Enchainer

Last updated 2026-09-03

Enchainers are powerful entities who serves as The Creator's emissaries. They are the true rulers of the Great Hollows and are the apex of evolution among beings of the Hollows.[1]

Description

An Enchainer is The Creator's most powerful servant and representative, the true ruler of the great Hollows, and the apex of evolution among Ethereals and creations of the Hollows. They possess formidable abilities to alter the rules within a Hollow, demonstrate high-level intelligence, and even have the capacity to move freely outside of Hollows. This overwhelming power, beyond humanity's ability to match, originates from the Creator's authority within them: the Karma Cores.

The Karma Cores are unique Ether cores created by "The Creator," with one corresponding to each of the great Hollows. No matter how powerful an Ethereal evolves to become, without obtaining and fusing with a Karma Core, it can never truly become an Enchainer. At the same time, a Karma Core is also the heart of a Void Hunter weapon. Void Hunters use and control their Void Hunter weapons to suppress the Karma Core, while bearing the cost that comes with doing so.

An ultra-High-Risk Ethereal that stands just one step away from becoming an Enchainer is known as an Enchainer larvae. They cannot leave the Hollows, are capable of simple thought, but for the most part still act on pure instinct. driven by that instinct, they will stop at nothing to seek out and attempt to devour a Karma Core.

To date, we have had no formal contact with any Enchainer. The only known Enchainer was Beliora Vike, the first-generation Void Hunter who fell completely after fusing with a Karma Core, and was hunted down by Remielle Dan a century ago. However, we have had direct confrontations with several Enchainer larvae, namely: Girtablullu, Bashmu, and the Primordial Nightmare.

Overview

Enchainers are incredibly powerful entities, being able to alter the rules of Hollows at will. Unlike Ethereals, the Enchainers are highly intelligent and capable of moving freely outside of Hollows.[1]

The Creator made the Enchainers by first creating the Karma Cores, which are the origin of their rule-altering powers. The Void Hunter Weapons were created from a Karma Core sealed in Porcelloy, and as such, can transform their users in to Enchainers. As the Void Hunter weapons and the Creator share the same origin, the side effects of the weapons are able to be lifted by the Creator's power, and the weapons can kill the Creator.[2] While an Enchainer can be killed, their Karma Core seemingly cannot be destroyed, and will endure after its Enchainer's death.

Beings that are on the cusp of becoming an Enchainer are known as Enchainer larvae, and include ultra-High-Risk Ethereals such as Primordial Nightmare - "The Creator", Girtablullu and Bashmu, but it is impossible to become an Enchainer without absorbing a Karma Core. They are thus still limited as Ethereals are, being unable to leave Hollows and being driven by instinct beyond some capacity for simple thought. Enchainer larvae are naturally driven to find and consume Karma Cores to further their evolution, even if they are sealed within Void Hunter Weapons.

Currently, only two Enchainers are known to exist. One was the first Enchainer slain by the original Void Hunters, whose Karma Core then became the subject of experiments by Helios Academy. The second was Beliora Vike, who became one due to said experiments and was killed by Remielle.[1] Remielle is herself in a state of being "half-Enchainer" due to partially fusing with the Karma Core inside Thaumiel and is at risk of fully transforming into an Enchainer due to continued usage of Thaumiel.[3][4] The Enchainer Larva Bashmu, having absorbed a fragment of the Karma Core once held by Sunbringer, is progressing towards becoming a fully fledged Enchainer.

History

The Karma Cores were first created by The Creator, and became the basis for their Enchainers, with one core corresponding to each of the Great Hollows. One Enchainer was slain by the original Void Hunters, and its Karma Core was then taken into custody. After being subsumed in Porcelloy, this core became the basis for the Void Hunter Weapons, and Helios Academy, in a project helmed by Sunbringer and Arche called "Project Sunseeker", attempted to create Artificial Enchainers who could use the powers of an Enchainer to fight back against The Creator.[5]

This ultimately ended in tragedy, as Colonel Vike was corrupted and fully transformed into an Enchainer, losing her humanity and destroying anything in her path before she was slain by Remielle, going on to be known as the Day of Silence.[6] Experiments with the Karma Cores continued however, and at some point, Sunbringer took the Karma Core she bore and fragmented it into three parts, which then were infused into her three new selves: Eldreda Sunbringer, Lindverne Sunbringer and Dracaene Sunbringer, making the three effectively living Void Hunter weapons.[7]

After Sarah became the Primordial Nightmare, she sought to absorb the Qingming Sword's power to become an Enchainer, which would have resulted in her becoming the lord of the Lemnian Hollow, but it was slain through the efforts of Ye Shunguang, Zhao and Phaethon before it could achieve this.[8]

When Girtablullu forcibly fused with Dracaene Sunbringer's portion of the Karma Core, it evolved into a stronger form, but was killed by Remielle Dan and Phaethon. However, the Karma Core was not recovered as Bashmu ate Girtablullu's corpse and fled.[4]
