Columbina/Storyline

Last updated 2026-09-05

Columbina Hyposelenia (born Kuutar), also known as the Moon Maiden and by her former Fatui codename "The Damselette," is the Moon Goddess of Nod-Krai. She was formerly the Third of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers.

Kuutar was born on Hiisi Island 400–500 years ago, and was subsequently adopted by the Frostmoon Scions as their god. Around a century later, she chose to leave the Frostmoon Scions after growing disillusioned with them, and instead joined the Fatui, where she was appointed as the Harbinger Columbina. During her time in the Fatui, she developed new relationships with some of her colleagues, notably Sandrone. However, upon being made to give up much of her power at the Tsaritsa's behest, she concluded that they only sought her power, after which she left the Fatui and began hiding in the Silvermoon Hall at Hiisi Island to rest and recover her strength.

Columbina was eventually found in Silvermoon Hall by the Traveler, whom she later befriended. Soon afterwards, Rerir managed to revive himself in a physical body, and began to hunt her, though he was eventually defeated. After being captured by Dottore, in order to deny him usage of the Three Moons' powers, she chose to enter a Moon Gate, which transported her to the Moon's Reflection. As time flows backwards within the Moon's Reflection, she was able to meet the Three Moon Sisters who had been imprisoned there by Nibelung during the war of funerary flame. After the Sisters agreed to transfer their authorities to her, she became the Trilune Goddess with the powers and authority of all Three Moon Goddesses. During the battle against Dottore in Nod-Krai, she was revived in the present day through the assistance of her friends, and together they defeated him with her newfound powers.

Profile

Columbina is the Trilune Goddess, who possesses the Trilunar Authority that Nibelung bestowed to the Three Moons to govern Teyvat and the Light Realm.[7] She was originally the Goddess of the Frost Moon,[5][8] but was granted the power and authority of all Three Moon Goddesses after they transferred their lunar authorities to her, making her the Trilune Goddess, now having supreme authority over the Light Realm and the World of Teyvat.[7] She was worshiped as the Moon Maiden Kuutar by the Frostmoon Scions,[9] who acknowledge her as the New Moon and successor of Canon.[10][11] They pray to her for protection, and they have carved multiple statues across Nod-Krai in her image, called "Statues of the New Moon."[12]

She was temporarily the Third of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers, where she operated under the name Columbina and codename The Damselette.[9] Columbina was never sent on any missions as a Harbinger, and was kept around by the Tsaritsa primarily for her powers as a Moon Goddess. She generally had cordial relationships with the other Harbingers, primarily Sandrone, Arlecchino, and Signora,[13] while she also participated in Sandrone's tea parties with Tartaglia and Capitano.[14] Tartaglia was wary of her due to her high ranking despite rarely displaying her power,[15] while the Wanderer regarded her as oblivious and unconcerned with her surroundings.[16]

As a Moon Goddess, Columbina has the ability to use the power of the Light Realm.[17] In battle, Columbina's power manifests in a form similar to Hydro, very likely in the form of Archaeolune Energy.[18][19][Note 1] The Kuuvahki present in Nod-Krai is only the manifestation of Columbina's body, which she once turned into pure moonlight and poured it into Nod-Krai during the war of funerary flame when she was trapped within the Moon's Reflection. Due to the Frost Moon being sealed beyond the false sky, as well as her lack of the trilune authority before, along her innate existence being constantly rejected by the planet for not having any connection with this world,[8] Columbina was originally unable to access her full potential power as a Moon Goddess.[5] Nonetheless, she still held power comparable to that of other gods.[20] After fulfilling an unspecified agreement with the Tsaritsa, she lost much of her strength;[21] however, after drawing upon the energy within the Moon Marrows possessed by the Traveler and Arlecchino, she restored her power to a level beyond what she originally had as the Third Harbinger in preparation to fight Rerir,[22] before exhausting it.[23] After obtaining the authorities from the other Three Moon Sisters, she became the Trilune Goddess possessing the Trilune Authority.[7]

After leaving the Fatui, Columbina has taken up residence at the Silvermoon Hall in Hiisi Island, where she periodically receives visits from the Traveler and Paimon.[24]

Personality

Due to her isolated past both from her time in the Frostmoon Scions and in the Fatui, Columbina has very poor social skills, that translate on her being seen as mysterious and weird by others. According to Tartaglia and Scaramouche (as his current incarnation as the Wanderer), Columbina is supposedly a dangerous, yet enigmatic being, with both warning the Traveler to be cautious around her. However, Arlecchino finds her an interesting and special being.

