With obliteration looming large, people couldn't care less to point fingers. The only thing they were certain was that the beautiful world would be gone forever.
Zaum was a border star system along an Interastral Peace Corporation trade route that, due to several factors, eventually collapsed and became a dead system.[1]
History
The star system Zaum was blessed by a prophet who brought knowledge far ahead of its time, allowing them to create cutting-edge technology and negotiate with the IPC. The IPC, refusing to let a star system in their logistics chain horse-trade with them, turned the people of Zaum against each other. At the same time, the prophet's actions caused the ruined timelines to condense into a tsunami of muddled memoria, destroying the planet by acting as a indiscriminate disease in the form of a grey tide. This sowed greater discourse in the two warring political forces, who each believed the other to be responsible. During the conflict, the prophet was assassinated, and a chaotic wave of memoria flooded the border between the two forces. Some time later, a missile was fired to quell the memoria, but it became the catalyst for a war between the two factions that spanned two Amber Eras. The nation was completely destroyed and Zaum was swallowed by the memoria.
A Creed Exequy member, Elegy, keeps the history of the star system within a Memory Bubble.[1]
Trivia
- Zaum is likely a reference to ZA/UM, the studio responsible for the game Disco Elysium, as several references to their games are already found throughout Honkai: Star Rail. The inclusion of a prophet (akin to Disco Elysium's innocences), warring factions, launching of nuclear weapons, and a gray tide of muddled memoria sweeping over the planet solidify the Disco Elysium reference.
