Profile

Hysilens, real name Helektra, is a sea siren, described as "an after echo of a wave" in the prophecy.^[1] As the Knight Commander of the Okheman Alliance, she is an invaluable member of Cerydra's court, drawing her blade solely for the Imperator's sake. Known as Experimental Factor "ApoRia432," among the Twelve Factors that make up the Amphoreus Experiment, she represents the Path of Nihility.

Appearance

Hysilens is a woman with long, straight, black-colored hair that extends past her thighs, fading to a plum color at the ends with light blue underneath. She has fringe bangs as well as two locks of hair that reach just past her chest; the left side tucked behind her ear while the right side covers it. Her eyes are a mix of indigo, light blue, and a light lilac color, and she also has white scales on her left cheek. She wears two headpieces: a white shell-like design on her left which ends with a blue dorsal fin and a piece of hot-pink coral, and a silver, bone-like piece on her right. She completes the look with two crossed indigo hairpins on the left side of her bangs, a white ear cuff and pearl earring on her left ear, and a pearl and seashell necklace that is wrapped in another coral piece, which sits atop a black collar.

Her outfit consists of a short white and blue dress with a pleated skirt, along with a longer black and light plum layer on top that is slightly torn. The second layer is open in the front and extends in the back to her ankles, with various accessories including a white and pink shell on her right hip, a fin-like blue bow and coral piece on her left hip, and a shell, bow, and coral piece on the center of her back. She wears sheer, black, flower-patterned bolero sleeves connected to her collar that extend to her wrists, with the left sleeve torn at the bicep area. She also wears a red half-glove on her right hand and a black half-glove on her left, both hands adorned with silver rings.

Hysilens's abdomen is translucent and contains bubbling, light-blue water that exposes her ribcage and spine. She wears sheer, dark-brown, thigh-high stockings with the right stocking torn at the thigh level, as well as black and purple calf-length boots that have silver, bone-like heels.

History

Eternal Recurrences

In all known Eternal Recurrences to feature Hysilens, she is born in Styxia under the name Helektra. She joins the Okehman Army, rising to the rank of Knights' Commander and earning the title of Dux Gladiorum from Imperator Cerydra. Around this time, she adopts the name Hysilens, which she is referred to by all but Cerydra in some occasions.

Eternal Recurrence #1

Following Cerydra's announcement detailing the decree of the Flame-Chase Journey, Hysilens was approached by Khaslana. He attempted to gain her trust by revealing the truth about Amphoreus and its cycles, hoping to gain an audience with Cerydra. Instead, Hysilens interrogated him alongside Tribbie and Aglaea, leading Khaslana to reveal the demigod prophecy given to Tribios. He further revealed the truth behind Era Nova, thereby earning an audience with Cerydra. Cerydra agreed to let Khaslana slay the Titans on his own and claim their Coreflames, sparing Hysilens from becoming the demigod of the Ocean. At an unknown point in time, Hysilens was swallowed by the black tide.^[2]

Eternal Recurrence #4,048,128

The Flame-Chase Journey is completed successfully, with the Coreflames of Ocean, Earth, Strife, Death, and Sky reclaimed. Following their victory, Cerydra used her demigod abilities to modify an unknown law, allowing everyone to obtain what they deemed a perfect ending. Hysilens and Cerydra subsequently disappeared from the public eye, with Cerydra vowing to wander alongside Hysilens as her follower. After years of wandering, Hysilens asked Cerydra to settle down, as she wished to write a book of her own. Cerydra earnestly accepted, expressing her excitement to hear Hysilens' next melody. There was no Era Nova in this recurrence, and Hysilens' ultimate fate remains ambiguous.^[3]

Eternal Recurrence #33,550,336

When Loukas, Icaria, and Corinth allied in Year 3867 of the Light Calendar, Hysilens joined the Hyperborean army under Cerydra to repel their invasion. By this time, she was already recorded as the demigod of Ocean, having slain sixty thousand foes by herself.^[4][5] Their victory allowed Cerydra to crown herself ruler of Okhema, silencing the Council of Elders and vowing to bring justice to the commonfolk. Together, Hysilens and Cerydra worked to conquer the other city-states one by one, though they failed to save Janusopolis from destruction.^[6] At an unknown point before or around the Month of Freedom in Year 3870, Cerydra's army suffered a crushing defeat, causing her to undergo a profound change. Cerydra and Hysilens eventually relinquished their positions in the Flame-Chase Journey, passing their responsibilities on to Aglaea.^[7] In Year 3930, Hysilens died under unknown circumstances, devastating both Aglaea and Cipher.^[4]