She has little to no filter when it comes to interacting with other people, commenting on Dottore's youthful appearance, much to his dismay, and jokingly saying that Sandrone should be drinking oil instead of coffee, what led her to being cursed out by her fellow Harbinger (a memory that Columbina is not too fond of remembering). This characteristic, added to her innocent demeanor, gives her a snarky and amusing personality. Nonetheless, Columbina appreciates those she considers her friends, having been taught numerous lessons from them.

After being previously considered the reincarnation of the Frost Moon Goddess by the Frostmoon Scions, Columbina has some resentment for being treated as one, because the Frostmoon Scions from old used to ask for more than she could give, which was what made her eventually join the Fatui, only to have her powers used for their goals. Due to not feeling like she truly belonged with either the Frostmoon Scions or the Fatui, she did not identify with any of the numerous names and titles that they had bestowed upon her.[25] Consequently, she told the Traveler that they may address her with whichever name they want.[25] Later on, she eventually came to accept "Columbina" as the name used for her by her newfound friends, ultimately choosing to adopt "Columbina Hyposelenia" as her real name.[26]

Another trait of Columbina is her strong connection with nature; she is able to communicate with the kuuhenki, and the flowers in Silvermoon Hall change color according to her current state: when she is angry or feels unsafe, the flowers turn red, and when she is weakened, they turn white. She also prefers food closest to their natural state, such as fresh berries, bread, and vegetables, and dislikes strong spirits such as Fire-Water.

Appearance

Columbina uses the medium female model. She has pale skin and long black hair with dark pink/magenta highlights, tied into two side-plaits resting just over her shoulders with white ribbon around it in an X-shape. Columbina usually keeps her eyes closed, as she typically "sees" everything through kuuvahki. Rarely, she opens her eyes (unless in areas outside of Snezhnaya, where it is implied that kuuvahki is less prevalent), revealing to be a light pink and a nearly pearl-like color with blurry-like pupils and a crescent-shaped highlight under it.

She leaves behind white feathers that quickly dissipates when she teleports herself or other people. In her second fight against Rerir, she leaves behind a trail of small constellations that is similar to Paimon's when she moves.[27]

History

Pre-Fatui Life

Kuutar was born from the kuuvahki within the Sanctum of the Oathbearer 400–500 years ago,[28][29] in fulfillment of a prophecy stating that a new Moon Goddess would one day be born.[5] She does not remember the circumstances of her birth, aside from a particular song that was sung, which she would hum periodically. Her birth was witnessed by Aila, and she subsequently agreed to live with the Frostmoon Scions.[28] During her time with the Frostmoon Scions, they felt entitled to her power and cared little about her as a person, instead pressuring her into granting their prayers by giving her unwanted offerings.[21][8]

Fatui Recruitment

Around 350–400 years ago,[30][Note 2] Kuutar came to believe that she could no longer satisfy the demands of the Frostmoon Scions and decided to leave them,[31] instead joining the Fatui at Snezhnaya, where the Tsaritsa offered her a "second home." Abandoning the name "Kuutar," she was made into the Third Harbinger, and was given the codenames "Columbina" and "The Damselette" by the Tsaritsa.[9] While serving in the Fatui, unlike many of her colleagues, she was never sent on any missions, but was simply kept in Snezhnaya without much to do aside from helping Dottore with kuuvahki and Light Realm-related projects, though she stopped working with him after sensing that he had malevolent intent and would try to avoid him when possible. In addition, when she asked the Tsaritsa when she can start the task assigned to her, she was told that "the time has not yet come".[32] Nonetheless, she would appreciate some of her colleagues' company, particularly Sandrone. When she met Arlecchino, she used to creep up on her as a means of "testing" her. Columbina tried to do the same to her but was unable to until she used kuuvahki, which appeared to have frightened her to the point that she no longer did so. She also learned about Arlecchino's status as a Crimson Moon Dynasty descendant. She also had some interactions with Signora, who taught her to express gratitude to others.[13]

