Dialogue

(First interaction)
Nihilux: Wait, isn't this the legendary (Trailblazer), the inspiration behind Baseball Raccoon from Fluffy Across the Blue, the annual masterpiece by that genius artist, Blurry_QR_Colt?
Nihilux: You showing up really brightens this humble place, even brighter than electric lights... Furbulitzer? Paraprince? Any little furbo will do. Just turn off the lights and save us some on the electric bill.
Nihilux: Alright, let's get down to business. Press 1 for business inquiries, press 2 for juicy gossip submissions, press 3 for casual chat, and if you're here to collect debts or settle scores, please hold~
Icon Dialogue Arrow 111.
Nihilux: Oh, if it isn't our generous sponsor.
Nihilux: Brand collaborations, comic publications, ad placements, and commissioned work are all on the table. Of course, we could also just have a small talk first. I'll charge by the word and give you a discount. Oh, this line's on the house.
Icon Dialogue Arrow 222.
Nihilux: Company policy states: To spread gossip far and wide and rake in the profits, you need startup capital that'll get you trending.
Nihilux: Of course, we could always start with some small talk first, get to know each other better. I'll charge by the word and give you a discount. Oh, this line's on the house.
Icon Dialogue Arrow 333.
Nihilux: How generous of you! But just so we're clear upfront, the emotional labor involved in chatting with you is pretty hard to put a price on. So I'll charge by the word and give you a discount. Oh, this line's on the house.
Icon Dialogue Arrow 444.
Nihilux: Congrats! You've unlocked a hidden option, that is, to chat with me! Charged by the word, super value for money. Here's a discount for you, and this line's on the house.
Nihilux: From what I know about the Astral Express, you should have a pretty comfortable allowance, yes? Come on, let's talk specifics.
(Continue to dialogue options below)

(Subsequent interactions)
Nihilux: Looking to dig up some behind-the-scenes secrets on The Fluffy, or maybe learn about Blurry_QR_Colt's exclusive creative techniques? Or are you just curious about me personally?
Nihilux: We can talk about anything. Just so you know, I charge by the word. I'll give you a discount, and this line's on the house.
Icon Dialogue Talk Let's get into it.
Nihilux: That's quite generous of you! Please, go ahead.
Icon Dialogue Talk Give me back the rights to Fluffy Across the Blue!
Nihilux: Whoa, don't be mad! Okay, it's true that I just wanted to ride on your coattails at first, but things are different now...
Nihilux: The Astral Express's adventures, The Fluffy's sales numbers, and Blurry_QR_Colt's monthly living expenses... All three are now tightly bound together... You could say we're all on the same boat now!
Nihilux: As a distant cousin of the Express, from this day forward I'll continue to follow the Trailblaze and take Fluffy Across the Blue to new heights! Animation adaptations, trendy toys, idol training programs... You name it, and we'll do it all!
Icon Dialogue Talk I wanna watch the animation!
Nihilux: The animation trailer dropped a while back. A savvy user like you probably already caught it, didn't you? As for when season 1 actually launches...
Nihilux: If only Blurry_QR_Colt had eight hands, she could whip up drawings in a flash! But for now, we'll just have to trust Pearluxe Entertainment to handle it.
Icon Dialogue Talk I wanna buy some trendy toys!
Nihilux: Every update, I see comment sections flooded with the same question: "When's the new edition coming out?" After mulling it over, I figured a designer toy collab was the best way to keep everyone happy.
Nihilux: I can't even imagine how much money we'd rake in turning the entire Fluffy Across the Blue into a blind box series: Express Daily, Island Vacation, Secret Agent Disguise, Mysterious Fashion, Overlord Showdown, Aeon Admiration...
Nihilux: My vision is for adorable critters to rule Planarcadia and create an animal paradise that all of humanity would be happy to call home!
Icon Dialogue Talk I wanna be an idol!
Nihilux: "We're all about universal idolization. In the world of The Fluffy, YOU are your own idol! There's no competition here, no rankings. Winning is losing, and losing is winning. No scripts, no storylines, only boundless Elation where YOU'RE the star of the show!"
Nihilux: I've even got the pitch ready. Just need an investor to make it happen.
Nihilux: Of course, all these expectations hinge on the work itself being solid. On that front, just have faith in Blurry_QR_Colt! I've already got tons of ideas cooking, just waiting to put them down on paper.
Nihilux: But as for how it'll actually play out, well, that depends on what happens to the real-life version down the line! So, (Trailblazer), hope you guys can make it to an interesting ending!
Icon Dialogue Talk Tell me about your other works.
Nihilux: I knew I was right about you. So many talented multi-hyphenate creators have been buried in obscurity, all because no one bothered to ask them the simple question: "Do you have any other works?"
Nihilux: Sure, The Fluffy's massive success earned me the title of "Comedy's Touch of Gold," but it also brought plenty of doubts like, "Guess that's all Blurry_QR_Colt can do." Thing is, before I went for real-life inspiration, I had some serious artistic ambitions once...
