebration later then! We're all old friends. We can find a place and chat to our hearts' content!
- Marionette: How about the Wingalet?
- Furina: That's perfect! Friends and family are more than welcome too! So, if you want to bring people, don't be shy!
- Marionette: You all can head over first and make yourselves at home. I'll bring over some refreshments in a bit.
- Marionette: I just have one more stop to make first...
- Columbina: Can I come?
Us too?- Marionette: Hmph, fine. Not like you'd listen if I tried to stop you.
- (Approach the marked location in Alain Guillotin's Resting Place)
- Paimon: Wait... Is this...?
- Marionette: Yes. Here lies "Lord-Artificer," Alain Guillotin. This is his grave.
- Paimon: ...
- Marionette: I'm sorry... Alain. I'm sorry this is the first time I've been back since leaving Fontaine. I should have come to see you more often.
- Marionette: I got your "gift." Heh... I even cleaned up one of the Narzissenkreuz Ordo's messes along the way.
- Marionette: Our home is just as quiet and warm as it always was. The flowers in the garden are still thriving. I'll make sure to tend to them more often from now on.
- Marionette: Pulonia... received irreparable damage in battle. I should have taken better care of your invention. I'm sorry.
- Marionette: Pulonia was family to me... just like you.
- Marionette: You always said I was a fast learner... but I'm not so sure. It took me far too long to learn the things that truly matter...
- Marionette: I never said this to you back then, but... thank you for creating me, for giving me the chance to experience life.
- (When Sandrone looks up, her eyes are filled with tears)
- Marionette: Being your family meant everything to me. Absolutely everything...
- Columbina: ...
- Columbina: Can I say a few words as well, Sandrone?
- Marionette: Hmph... don't need my permission...
- Columbina: Hello, Mr. Guillotin. I'm Sandrone's friend.
- Columbina: You don't need to worry. Sandrone is doing great.
- Columbina: Not only is she a brilliant scholar, she's made a whole bunch of friends too. And she takes great care of them.
- Marionette: As if...
- Columbina: She'll never admit it, but she's always there when her friends need it the most. I wouldn't even be here without her.
- Columbina: So, if she ever needs help, her friends will be there in a heartbeat, including me. That's what best friends are for.
- Marionette: Columbina...
- Columbina: What else... Oh! She likes drinking bitter coffee, listening to piano music when she can't sleep... Turns out she even likes giving hugs...
- Marionette: No, wait! Don't tell him all that!
- Columbina: Huh? I don't understand. I didn't think you'd want to hide things from him.
- Marionette: Well, yeah. But there are still things I don't want to say!
- Columbina: Okay. I'll come by myself and tell him for you then.
- Marionette: That's not what I meant!
- Marionette: Tch, alright. Enough with the speeches. If no one has anything else to add, let's just leave it there!
- Paimon: Hm, should we say a few words too? Kinda seems like Columbina said it all...
Let's leave a flower.- Paimon: Ooh! Great idea!
- (The Traveler and Sandrone each leave a bouquet of wildflowers, while Columbina leaves a ring of Moon-Prayer Blossoms)
- (As the group departs, Sandrone turns back one last time)
- Marionette: *sigh*... Goodbye, Alain.
- (Interact with Alain Guillotin's Epitaph, optional)
Alain Guillotin
Founding Director of the Research Institute of Kinetic Energy Engineering
White Cavalier of Protection
Lord-Artificer
May the waters protect his soul
May he be troubled by suffering no more
May the waters guide his soul
Safely across to the other shore
"Regrettably, there's nothing more to say."
- (Enter the Wingalet)
- Furina: Ah, you made it! The party's already started.
- Furina: Oh, but, uh, you didn't bring anyone else along? I thought you headed out to invite some friends?
- Marionette: We did invite a friend, actually. She'll be here soon. She's even bringing some desserts to have over tea. You should join us later, Miss Furina.
- Furina: I do love a tea party... Then, don't mind if I do!
- Columbina: This seems like a fun occasion. Let's go talk with everyone!
- Paimon: Good idea! We'll introduce you to all our old friends!
- (Approach Emilie, Chevreuse, Chiori, Clorinde, and Navia)
- Chevreuse: You made it! Sorry for starting the celebrations without you.
- Paimon: No worries at all! We're just glad everyone's having such a great time!
- Paimon: Oh, right! You've probably seen them around already, but let us introduce you for real. This is—
- Navia: Miss Columbina and Miss Guillotin, right? Haha, we saw the film you were in! It was so touching!
- Clorinde: Yep. This one started bawling her eyes out right next to me in the theatre.
