Izumo

Last updated 2026-04-07

Izumo (Japanese: 出雲いずも) was one of two planets that circled a "pitch-black great sun."[1][2] The other planet was Takamagahara.[3]

Description

Izumo often experienced heavy thunderstorms. Girls carried their makeup with them wherever they went, as they feared it would be ruined by the rain.[4]

The people of Izumo used tassels to bind sharp blades to their belts.[5]

Although nearly all traces of Izumo have been lost to history, Izumo Miso can still be found as an interstellar import in places such as the Xianzhou Luofu.

History

The planet Izumo gave rise to humans, who named the planet they lived on "Izumo" and its sister planet in the sky "Takamagahara." One day, demonic beasts known as Kami descended from Takamagahara into Izumo with the sole purpose of eradicating the planet's inhabitants. From then on, Izumo started its long and arduous crusade, exchanging inordinate lives lost for the fall of one Kami after another. They slew one particularly powerful Kami, the "Sovereign of Revelation," and used its body to forge the first Edict Edge (also known as a Sentinel).[2] The wielders of these swords could recite the mantra contained within to master the divine power of Takamagahara, and use it to combat the Kami.[1] During the long war against the Kami, the people broke 70,033 warrior's blades and forged twelve Sentinels.[5]

The people of Izumo also used the might of the Edict Edges to light up their uncivilized world of darkness. In less than ten Amber Eras, they built cities with dazzling neon lights.[1] Some humans became Oni as a result of drawing upon Takamagahara's power.

As the war came to a halt, the twelve Sentinels were broken and sealed away.[5] The people used the remains of the Edict Edges to craft two blades: "Origin," wielded by Acheron, and "End," presumably wielded by Hakuhatsu Ki. Acheron and Hakuhatsu Ki came into conflict and fought in a duel to determine the future of Izumo. Though Acheron emerged victorious, the battle was ultimately meaningless, as Izumo and Takamagahara had long since begun sinking into the Shadow of IX. As Acheron realized that all they had done had been futile, she was consumed by Nihility and became a Self-Annihilator, while both planets were destroyed by the Shadow of IX.[2][6]

Due to its sudden destruction, Izumo's history is all but lost in the modern day. A group of Armed Archaeologists once ventured to the remains but could only find the Enigmata there.[7] Academics hold various views regarding its disappearance, but none can solve the mystery.[1]
