Tiger Thiren

Tiger Thirens are one of many groups of Thiren found across New Eridu. They once populated their own independent settlement, but following the Fall of the Old Capital have become exceedingly rare.

Description

Tiger Thirens are a kind of feline Thiren, though they are comparatively rare, with Fairy estimating that only around 20 individuals exist in New Eridu today, with none known to be living in the Outer Ring. Currently, all known tiger Thirens have a human-esque appearance, with tails and tiger ears, which are always coloured akin to a tiger with black stripes. They are known for being quite loud individuals, and for having a strong preference for meat in their diets.^[1]^[2]

History

Tiger Thiren existed prior to the founding of Eridu, but established their own, independent settlement in the wake of the collapse of the Old Civilization. Recognising the power of Eridu's Void Hunter Weapons, they planned to create their own, culminating in the creation of the W-Engine known as the Tigerbane Bell, however the device was flawed in its construction.^[3] While intended to empower individual tiger Thirens by resonating with their ether frequencies, the bell required another tiger Thiren to be sacrificed to empower the user, and was also designed such that any non-tiger Thiren who used it would immediately become corrupted and mutate in to an Ethereal.^[4]

The bell was seen as too dangerous and too cruel of a weapon, and so its use was forbidden and it was sealed away. Decades later, when Hollow disasters began to increase in frequency, the bell was brought up again, with the warrior Grim Tiger pledging to undertake a trial that, if she and her companions were successful, would prove that the tiger Thirens were strong enough without the bell, and it would remain sealed away. They were ultimately successful, but shortly thereafter the tiger Thiren's settlement was swallowed by a companion Hollow of Hollow Zero, as the chaos of the Fall of the Old Capital unfolded. 98% of all tiger Thirens perished, with the survivors being primary either young, elderly or sick individuls, who were evacuated in time to escape the danger.^[5] Despite this, the majority of those Thirens who died did so satisfied that they had kept their principles intact, rather than relying on sacrificing their own to survive.

After the fall, the tiger Thiren known as Master Tiger recovered the Tigerbane Bell, and began sacrificing those few of his kind that had survived to empower himself, including one famous actor Cang Huang, who he then impersonated. Ultimately he was thwarted when trying to take on Ju Fufu, who apprehended him, turned him over to PubSec and recovered the bell.^[4]

Types

Tiger Thirens have no subgroups among them, and instead are a subgroup of the larger Thiren type: Feline Thirens. Possibily due to their rarity, tiger Thirens are sometimes mistaken for other types of feline Thiren. It is unknown how relations between tiger Thirens and other feline Thirens work, as there have been no ingame interactions between different types of feline Thiren.