- (If the player has not met Clorinde yet, an introductory note appears on screen)
Clorinde — Candlebearer, Shadowhunter
Clorinde works for the Maison Ordalie, and is widely considered to be the strongest Champion Duelist of this generation bar none.
Introverted by nature, she acts decisively. Though she rarely smiles, she is far friendlier than her cold appearance would suggest.
Her sword and gun are her most cherished companions, and the law and justice are her firm convictions.
The media tend to be quite interested in reporting stories on this famous Champion Duelist, but as for Clorinde... she really doesn't want to be in the papers.
- Navia: I know! I didn't bring nearly enough tissues!
- Marionette: Thanks. We saw your film too. I memorized all your names.
- Paimon: Oh, guess we can skip the introductions then...
- Navia: Hehe! Our effects were pretty over-the-top, right? Some of the extras in the big scenes were actual members of the Spina di Rosula!
- Chiori: So basically, your contribution was creating realistic-looking chaos.
- Clorinde: Heh, that wasn't the only realistic aspect... Miss Chevreuse and Miss Emilie were also kind enough to lend their expertise on criminal investigations and forensics.
- Emilie: Oh, it was nothing. I was just honored to take part and help out.
- Paimon: Wow, no wonder your film turned out so good... You basically had an expert in every field! Talk about a stacked crew...
- Navia: Oh, speaking of... Want to join in on a round of Tabletop Troupe later, Miss Columbina and Miss Guillotin? I mean, what better place for a party... than a party, hehehe!
- Clorinde: Here we go again...
- Columbina: That sounds interesting.
- Navia: Yes! Persuasion successful! What about you, Miss Guillotin?
- Marionette: Uh... I guess one round couldn't hurt...
- Navia: Haha, critical success!
- (Approach Charlotte, Escoffier, and Lepine-Pauline)
- Lepine-Pauline: *sob*... What a dream come true... For once, it all worked out... I can die without regrets...
- Charlotte: Uh, haha... Let's not get too ahead of ourselves, Director Lepine-Pauline!
- Charlotte: What was in that piece of cake you just handed her, Escoffier?
- Escoffier: Romaritime flowers, eggs, flour... same as all the other pieces. What, you think I tampered with it? Playing a detective in real life now too, are we?
- (If the player has not met Escoffier yet, an introductory note appears on screen)
Escoffier — Tasteful Excellence
A famous chef and pioneer of Fontaine's precision gastronomy, a culinary movement that takes the rigorous precision and quantitative methods that are routine in scientific experimentation and applies them to cooking.
In the eyes of her students, she is both a genius who strives for perfection and a stickler whose exacting standards fill them with dread.
To create dishes that transcend the sublime, she is constantly pushing the boundaries of flavor...
- Lepine-Pauline: It's so delicious... I'm so happy... My life has peaked... *sob*...
- Xavier: Miss Lepine-Pauline, look who I brought!
- Ninette: Master!
- Ninette: Wait... What happened to your face? Why are you crying?
- Lepine-Pauline: Never mind my face! Here, let me introduce you. This is Miss Charlotte and Miss Escoffier...
- (The Traveler, Paimon, Sandrone, and Columbina approach the group)
- Paimon: Things are sounding lively over here!
- Lepine-Pauline: Oh, look who it is! Perfect timing! I was so busy with the shoot, I feel like we barely got to talk!
- Lepine-Pauline: Ah! And the elusive Miss Guillotin! It's great to see you! Thank you so much for letting us use the boat free of charge. That was so generous of you!
- Lepine-Pauline: Oh, right! Introductions! This is Miss Charlotte and Miss Escoffier...
- Marionette: That's kind of you, but I didn't really do anything. If you want to thank someone, it should be the Duke or the people who keep the boat in such good shape.
- Lepine-Pauline: Right, right... I'll head over in a bit and do just that!
- Charlotte: Miss Columbina...?
- Columbina: Yes?
- Charlotte: Could I... interview you sometime? I'll treat you to some Gateau Debord for the trouble! There's only a limited amount available each day, but it's an absolute must-try when you're in Fontaine!
- Columbina: Oh... Sure.
- Escoffier: Bold of you to use my own cake as a bribe right in front of me...
- Lepine-Pauline: You know what? When else are we all going to be together like this? C'mon, everyone. Grab your drinks!
- (Everyone raises their glasses)
- Columbina: Are we going to toast?
- Lepine-Pauline: Yep! C'mon, c'mon, c'mon! Sante!
- (Lepine-Pauline rapidly clinks her own glass against everyone else's, before lifting it in the air)
- (Approach Citlali, Freminet, Lynette, and Lyney)
- Lyney: Granny Itztli, you're really not going to let us borrow these cute little stuffed toys for our magic show?
