Shiyu Pillars

The Shiyu Pillars are a series of towers built across New Eridu. They are the primary energy source for the city.
Overview
A Shiyu Pillar is a colossal structure, bigger than any individual building seen thus far across New Eridu. Their purpose is to mine Ether energy from Hollows and generate power for the city.[1] This has the secondary effect of controlling the Hollows by way of limiting Ether activity within them, though this has been proven insufficient on numerous occassions. Dozens of Shiyu Pillars exist across New Eridu, with a large number being concentrated around Hollow Zero. Several are also present in the Minerva Storm Belt as part of Roscaelifer, where they mine Ether from the Scamall Hollow.
Defending the Shiyu Pillars is the primary lore objective of the Shiyu Defense Combat Mode.
History
It is unknown when the Shiyu Pillars were first constructed, but they had been a common part of life in Eridu for decades before the Fall of the Old Capital. In an effort to halt Hollow Zero's rapid expansion, fourteen Shiyu Pillars were detonated from the southwest to the northeast. The operation succeeded, as the creation of The Chasm left Hollow Zero with no material to convert into ether, halting its growth and bringing the catastrophe to an end, albeit at the cost of immense devastation.[2] Shortly afterward, the survivors of Eridu founded New Eridu.
