Profile

Xueyi is a judge of the Ten-Lords Commission on the Xianzhou Luofu, in charge of detention.^[1] She is the older sister of Hanya, another judge of the Ten-Lords Commission.^[2][3] Her physical body died due to Rahu and Shuhu's invasion of the Xianzhou Cangcheng,^[4] and her soul resides within the Hall of Karma,^[5] which is periodically taken out and place into a mechanical puppet to work for the Ten Lords.^[6]

When Xueyi apprehends a criminal, she gets reanimated once again for half a day, which she spends with Hanya strolling and doing silly things together.^[1][7] She is also the main character of An Unsuitable Job for A Puppet.

Appearance

Xueyi has the appearance of a young woman with red eyes and short black hair with red and blue underneath. She wears a white-blue crop top with red straps, as well as a necklace containing red, white, and blue beads. Around her waist lies an oni face-like belt and a bell on her left thigh. She has two red and gold bracelets around her wrists.

She wears white tights, with blue and red stripes that stop under her knees on her right leg. A black strap with a gold chain dangles around the upper thigh, while the left thigh contains an octagonal-like pattern of red and blue threads.

Xueyi's original body was destroyed due to mara corruption, so she resides in an ingenium body that is maintained by aurumatons. Due to the nature of her work, she has numerous spare bodies at her disposal. She can transfer her consciousness to them or other ingenium machines if her soul does not immediately return to the Hall of Karma.

History

Xueyi took care of Hanya when they were still young. Due to Rahu and Shuhu consuming the citizens of the Cangcheng, Xueyi contracted mara and died trying to save Hanya.^[8] The Ten-Lords Commission granted Xueyi another chance and hired her with a condition: for every criminal she apprehends, she gets to "live" for half a day.^[1][9]

While on the hunt for Blade, she was surrounded by mara-struck soldiers, she was damaged. She was saved by Sushang, Luocha, and Dan Heng, with Luocha repairing her body with his pendant.^[10]

Xueyi, Hanya, and Huohuo were assigned to the heliobi within Fyxestroll Garden to create an Evil Binding Matrix. One night, Guinaifen, Sushang, and the Trailblazer snuck into Fyxestroll Garden and were surrounded by Wraith Wardens, before being saved by Xueyi and Hanya. When Fyxestroll Garden was affected by Cirrus and Furynox that caused people to fall into an illusion, Xueyi guided Huohuo and the Trailblazer out the exit. However, Cirrus still managed to escape and merged with the heliobi, almost possessing Xueyi and the Trailblazer but used her chains to pin them both to the ground.^[11]

When Feixiao sent Jiaoqiu and Moze to the Shackling Prison to visit Hoolay, Xueyi was the one who received them in the entrance and guided them to his cell. When Mok Tok helped Hoolay escape, Xueyi sacrificed her ingenium body and resided in a cycrane to not forget the memories of who helped Hoolay escape.^[12][13]

• Based on Hanya's memories of Rahu destroying the Xianzhou Cangcheng and Shuhu battling Teng Xiao, it is likely that Xueyi was stricken with mara in this same event. That means Xueyi was mara-struck in 6300 Star Calendar with the destruction of the Cangcheng, as the other known battle between Shuhu and Teng Xiao — the Shuhu Upheaval — happened roughly during or before Year 7379, which is too recent to corroborate Hanya's statement about their career with the Ten-Lords Commission.
• When Xueyi used to be alive, she enjoyed walking around markets, reading novels, and watching immersia. Currently she still enjoys thriller novels and immersias.^[15]
  • She leaves comments in the web novel An Unsuitable Job for A Puppet. She is aware that the novel is based on herself, and speculates that the author could be one of her colleagues.^[16]
• Drawings of Xueyi and Hanya are featured on the cover of Hanya's notebook in Hanya's splash art and overworld idle animation.
• The title of Xueyi's Keeping Up With Star Rail, Unbreakable Puppet-Doll, is a reference to the light novel series Unbreakable Machine-Doll.

Etymology

• 雪衣 Xuěyī literally translates to "snow-white clothing."
• Xueyi represents the white stones in Chinese Weiqi chess. 雪衣 is also a literary name for the egret.^[17] Another name for Chinese Weiqi is 乌鹭 wūlù, in which 乌 wū means crow and 鹭 lù means egret.^[18] Hanya compliments Xueyi by representing the black stones in Chinese Weiqi.