- (If the player has not met Lyney yet, an introductory note appears on screen)
Lyney — Spectacle of Phantasmagoria
With his surpassing talent, this eminent magician has created a truly amazing magic show that has fixed all of Fontaine's attention on him.
He's usually cheerful, wearing on confident smile on his face. Regardless of who he is speaking with, he is composed and assured, with a tendency to interweave magic tricks into conversations, delighting all those he deals with.
Only those closest to him know that this image he has created for others is all just a part of the enthralling "magic show."
- Citlali: First of all, Citlalin and Itzpapa are Tzitzimitl! They have inauspicious stars sealed within them, and they're my helpers, not toys!
- Freminet: But... the Grin-Malkin Cat and Bogglecat Box are Lyney and Lynette's helpers, and they still make good partners on stage.
- (If the player has not met Freminet yet, an introductory note appears on screen)
Freminet — Yearning for Unseen Depths
Freminet is not a good speaker, but people who are familiar with him know that his distant demeanor hides a pure soul.
He does not enjoy the spotlight. The gazes, reactions, and comments of others risk running his breathing ragged.
As an exceptional diver, he is more used to hiding on the silent seabed, pouring his soul out to, and sharing warmth with, the Romaritime Flowers in that weightless world.
Unlike other divers, this introvert does not accept external commissions. He belongs only to Hotel Bouffes d'ete and to his precious family members who live there.
- Lynette: Agreed. We've never had a Tzitzimitl pop out of our hats before. It would be quite the surprise. I think the audience would love it.
- (If the player has not met Lynette yet, an introductory note appears on screen)
Lynette — Elegance in the Shadows
Lyney's twin sister, a quiet and gentle young girl known throughout Fontaine as "The Great Magician Lyney's Assistant."
On the stage, she is focused and alert, while her offstage persona is shy and reserved, rarely revealing any expression. She uses "standby mode" as an excuse to avoid unnecessary social interactions.
Only her valued family members can see past the mysterious front she puts up to disguise her true feelings.
- Citlali: (Ugh... If this was the Masters of the Night-Wind, these kids wouldn't have even had the guts to say my name, let alone pester me like this...)
- Citlali: (I'm terrible at dealing with requests like this... Oh! (Traveler)! Quick, save me!)
- (The Traveler and Paimon approach the group)
Looks like Granny Itztli's made some new friends!- Citlali: You think you're so funny!
- Freminet: Lady Sandrone, Lady Columbina.
- Columbina: Hello.
- Marionette: Don't look at me like that. I don't have any mechanisms for you to break!
- Lynette: ...Hmph.
- Lyney: Hehe... Don't be fooled by my sister's demeanor, Lady Sandrone. She's just as delighted as the rest of us to have you back.
- Marionette: Hmph, well... I suppose when I'm not so busy, I could find some time when Arlecchino is around, and bring over a few gifts to the House of the Hearth.
- Lyney: You're too kind, Lady Sandrone. I'm sure just your visit alone would make "Father" more than happy.
- Lynette: I just need to borrow them for a bit. I'll pull them out of my hat, give them a quick hug, then give them straight back.
- Citlali: When did hugging become a part of it!?
- Freminet: Oh! I could lend you Pers, so you have something to hug in the meantime. He gives really good hugs...
- Citlali: I don't need something to hug in the meantime! The issue was never the hugs!
- Lynette: Mm, how about this... You can have two VIP tickets right next to each other. Excellent view!
- Citlali: Right next to each other?
- (Lynette eyes both the Traveler and Citlali)
- Lynette: Yep. Super quiet. No one will bother you.
- Citlali: Ugh...
- (Citlali glances at the Traveler)
- Lynette: I'm sure you'll have a great time.
- Citlali: Fine.
- (Approach Neuvillette)
- Paimon: Neuvillette! You came to the celebration too!
- Neuvillette: Yes. I can only hope my presence does not make anyone ill at ease.
- (If the player has not met Neuvillette yet, an introductory note appears on screen)
Neuvillette — Ordainer of Inexorable Judgment
The Iudex of Fontaine, renowned for his unassailable impartiality.
To become the symbol of absolute justice, he has always maintained a gentle and polite attitude, maintaining an appropriate distance from others, while also having a very strong sense of empathy.
Though he considers himself an "outsider," having spent several hundred years in the opera house as a witness to the great drama of humanity, perhaps he has long since become a member of the human audience.
- Columbina: Who's this...?