Nihilux: My debut work, Tragicomedic Couple, tells the story of a masked fishman and a mourning ghost who saw each other as soulmates, ultimately got separated by life and death due to insatiable desires.
Nihilux: Some of the top comments say this star-crossed pair had them laughing till their stomach hurt, then crying till their head throbbed. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster...
Nihilux: But since when did I stop being able to laugh or cry? Was it when my works got too edgy, ended with a downer ending, and flopped in sales?
Nihilux: *sigh* I used to chase every new trend, desperate to make a name for myself. But the market changed so fast, I ended up with no fame and no money. Now this time, The Fluffy is my shot at catching up with the times! Praise the Trailblaze, praise the Astral Express.
Icon Dialogue Talk Have you tried drawing other subjects?
Nihilux: To Our Eventually Silent Twilight — Reincarnation plus school setting, a fusion genre combo. Sounds like a hit, right? But then this other series called Those Secret Years: The River of Regret Behind My Unspoken Story drops at the same time. It mixed different genres like school, reincarnation, mystery, fantasy, regret, and it straight-up dominated the charts. Meanwhile, my story got axed after just ten chapters...
Nihilux: And then there's my signature work of psychological horror that I've been refining for ages: The Silence of the Snake... But the publisher just laughed it off and rejected it for lacking visual thrills... I mean, come on! Aren't eighteen snake heads spectacular enough!?
Nihilux: Sure, I tried my hand at fantasy too. Hush, Secret of the Tree, maybe it'd be a hit somewhere else, but in Planarcadia? Life here's already fantastical enough. Who's gonna care about a tree?
Nihilux: I've drawn everything you can think of. Too bad life had other plans... Don't ask anymore, you're about to make me cry, and trust me, you can't handle my tears.
Icon Dialogue Talk Ever thought about leaving this business?
Nihilux: Sure I did. You probably won't believe me, but I used to be a Mourning Actor. Pretty classy, don't you think?
Nihilux: But hey, I don't mean to belittle any profession! I mean, when I swore with all my heart to become a proper Actor, things became pretty rough for me at the time.
Nihilux: Ever seen an underground theater troupe at 4 AM? Even without an audience, they still gave it their all in every rehearsal. That's their life, the beauty of tragedy...
Nihilux: Of course, I've thought about jumping ship to the Masked Fools. After all, they're way more popular, and the tavern hours seem pretty reasonable. But they're so narrow-minded! They go around trashing us Actors, saying our crying scenes aren't as technically demanding as their joke-telling.
Nihilux: Lucky for me, I've got these magic hands that just make inspiration strike, so I pivoted to comics, which also requires pulling all-nighters till 4 AM. That means I didn't even need to adjust my work schedule...
Icon Dialogue Talk Pay the furbos their overdue wages now.
Nihilux: Hold your horses, let me explain. Do you want the official statement version or the spooky rumor mill version?
Icon Dialogue Talk The official version.
Nihilux: Dear readers and fans, regarding the recent public discourse concerning our furbo employees, we hereby issue the following statement: Some of our furbo staff are indeed imagenae descended from the "Phantom Thieves." Security Bureau records document numerous bizarre furbo-related cases committed by the "Phantom Furbomorph" through their nimble agility and cunning silver tongues.
Nihilux: For example, hiding inside vending machines to pretend intelligent workers to take the money inserted with one paw and delivering the goods with the other, groups of three stacking up in cloaks to secretly run an illegal ventrifurboquism cram school, and disguising themselves as a raccoon to mooch food and drinks...
Nihilux: Fortunately, we uphold a furbo-centered approach and managed to recruit them peacefully as our official staffgrunt. Now that the furbos have engaged in legitimate professions...
Nihilux: Then forget about their wages! The fact that I didn't charge any PR or handling fees is generous enough as it is!
Icon Dialogue Talk The spooky rumor mill version.
Nihilux: Once upon a time, long before Planarcadia was even called Planarcadia... there was a group of imagenae born into obscurity, wandering the streets with hardly any Wishpower to their name.
Nihilux: To make a living, they had to resort to some dishonest methods to scrape together Wishpower and Wishbae, like raiding convenience stores at midnight to swipe "Ten More Bottles" prize-winning bottle caps and scalp them for profit, or slathering themselves in waterproof paint to masquerade as wishing fountain sprites...
Nihilux: Luckily, as a kind and loving lady, I took them in and gave these little furbos a home. As for unpaid wages and all that... talking money between family would just hurt our feelings, don't you think?
Icon Dialogue Talk Whatever, I'm not buying any of it.
Nihilux: The little furbos have had rough lives... They're grateful I gave them honest work, a safe harbor. But I know that they want to strike out on their own when they grow up...