Shortly before the start of the Traveler's journey, Columbina attended a performance, "The Mountain Sparrow," by the Korolevskiy Troupe, with Signora, Sandrone, Dottore, and Pantalone. A short time later, every Harbinger including Columbina attended a meeting in which Pierro outlined the Tsaritsa's plan to collect all the Gnoses. After the meeting, Columbina, Arlecchino, and Signora had a tea party in Sandrone's bedroom, in order to comfort her—as she had been visibly preoccupied with sadness over Alain Guillotin.[33]

Unlike many of the other Harbingers, who were sent abroad to retrieve the Gnoses from the Archons of the other six nations, Columbina continued to remain stationed within Snezhnaya without any assigned tasks.[13]

At some point after Scaramouche obtained the Electro Gnosis and cut off contact from the Fatui,[34] she and her fellow Harbingers attended Rosalyne's funeral. After the ceremony ended, she commented about Dottore's youthful appearance and asked him about the "segment in the prime of his life."[35][Note 3]

After Capitano's merger with Yohualtecuhtin, Lord of the Night, Columbina, along with Dottore and Sandrone, were dispatched to Nod-Krai to work on a project.[36] Around this time, the Tsaritsa called upon Columbina to fulfill the task she assigned to her, which used up much of Columbina's divine power.[37]

Post-Fatui Life

After realizing the Fatui were no different from the Frostmoon Scions that used to worship her, and believing she had no more obligations to the Fatui, Columbina left the organization and returned to Hiisi Island. She was also of the opinion at the time that the other Harbingers that she was more friendly with were so only because they were all forced to work together.[38] The subordinates originally under her command were transferred to Dottore.[37] There, she met Lauma, who apologized on behalf of her ancestors and had her hide in Silvermoon Hall to rest and recover her strength from completing the Tsaritsa's task.[21] The Fatui, disapproving of her departure, issued the "Palestar Edict"—the highest of the Tsaritsa's commands—in order to recover her at any cost.[39] While most rank-and-file Fatui appeared to prioritize the order, Columbina's colleagues were not as interested.

Columbina would later meet the Traveler after they were brought to her by a Luonnotar. She answered a few questions for them in the process, though she became displeased when the Traveler asked about the Fatui, prompting the Traveler to drop the subject.[21] She later helped them recover a memory of the spaceship they used to arrive on Teyvat. Upon learning of The Wild Hunt, Columbina told them that their enemy was the "Rächer of Solnari," who the two recognized as Rerir. She told them she had only learned of this name from her colleagues.[5]

During a battle against Rerir on Starsand Shoal, Columbina used her power to remotely teleport the Traveler, Paimon, Flins, Sandrone, and Pulonia to her residence in the Silvermoon Hall before he could kill them, resulting in Sandrone criticizing her for interrupting their fight.[40] Sandrone eventually left with Pulonia on her own accord, while Flins thanked her for their rescue.[40] As the Traveler and Paimon left, she clutched her chest, realizing that she didn't have enough time left.[40] Later, she met with the Traveler and Paimon in Nasha Town, since the Fatui were too busy and her colleagues likely had no interest in capturing her.[41] She also believed that someone or something was intentionally hiding their spaceship and expressed a desire to return to the moon to find answers.[41]