- Paimon: Oh, right! This is Neuvillette, the Iudex of Fontaine. And this is Columbina and Sandrone.
- Neuvillette: Greetings.
- Marionette: Hello.
- Neuvillette: (These two must be the Fatuus and former Fatuus related to the recent incident in Nod-Krai. I read about them in the diplomatic report...)
- Columbina: The Iudex? Oh, the dragon that cries a lot.
- Neuvillette: Oh, well...
- Marionette: (Geez, Columbina... That's your takeaway from all those Fatui meetings. Seriously...?)
- Neuvillette: (Is that truly how I'm portrayed in the Fatui's intelligence?)
- Columbina: You must put a lot of people in prison, then...
- Neuvillette: Well, it would be more accurate to say I pass judgment on their crimes. All trials in Fontaine strive for fairness and justice, so as to avoid imprisoning the innocent.
- Columbina: So... only the people who deserve it get sent to prison.
- Neuvillette: Well, "deserve" is quite a subjective metric, is it not? At the very least, I can promise that, in every trial over which I preside, I make every effort to deliver a fair verdict.
- Columbina: Hm...
- (Columbina punches Neuvillette lightly)
- Columbina: ...Hya!
- Marionette: (Oh, for the love of— What is she doing now!?)
- Neuvillette: Uhm...
- Columbina: You seem like a good per— uhm, dragon. Not the kind that throws people in prison for no reason.
- Columbina: I think we can get along just fine.
- Neuvillette: Ah, well... Thank you...?
- Neuvillette: (Then, she punched me because...?)
- Paimon: Sorry, Neuvillette! She thinks that's a sign of friendship...
- Marionette: (Where does she even pick up weird habits like that...?)
- Neuvillette: Ah... I see. I believe I have observed people on the streets of Fontaine expressing affection in a similar manner.
- Neuvillette: I suppose I now know what it feels like. Hm, yes. Quite... abrupt.
- Paimon: Y'know, these two are surprisingly alike...
- (Approach Baptiste, Sigewinne, Veronique, and Wriothesley)
- Paimon: Wait a second... Mr. Baptiste and Veronique! You're here!
- Marionette: Friends of yours?
- Paimon: Veronique is the prop manager for Musketeer Pictures! And Mr. Baptiste is the author of "The Two Musketeers"!
- Veronique: Aha... Yeah, "former" prop manager. Now we're just two criminals serving our time.
How've you been?- Veronique: Thanks to Duke Wriothesley and Nurse Sigewinne looking out for us, not too bad actually.
- Wriothesley: You make it sound like I'm giving you special treatment. I just think the method of "justice" you chose to pursue is one people can respect.
- Baptiste: You're far too modest, Your Grace. The only reason we were even able to come to the surface for the festival is because you fought for it.
- Sigewinne: It's also just good for the physical and mental health of the prisoners in general.
- (If the player has not met Sigewinne yet, an introductory note appears on screen)
Sigewinne — Wondrous Dragonheir
The head nurse of the Fortress of Meropide, she cares equally for every convict locked inside the prison.
A gentle and delicate soul who believes that "good health is vital for atonement," she likes to prepare nutritious meals for the overworked prisoners in her care — though the ingredients she uses are often terrifying.
In the eyes of this Melusine medic, looking after humans is much like caring for kittens, and it brings her no end of joy.
- Wriothesley: Anyway, I suppose I have you to thank for keeping the Wingalet in such good shape! I never knew she could look so striking.
- Marionette: I didn't do anything special. It was mostly (Traveler) and the others.
- Wriothesley: Don't sell yourself short, Miss Guillotin. You are the current captain, after all. In light of that, I have to ask...
- Wriothesley: Do you mind if I leave up some of the installations so the people back at the Fortress can also enjoy the aquarium?
- Marionette: ...Huh?
- Wriothesley: Like I said before, I just think it would be good for the inmates who clean and maintain the Wingalet to see their work put to good use.
- Wriothesley: Besides, maintaining an aquarium is sure to be a lot more interesting than scrubbing rust off the walls and deck.
- Marionette: Oh... Of course I don't mind. I'm grateful you even want to keep it.
- Wriothesley: Great, then it's decided.
- Columbina: That's amazing, Sandrone. We should go hang out at the Fortress of Meropide later, then!
- Marionette: ...You do know you just invited me to hang out in prison, don't you?
- (After talking with everyone)
- Marionette: Oh, looks like Arlecchino's here. C'mon, Columbina. Let's go have ourselves a tea party.
- (Enter the captain's quarters)
-
- (The Traveler, Paimon, Sandrone, Columbina, Arlecchino, and Furina sit down for a tea party)
- The Knave: Well, it's been quite some time since the three of us gathered to drink tea like this...