Nihilux: I pushed them hard and then stepped back. It's not just about setting an example so they can stand on their own two feet. It's about getting them to take the initiative to find a new boss! A publishing house's gotta keep up with the times, always chasing the next big thing. That's how they stay relevant in this world.
Nihilux: And so... righteous and kindhearted Baseball Raccoon! You're an essential part of this journey of growth!
Icon Dialogue ExitNot interested.
(After completing Trailblaze Mission Non-Existent State in the chapter The Lethe Below the Living)
Icon Dialogue Talk What's Phantasmoon New Game?
Nihilux: Wait, isn't this the bonus chapter I just finished drawing? Where did you even see this? Do we have a leakfurbo at the magazine?
Nihilux: Wait! You're not some spy sent by my editor to trick me into revealing plots and hounding me for my manuscript, are you...? Let's verify with the passphrase first: There's a defense tower to the east...
Icon Dialogue Arrow A lama came from the west.
Icon Dialogue Arrow You can eat sweet shrimp in the North Pole.
Icon Dialogue Arrow Ever seen a penguin from the South Pole?
Icon Dialogue Arrow I have no idea what you're saying.
Nihilux: Bingo! It doesn't match because I totally made it up.
Nihilux: Phantasmoon New Game? Well, it's because the Phantasmoon Games are full of non-stop plot twists and reversals. Art imitates Life, y'know? I've gotta stake out some more of your real-life drama before I can start pulling things out of my bu— I mean, creating art!
Nihilux: While the main story had its limitations due to the subject matter, the muses smiled upon me... I thought I could set the Phantasmoon Games arena in this bonus story at the end of the end of the world... on a planet that even Akivili had never heard of...
Nihilux: Four major factions compete against each other, storming and scaling the tower: the Noodle Fools charge toward the peak with their versatile Furbo Fist; the Garden of Gossip lives up to its name, appearing and vanishing without a trace; the River Ranger rides the mighty waves, charging straight through; and the Blue Peace Corporation... hehe, well, the Interastral Peace Corporation is my sponsor after all...
Nihilux: I was originally gonna do a trendy "reader poll decides the winner" thing... but then I thought, hey, people came here to read comics! Let's not subject them to that cruel, zero-sum stuff from real life.
Icon Dialogue Arrow No "Astral Bus"?
Nihilux: Just a simple piece of lore to add~
Icon Dialogue Arrow So who won in the end?
Nihilux: Everyone, of course! If dumplings only came in one flavor, the universe would be so boring~
Nihilux: Finally, the four factions combine forces, piloting the Ultimate King Pom-Pom to battle the Lord Ravager "Lord HOMU"! Everyone comes out victorious~ Then, all aboard the Astral Bus for a celebratory hotpot feast~
Nihilux: A joyful ending like this is exactly what readers who celebrate life deserve!
Nihilux: Such a pure, passionate story... How come none of the eight studios I secretly pitched it to have gotten back to me yet? Don't tell me they stole my script and aren't planning to pay me royalties...
(Obtain Achievement Astral Bus, Here We Come! upon completing this dialogue for the first time)
Icon Dialogue Exit I've got stuff to do. Catch you later!
Nihilux: Are you sure you don't wanna continue the chat for another 5 credits or something?
Nihilux: Well, I can't stop you if you're set on leaving. I'll have extra tea ready next time. You're always welcome here.
(After completing Trailblaze Mission Non-Existent State in the chapter The Lethe Below the Living)
Nihilux: Oh, and... if anyone from the IPC, or a deadline-chaser, or a deadline-chaser from the IPC shows up and asks where I am... I'm not here, got it? Thanks a bunch!

Etymology

  • The name Nihilux is likely derived from the Latin words nihil, meaning "nothing" or "nothingness," and lux, meaning "light."
    • means "empty," "false," or "nihility," while zhào means "to illuminate."
  • also corresponds with the name of one of the "Twenty-eight mansions" of the Chinese constellations system. It's combination with character meaning "illuminate", could possibly suggest, that she was named after this "constellation". According to traditional believes it represents "Empty ruins or the officials responsible for funeral".
  • Nihilux's Japanese name, 虚照ステラ, is pronounced Sutera, which possibly derives from stella, the Latin word for "star." Alternatively, it also could be a semantic adaptation of her Chinese name, with word "constellation" as it's point of reference.
  • Her pen name Blurry_QR_Colt (Chinese: 模糊二维马 Móhu Èrwéimă) is a reference to the Chinese homophones of 二维码 èrwéimă, "QR code" and , "horse".
    • Her sub account HD_Bar_Colt (Chinese: 高清条形马 Gāoqīng Tiáoxíngmă) is a reference to the Chinese homophones of 条形码 tiáoxíngmă, "bar code" and , "horse".
    • In English, the word "colt" may refer to a young male horse, usually below the age of four years.
      • Both "QR_Colt" and "Bar_Colt" may be a pun on "QR code" and "barcode" respectively.
