Porcelume
Last updated 2026-05-17
Porcelume is an Ether-resistant material mined and refined from Lumite Ore in Aerospace City.[1] It is used to produce various objects, including Qingyi's body parts, Jane Doe's daggers and bootblades, and Evelyn Chevalier's Lunalux Garrote.[2][3][4]
Properties
Structural Composition
Porcelume is noted from research notes to have great insulation, a resistance to high temperatures, noncombustibility, good malleability, and is inert to electrical energy, photonic energy, and high impact. It is a highly stable nonmetal with high reflectivity.[5]
Porcelume can be combined with certain metals to form the composite Flint Porcelloy.[6]
Societal Applications
Porcelume has great capacity to absorb Ether, and pharmaceuticals created using it as the primary component showed the ability to greatly reduce and even cure Ether Corruption.[7]
Due to its hardness and resilience, as well as immunity to Ether corruption compared to other metal alloys, it is seen as an incredibly viable material for weapons, equipment coating and drill heads in ore extraction.[8]
Shortcomings
While Porcelume is great at absorbing Ether, it is also exceedingly difficult to release the Ether, meaning it was not suitable for energy storage. Additionally all forms of Porcelume have an indeterminate threshold for Ether storage. Because the Ether stored within Porcelume does not dissipate, when it exceeds its limit it causes a physical shift that can result in an Etheric meltdown.[9]
Illnesses
Ether Vacuum
Due to Porcelume's ability to absorb Ether at a high rate, in certain circumstances it can create an Ether vacuum, which has the express ability to lower a person's Ether resistance.[10]
Porcelume Rejection
A sickness found in appearing in people treated for Ether corruption with Porcelume medicine. Their bodies violently reject Porcelume in their bodies, creating antibodies to attack the mineral. This results in a high fever and luminescent rashes whenever the afflicted interacts with Porcelume from then on.[11]
Porcelume Lung
Inhaling excessive Porcelume dust can result in lung fibrosis. The microcrystalline structure of Porcelume causes it to accumulate in the lungs, physically blocking alveolar Ether exchange, leading to chronic dry cough and breathing difficulties.[12]
Trivia
Etymology
- Porcelume is a portmanteau of "porcelain" (Chinese: 瓷), and "lume" (Chinese: 辉) from the latin "lumen," meaning "light." This name was coined in-game by "Sunbringer".[5]