A while after these events, the Traveler would meet with Columbina, learning more about her past. They helped a kuuhenki, Maalaus, get some materials for painting, who created art of Columbina when she was worshiped by the Frostmoon Scions.[42] Later, another kuuhenki's lyre had broken, so Columbina agreed to have the Traveler head to an artisan's house with her to get it repaired. They quickly discerned that the artisan was Aino, who was terrified upon seeing the lyre as she had often seen it appear mysteriously and disappear just as mysteriously after she repaired it. While Aino was fixing the lyre, Columbina inexplicably appeared and gave the Traveler some trinkets to give as a sign of thanks, only for Ineffa to walk in on them. Columbina quickly hid behind the Traveler, while Ineffa recognized her as the Moon Goddess from the likenesses of the Statues of the New Moon. Aino failed to recognize her, but thanked her for the trinkets she gave and that she was welcome to return any time.[43] Columbina was later decorating the field in the hall with the kuuhenki when the Traveler stopped by to visit her, learning that she needed more Rainbowdrop Crystals to finish her temporary mural. While gathering the stones, they came upon a lost child from the Frostmoon Scions; not wanting to scare her, Columbina used the stones to create a path for the child to point the way home.[44] As Columbina is having an afternoon nap, her knee was bumped by a male Chic Badger, who was found at the entrance of her cave by the Traveler and Paimon. While revealing that she can also talk to animals, she relates that the badger was being chased by monsters when he was searching for Lauma. They then went to the Frostmoon Enclave where Lauma is doing some requests from her people. While waiting, Columbina learned that the motto has changed since she last heard it in the past when Lauma said "May the moonlight connect us". Upon meeting and leaving the badger with Lauma, Columbina expressed gratitude that the Scions have changed.[45]

Rerir would later attack Columbina, and even with the Traveler, Flins and Lauma helping her, they were easily overpowered by him.[8] Rerir fired a projectile at Jahoda, but Columbina managed to shove her out of the way while taking a minor injury in the process.[8] Since they could not fight him, she agreed with Jahoda's suggestion to run.[8] Upon meeting with the Northern Intelligence Network, Columbina decided to visit the Kuuvahki Experimental Design Bureau and asked Sandrone to help her arrange a meeting with Arlecchino, as she would have access to the Iridescent Moon Marrow which would help further restore her strength.[14] When Arlecchino arrived, she saved her and the Traveler from the Wild Hunt and later helped them retrieve the Iridescent Moon Marrow from the Crimson Moon subspace, restoring Columbina's power to the level it was back when she was in the Fatui; in return, Columbina entrusted the Iridescent Moon Marrow to Arlecchino.[22] Columbina remarked that it was still not enough to overpower Rerir, but a plan concieved by and carried out by Albedo with Durin's assistance using alchemy allowed her to siphon power from him and expel him from Teyvat with Dainsleif's assistance.[18]

Shortly after Rerir's expulsion, Columbina's strength began to rapidly fade, though she hoped she would last long enough to partake in the Moon-Prayer Night festival at which time the kuuvahki would be at its strongest, so she could return to the Frost Moon beyond the false sky.[23] However, her form began to quickly fade due to Teyvat's rejection, and after an initial visit by the Traveler, was barely able to maintain herself.[46] Believing that her time was up, she decided to take a final stroll across the land before running into the Traveler and passing through them.[46] The Traveler appeared to sense her, and seeing this, Columbina decided to follow them, though she found herself unable to enter the Hyperborean temple.[46] Returning to Silvermoon Hall to meet her end, she soon found the Traveler calling for her name, allowing her physical form to be restored. Reuniting with them, she decided to give herself the name Columbina Hyposelenia.[26]

She later partook in the Moon-Prayer festival and after spending some time with her friends, she prepared to leave. She was intercepted by Dottore, who then froze time to stop everyone but the Traveler and began overpowering them. Realizing he was drawing his power from her and with no choice, Columbina willingly took herself out of the equation and fell into the moon's reflection, stopping Dottore from fully harnessing his new power and causing him to retreat. The rest of the group swore to stop Dottore and pinpoint her whereabouts.[47]

