History

The Black Forest is a forest enveloped in darkness located on an island. The forest is mainly inhabited by inorganic lifeforms such as prophecy machines, poet machines and sentient objects and few organic lifeforms visit the forest.^[1][2]

After an omen from the Finality, Cuckoo Clocks began appearing inside the forest. A Nameless then entered the forest and began collecting this clocks. Once back on the Astral Express, the clocks began to multiply, filling the ship to the brim, until the Nameless was swallowed by the Swarm halfway through their voyage.^[3]

After the Second Emperor's War, a rumor that mechanical lifeforms will bring about the final disaster spread through the cosmos. A group of robots formed an expedition team to find the rumor's creator, eventually finding him inside the forest.^[4]
