(Approach Jinggui)
Paimon: Huh? Looks like there's another painting over here...
Jinggui: Aha, very sharp.
Jinggui: A bunch of youngsters calling themselves heirs of the Guhua Clan once commissioned Castiglione to paint it. They claim it's their prized "training ground."
Jinggui: But they're an awfully proud lot. Think themselves peerless masters already, far above such basic drills. So they handed the painting off to me.
Paimon: Wait... Aren't you with the Guhua Clan?
Jinggui: Well, I'd love to claim that. Alas, that lad Guhua probably wouldn't dare take me in.
Jinggui: Back when we were clearing out bandits at Guili Plains, the boy nearly got himself killed for lack of proper training. I had no choice but to...
Jinggui: Ah, never mind. Old, uninteresting business. Though this painting, now... that's another matter.
Jinggui: If you're curious, go on and unroll it. No great loss if you tear it — Castiglione's idle most days anyway. I'll have him paint another.
(Restore the painting)
Jinggui: Heh... No matter how many times I see it, it still makes no sense to me. I've never heard of anyone honing their swordsmanship by chopping bamboo. That lad Guhua really did have some strange ideas in that head of his.
Jinggui: Bamboo can be woven into baskets, carved into slips, shaped into flutes or tally rods, even made into writing brushes. But using it as stakes or training weapons? Now that's a new one. Quite the innovation, I suppose.
Jinggui: Alright then, you two! Since the scroll has been unrolled, I'll speak on behalf of those little Guhua Clan disciples and lay out the rules.
Jinggui: Among these bamboo dummies, some are dressed in blue while others are dressed in red.

Icon Dialogue Talk White Oh, like those at Wangshan Hall...
Icon Dialogue Talk White I know the rules.
Paimon: Oh, Paimon remembered too! We have to attack the dummies in blue without hitting a single dummy in red, right?
Jinggui: Exactly. In that case, I won't waste any more breath. Show me what your sword can do!
(If the player has not completed Shrouded Vale, Hidden Hero)
Jinggui: The first stage of this trial is simple: strike the ones in blue, and do not hit the ones in red.
Jinggui: If you're ready, you may begin at any time. Let me witness the sharpness of your blade.
(Start the challenge)
(If the player hits a red dummy for the first time)
Jinggui: Yikes. Looks like the red dummy was hit...?
Jinggui: Fine... Let's just agree that this one's on me. Remember to keep away next time.
(If the player hits a red dummy for the second time)
(The challenge fails)
Jinggui: Ah, that's a pity. You hit the red dummy by mistake.
Jinggui: That's fine. Just steady yourself a bit more next time.
(If the timer runs out)
(The challenge fails)
Jinggui: Mm, time's up. A pity — but no harm done. A bit more swiftness next time will see you through.
(Condition missing)
Jinggui: Come now, let's call the rest proper practice. These ones aren't even as tough as that lad. You two should have little trouble with them.
(After defeating the first round of dummies)
Jinggui: Haha! Splendid! That was beautifully executed.
(After defeating the second round of dummies)
Jinggui: The second round, hm? I hear the youngsters say you're meant to throw your spear and hit a target set some distance away...
Jinggui: That said, I've my own measure of things. As long as you hit the target, that'll do. That lad Guhua insists on the spear... though I suspect it's merely what he's most practiced in.
(After defeating the third round of dummies)
Jinggui: Good! Now then, for the next round, treat it as though you're clearing weeds. When the opponents press in, cut them down as swiftly as you can. Let me see... within two seconds —
Jinggui: — Ah, that was said in jest. Pay it no mind. Simply dispatch them as swiftly as you're able.
Jinggui: The situation on the battlefield changes in the blink of an eye. There's little sense in setting such rigid limits during training.
(After defeating all of the blue dummies)
(Two Domain Keepers appear)
Jinggui: Ahh! I—It's the Keepers!
Jinggui: Haha, steady yourselves. They're no different from common brigands. Land a clean strike, and they'll go down.
(While fighting the Keepers)
(A strike cuts the Keepers' HP by half)
Jinggui: See? Just like that.
(Talk to Jinggui)
Jinggui: Excellent! That's a wrap!
Jinggui: Thank you both, that was a real delight. Your skills are truly impressive, blond youngster. I daresay you're far stronger than that kid Guhua.
Icon Dialogue Talk White Well done me!
Icon Dialogue Talk White It wasn't a big deal.
Jinggui: No need to be modest. Your swordplay is strong — that much I can tell.
Jinggui: Thanks to the two of you, I've had a rare moment of insight myself. Fish paste really does need a bit of freshly minced meat mixed in to bring out the flavor. Leave it too long, and there's no masking the fishiness.
Paimon: Ah, fair point... Hmm? Wait... that doesn't seem related at all, does it!?
Jinggui: Haha, never mind such trifles! Next time I have Castiglione paint me a few more fish, I'll treat you both to some proper fish paste!

Trivia

  • The challenge arena is an exact copy of the one in Mt. Lingmeng in front of the entrance to Wangshan Hall, which is the Guhua Clan's base.