Eternal Recurrence #33,550,337

Early Life

Hysilens was born in Year 3860 of the Light Calendar, joining her sea siren sisters and Phagousa in battling the black tide within the depths of the ocean. Although they initially intended to continue fighting until Nikador returned, that day never came. Phagousa succumbed to corruption, the Chalice of Plenty shattered, and the Titan's intoxication mixed with the black tide, bringing the first madness to Amphoreus. Only Hysilens survived the event, becoming the last surviving member of her species by the start of the Flame-Chase Journey.^[8]

Around Year 3865, Hysilens was found by Cerydra, who offered her a place in her army. Adopting the name "Hysilens," she and two other Chrysos Heirs, Labienus and Seneca, aided Cerydra in repelling an invasion by Icaria and Corinth under the former tyrant ruler of Loukas. In Year 3910, following a failed siege of Okhema, Hysilens, now titled "Dux Gladiorum," led a surprise attack on Corinth. The attack prompted the tyrant king to take his own life by jumping from a window, after which the Corinthian army immediately surrendered. In Year 3957, Hysilens participated in the assault on Georios, becoming the only member of the Okheman army to survive after plunging into the abyss.^[9]

Meeting the Trailblazer

In Year 3960, Hysilens and Cerydra led a siege on Janusopolis, aided by "Bladed Black Velvet" Ferrum, the 97th of the 300 Rogues of Dolos, and Cifera, a Dolosian native. Using a tunnel constructed by Cifera and Ferrum, based on information supplied by Tribios, Hysilens, Cerydra, and a small party of elite Chrysos Heirs breached the Scales of Justice. Despite encountering resistance, they successfully claimed the Coreflame of Law.^[9] While there, they encountered Cyrene and the Trailblazer, who had traveled to Janusopolis to warn Cerydra about the power of the Law Coreflame. Hysilens was present during their first meeting, though she did not play an active role.

After returning to Okhema, Hysilens properly introduced herself to Cyrene and the Trailblazer before resuming her duties. Following the meeting to discuss the campaign against Phagousa, Hysilens assassinated Landon's representative in retaliation for the death of an Okheman messenger several days earlier. She was later found by the Trailblazer and Cyrene while washing the blood from herself, showing little concern about the act. Their conversation was interrupted by Aglaea, who arrived to inform Hysilens that she should prepare for the victory banquet, while making several scathing remarks about Hysilens' choice to "sully" Aglaea's hard work. Despite these remarks, Hysilens did not take them to heart and even thanked the Trailblazer for assuring Aglaea that her divine fate would be kind to her.

At the banquet, Hysilens grew suspicious of Lygus and Cerydra, particularly after being required to weave a veil through her sea siren song to conceal them. Upon spotting Cyrene and the Trailblazer, she gave them the Phagousa's Dew, allowing them to perceive the conversation hidden by the veil. Hysilens then relayed her suspicions to the two, explaining that she believed Lygus wielded malicious and "seductive whispers" that ensnared those "blinded by ambition." As a result, the two parties formed an alliance: Cyrene and the Trailblazer would bring the truth to light, while Hysilens would ensure that they did not transgress Cerydra's authority when it came to her final decision on whom to side with. After the truth was discerned, Hysilens lowered the barrier on Cerydra's orders and was subsequently deemed a traitor, to her surprise. For the crime of using her veil to aid the Trailblazer and Cyrene in robbing the Coreflame of Law, the trio were sentenced to imprisonment.