- (If the player has not met Arlecchino yet, an introductory note appears on screen)
Arlecchino — Dire Balemoon
"The Knave" Arlecchino, fourth of the Fatui Harbingers. She is a calm and cool diplomat as well as the head of House of the Hearth.
Those who have crossed paths with The Knave invariably come away feeling as though they've been dealt the short end of the stick, for she effortlessly commands every conversation, and is utterly ruthless to boot.
While a large part of the world may look upon the Fatui Harbingers and Arlecchino with fear or disdain, to the children of the House of the Hearth, she is simply "Father," the most important figure in their lives.
And because they have a Father, the House of the Hearth feels just like home.
- Columbina: Yes, but your tea is as good as ever, Sandrone.
- Marionette: Hmph, of course it is. The pastries you brought aren't half bad either, Arlecchino.
- The Knave: I'm glad to hear it.
- The Knave: Are they to your liking, Miss Furina? If I remember correctly, this particular cake is your favorite.
- Furina: Yes, thank you. The tea and pastries are absolutely delicious.
- Furina: (Hehe, I can't believe I'm casually sipping tea with three Harbingers... or are some of them former Harbingers? Who knows...)
- The Knave: Due to diplomatic reasons at the time, our last tea party was rather tense, wasn't it, Miss Furina? You have my apologies.
- The Knave: But, this is simply a casual gathering of close friends. So, I do hope you can relax and enjoy yourself.
- Furina: Of course! I appreciate the hospitality... in both cases! Next time, let me be the one to treat all of you!
- The Knave: I'm sure we'd all be delighted to have you join us more often. The same goes for you two.
Just keep the pastries coming, and we'll be there!
Don't mind if we do.- Paimon: Of course we should do this again! We've all been through thick and thin together by this point!
- Columbina: Hehe... This is nice, Sandrone. It reminds me of the happy times back in Snezhnaya. When things were so lively...
- Marionette: Yeah. To be honest, I never thought these gatherings would feel this lively ever again.
- The Knave: Well, I think I speak for all of us when I say, we're truly glad you're back, Sandrone.
- Marionette: Me too. I've realized that holding on to what matters doesn't just mean protecting what you already have.
- Marionette: By reaching out and striving for something new, you can gain much more than you think.
- The Knave: Now, that certainly doesn't sound like something the old you would say.
- Marionette: W—Well, I'm only going to say it once, so... don't get used to it!
- The Knave: Heh, who knows? Perhaps your tea parties will only get livelier from here on out.
- The Knave: Once you return to the Fatui, we'll have more opportunities to keep in touch, in any case.
- Columbina: Hmm... I want to spend more time together too, but I don't want to go back to the Fatui.
- Marionette: Well, Nod-Krai isn't too far from Snezhnograd. It shouldn't be hard to find a place where we can all get together.
- Columbina: Ooh! And then I can sing for you, or put on some of your favorite music, just like the old days!
- Furina: Ah, speaking of music... I spotted a mechanical piano below deck. Is it yours, Miss Guillotin?
- Marionette: Yes. Reclaimed... I suppose you could say.
- The Knave: Why don't you play something for us?
- Marionette: ...Huh? In front of all these people!?
- Columbina: Yes, why not? You play so well.
I'd also love to hear you play...- Paimon: Yeah, c'mon! Just a little! Please!
- Marionette: Tch... For the love of...
- Marionette: Fine! One piece and that's it!
- (Everyone gathers in the aquarium hall to watch Sandrone's piano performance. She starts playing her appearance theme "La derniere question, et sa reponse", and a flashback shot is briefly shown of Alain watching Sandrone playing the piano outside their home.)
- Lepine-Pauline: Alright, Musketeer Pictures. Everyone ready?
- Chevreuse: I'm not sure I should be in this one...
- Furina: Of course you should! You might have primarily helped out another crew this time, but you're still a member of Musketeer Pictures!
- Chevreuse: Alright, thanks. I'll still stand a bit off to the side, though.
- Veronique: Can I be in the picture too?
- Xavier: Of course, Miss Veronique. I would have loved to have you in the last one too, if circumstances had allowed it.
- Veronique: Thank you... Director Xavier.
- Marionette: Ugh... do I really have to be front and center?
- Paimon: You're one of the lead actors! Of course you do!
- Columbina: Nervous, Sandrone?
- Marionette: Tch, no!
- Lepine-Pauline: Alright, look at the kamera...
- Lepine-Pauline: And three, two, one...
- Everyone: "Musketeer Pictures!"
