Aether and Lumine's Spaceship

Aether and Lumine's Spaceship is a point of interest located in Traveler's Crater, Lunar Highlands, Frost Moon, Nod-Krai.
It is the vehicle that the Traveler and their sibling boarded when they were traveling between worlds before arriving on Teyvat.[1] It originally landed in Nod-Krai hundreds of years ago, but has since been moved to the surface of the Frost Moon by the Heavenly Principles following the events of the Cataclysm.[2]
The spaceship is originally part of a quest-exclusive visit to Traveler's Crater during the Archon Quest Welkin Moon's Homecoming in Song of the Welkin Moon: Act VIII - True Moon. It later becomes permanently accessible during the World Quest Series Moon Gazing.
Lore
Overview
The spaceship is a relic from the Traveler's original world. It was created for the purposes of interstellar travel, and made of an unknown material that rendered it impervious to all kinds of damage. It was equipped with a genetic vault, as well as a Hibernation Chamber which could only be accessed via two special keys belonging to each of the twins.[1]
The spaceship's maintenance, course and choice of destination was left under the control of a navigational AI which played the role of autopilot as the twins hibernated inside the ship. As a pioneer vessel, it was capable of terraforming an entire planet — modifying its lithosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere to make it suitable for supporting the spark of civilization. It also created new outfits for the slumbering twins in order to better protect them from the dangers of interstellar travel.[3] However, by the time the twins arrived in Teyvat, they no longer retained a clear memory of this entity.[4][Note 1]
Description
The spaceship is shaped like a four-pointed star, with the front and back points split down the middle into two sharp prongs on each side. Its body is primarily white with gold linings, and a blue cockpit dome sits at the center. The design bears a close resemblance to Celestial architecture, particularly the Nails and Teleport Waypoints.
Story
Ancient History
When the Traveler's home planet was destroyed, they embarked on the spaceship alongside their sibling on a journey through the sea of stars in hopes of finding a new world with "potential" upon which they could rebuild their civilization. The spaceship travelled through the cosmos for thousands of years, surveying countless planets, yet did not find any with the potential to resist eventual destruction.[3]
At some point during their journey, the twins intercepted a signal of goodwill sent from Teyvat by the Dragon civilization (as part of Project Moongazer on the Frost Moon); the Traveler sent back a reply promising they would attempt to make contact with the planet once their current engagements were sorted out.[5]
The spaceship's travel log states that it had already visited Teyvat once thousands of years ago, although at that time it did not land upon the planet and merely passed by from a distance. The Traveler speculates that their sibling may have disembarked during this first pass over Teyvat.[2]
Aeons later, the spaceship returned to Teyvat and was captured by the world's gravity. This event was recorded by the Universitas Magistrorum in Khaenri'ah, who reported their predictions about the expected orbital period and re-entry to King Irmin of the Eclipse Dynasty.[6] An indeterminate time afterwards, the spaceship (with the Traveler still slumbering inside it) eventually crash-landed upon Starsand Shoal in the region of Nod-Krai. The Traveler recalls sensing the power of kuuvahki for the first time as they entered Teyvat. The ship remained where it fell for a long time, enough to become overgrown with plant matter and be witnessed by multiple generations of the residents of Nod-Krai, who tried to strip it for parts but were unable to even create a dent upon it.[7]
Cataclysm
Five hundred years ago, during the events of the Cataclysm, the sibling inexplicably appeared outside the spaceship and awakened their twin. This confused the Traveler, as they could not recall ever leaving the spaceship, nor was the door to it open, yet their sibling had somehow gotten out.[7] In any case, both twins tried to flee Teyvat together, but they ended up being defeated and separated by Asmoday. Subsequently, the Heavenly Principles removed the spaceship from Nod-Krai and hid it upon the Frost Moon — which at that time existed beyond the false sky.[2]
While it is unknown how the Traveler's sibling managed to leave the spaceship in the first place, it is later revealed that during the Cataclysm they decided to abandon Khaenri'ah and fled to Nod-Krai to reunite with their twin after a Khaenri'an native named Direidyth provided them with a spaceship key as "proof" of having met the Traveler. [Note 2] This was all part of a scheme concocted by two of the Shades, Asmoday and Istaroth, to preserve the predestined time-loop of the Cataclysm; for they knew that as long as the sibling was shown the key, they would become too distracted by the prospect of finding the Traveler to interfere with the Heavenly Principles' punishment for Khaenri'ah.[8]
Present Day
During the events of the Archon Quest Chapter V: Act VI - A Space and Time for You, both twins learn the truth when their memories briefly intersect during the operation of the Loom of Fate in Natlan. By that point, the sibling is fully committed to rebuild Khaenri'ah and challenge the Heavenly Principles. If the Traveler tries to change their past (and fate) by witholding their key, the sibling overrides their will by providing their own key to Direidyth; this is because the sibling's plans require them to have made the choice to find the Traveler at all costs. The Traveler later discovers their sibling's key on the person of a hilichurl near the Collective of Plenty, who is heavily implied to be Direidyth transformed by the curse of the wilderness.[8][Note 3]
During the Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon, upon visiting Nod-Krai,the Traveler immediately recognizes the familiar feeling of kuuvahki and has a fragmented vision of the time their spaceship landed onto Teyvat. Looking to investigate this further, they involve themselves with the Nod-Krai cast in order to obtain more information about their spaceship, including exploring a kuuvahki afterimage of it following the anomalies with the Wild Hunt.[9] With the help of Lauma and Columbina, they are able to use the powers of the Eternal Moon's Marrow to peer into the past and see the moments when their ship landed onto Teyvat, rested upon Starsand Shoal, and was eventually approached from the outside by the Sibling.[7]
When Columbina is reborn as the Trilune Goddess of Teyvat during Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act VIII - True Moon and the Frost Moon is restored underneath the False Sky, she discovers that the Traveler's spaceship is actually on the Moon, and was put there by the Heavenly Principles for unknown reasons. She then takes the Traveler directly to the moon, where they finally find their spaceship and access its records to learn the truth.[2]

Both sources describe a long interstellar journey across countless worlds, witnessing the birth and death of stars, and searching for a world with “potential.” Additionally, the outfit description states that the spaceship created protective garments for the twins to shield them from the dangers of interstellar travel, while the Wings of Descension includes direct dialogue from an unidentified speaker saying, “Your journey will become very dangerous from now on,” and “I don’t know if this cloth will do anything to protect you, but…” before providing them with protective clothing. The shared emphasis on interstellar hazards, protective garments, and a guiding presence suggests that the speaker in the Wings of Descension may be the same entity responsible for operating the twins’ spaceship.
- ↑ Depending on the player's choices, the key that was in Direidyth's possession was given to her by either the Traveler from 500 years in the future, or the sibling themself at the time of the Cataclysm.