This, however, was merely a ruse intended to discern Lygus' true intentions, which he revealed without hesitation. Now fully aware of the truth, Cerydra sided with the Trailblazer and Cyrene, breaking her promise to hand the Coreflame of Law over to Lygus. Enraged, Lygus exiled the Trailblazer to the Exomyth, despite Hysilens' attempt to prevent him from doing so. Equally enraged, Cerydra used the Chronocognitive Anchor to summon Herta and Screwllum for aid.^[10]

Following the Trailblazer's exile, Cerydra and Cyrene had a private conversation, during which Cerydra acquired a memory gift for Hysilens. She subsequently declared war on Lygus and began planning the slaying of Phagousa alongside Hysilens and the other Chrysos Heirs.^[11]

Ascension

Unbeknownst to Hysilens at the time, Cerydra used the battle to complete her Trial of Law, sacrificing five hundred Chrysos Heirs to secure victory. As the sole survivor, Hysilens claimed the Coreflame of Ocean, becoming its demigod in turn. At the conclusion of the battle, Cerydra revealed to Hysilens what she had done, as well as the price required to overturn a Law of Amphoreus: the death of a demigod. Hysilens was then given the choice of either dying herself or killing Cerydra to fulfill the condition. She ultimately chose the latter.^[12]

In the Year 4534, Cipher and Anaxagoras worked with Hysilens to seal Lygus in the Vortex of Genesis, at the cost of Cipher and Anaxagoras' lives.^[13] Hysilens stood guard over his prison for nearly four centuries, keeping a fragment of Aglaea alive until around this time.^[14] After humanity went extinct in Year 4602, Hysilens attempted to use her power to create a fantasia to seal Lygus' cognition, but failed and instead forced herself into eternal slumber.^[15] Her mistake weakened the passage from Styxia to the Vortex of Genesis, requiring Castorice, the demigod of Death, to take on the Netherwing's corpse form to redirect the River of Souls to fix it.^[16]

In Year 4931, the Trailblazer broke out of the Exomyth with the aid of Evernight, bringing the modified Coreflame of Worldbearing with them. They used the memory guide created by Cyrene to find Hysilens and awaken her from her slumber, then followed her into the Vortex.^[17] Together, they fought against Lygus in his true form, initially failing due to his authority over the simulation. However, this had merely been a distraction, as Cyrene used her authority over Time to trap him in a memory loop. With Lygus' inspiration module overwhelmed, his form in the simulation dissipated, granting victory to Hysilens and Trailblazer. Hysilens and Trailblazer prepared to part ways, with Hysilens receiving a gift from the late Cerydra: a memory of Scalegorge Waterscape.^[11]

However, just as the Trailblazer attempted to enact Era Nova, Evernight swooped in and sealed them in the Memory Zone, attempting to reshape the Era Nova to suit her vision. Working with Castorice and Dan Heng, Hysilens helped rescue Trailblazer from the Memoria Tide.^[18] At the end of the cycle, an apparition of Hysilens appeared in the Demiurge Matrix, passing on her wishes for "fish" to never leave the "Ocean," and for the days ahead to "shine like pearls."^[19]

The Final Cycle

In the Final Cycle, Hysilens ascended as the Titan of Ocean.^[20] In the Year 4931, Hysilens appeared in mortal form within the Ruins of Time, with all memories of her lives in the Eternal Recurrence. Reuniting with Cerydra, the two noticed they were being rejected by the Ruins, and Khaslana, theorizing that it was due to their lack of connection to him. As such, Hysilens and Cerydra turned down the offer to accompany the Trailblazer, Dan Heng, March 7th and Cyrene as memories, instead resolving to meet them on the battlefield.^[21]

During the climax of the battle against Irontomb, Hysilens and the other Flame-Chase Titans used their existences to help enact a cosmic-sized Era Nova on the world, reversing the damage done by the Lord Ravager.^[22] Hysilens appeared once more on the Astral Express, where she took the time to reflect on all that has happened.^[23] Afterwards, she and the other heirs returned to As I've Written, awaiting the rebirth of Amphoreus in reality.^[24]

Cosmic Data Roaming

Hysilens and her allies were able to briefly contact Trailblazer during the events of Cosmic Data Roaming, where she received a parcel of clothing from Aglaea.^[25]

  • During the Trailblaze Mission Silver Chariot, Part With That Humanity's Epic, it is revealed that this sentence was the Trailblazer's parting words to Hysilens as As I've Written was concluded.
• Hysilens wrote the song "Frozen Tides" and sang it continuously in the Seabed of Luminous Remains while waiting for the Trailblazer during the 33,550,337th Eternal Recurrence.^[17]