Inside the moon's reflection, Columbina tried to influence various events, realizing that she was the cause of various unexplained events that had occurred recently. She discovered that she was travelling backwards in time and sought to find a way to inform her friends of what was going on. She eventually achieved this by leaving a message in the Traveler's room after they defeated Rerir, which was later discovered by Nefer and Flins in the present. During her journey, she ran into Rerir, immediately being on guard from him. Rerir apologized for his actions, revealing that Dottore had revived him and that after meeting Dainsleif, he decided to stop running from his fears. He helped remove several obstacles in her path and asked her to give a message to Tholindis. She did so and Tholindis guided her further down the path where she was soon discovered by Sonnet. Sonnet brought her to Canon and Aria, where Columbina told them of the events that would happen in the future. She asked for their powers and authorities to return home and defeat Dottore, which they agreed to after seeing her resolve. She also gave them their final wish to return to Teyvat and rest in peace in their home, where they without their lunar authorities, disappeared slowly until become only the moon marrows, and then Columbina herself executed her plan to return to Teyvat, coupled with Sandrone's World-Formula working their computation, she was able to return back to Teyvat at the most anticipated moment where all of the formula's conditional events were successfully met.[48]

Columbina and her friends overpowered Dottore before she seemingly kills him with a large beam of Kuuvahki energy. Following the battle, she noticed Sandrone lying on the floor and cradled her in her arms. While saddened at the loss of her friend (even trying and failing to use her trilune authority to revive her),[49] she gave words of encouragement to Arlecchino, who appreciated her new growth.

Since the implementation of the Palestar Edict had been abused by Dottore to seize Columbina’s power, the Tsaritsa revoked the warrant on her, letting her go as she pleased. She then had the Traveler meet her on Hiisi Island, having decided to live with the Frostmoon Scions once again. She brought them to the Frost Moon and revealed that their spaceship had been placed there by the Heavenly Principles, either because something there was incompatible with Teyvat or there were secrets they wished to keep hidden. As they gazed at the planet, the Traveler asked Columbina a few more questions about their next destination, Snezhnaya.[50]

Columbina then returned to Silvermoon Hall and revived Luonnotar, giving her free will and passing down the memories it had of the Traveler.[51] Later on, Lauma had a large amount of food delivered to her while having the statue of her adorned with wings. The Frostmoon Scions finished the project and Lauma sent a Longplume Ibis to inform her to come, while the Traveler asked her to not use kuuvahki to sense her surroundings. They arrived at the newly refurbished statue, where she opened her eyes to look at it, appreciating the new design before Lauma invited her to a feast, which she accepted.[52] Later, she took Maalaus to the Frost Moon, who created a painting of the Traveler and Columbina observing Teyvat from the moon. Columbina considered both the Frost Moon and Teyvat her homes and planned to bring more kuuhenki to the moon.[53] The Traveler later played Moon Chess and a new game with her. She then took an interest in cooking; although a bit inexperienced, she was a quick learner and secretly slipped gifts for her friends and gave the Traveler a new wind glider for their companionship.[54]

When a new Wild Hunt outbreak emerged, lead by an imitation of Roland created by the Abyss, Columbina checked into the Moon's Reflection to confirm that Rerir was not involved.[55]

During Sunny Summer Fontinalia, she headed to the Curatorium of Secret and learned from Nefer that the Fontinalia Film Festival was being held in Fontaine. Columbina decided to go there, aware that Sandrone originated from Fontaine and sought to find her. Upon her arrival there, she overheard a conversation between Xavier, Furina, Chiori, Chevreuse, and Paimon. Xavier decides that Columbina has been chosen to be the lead actress for the film "A Homecoming", but they are struggling to find a suitable location to film. She learns a Fontainian greeting when Wriothesley suggests that the Wingalet could be used as a filming location.[56] During the shooting of the film, Columbina sensed Sandrone's presence but could not physically find her. When Sandrone finished up resolving her anomalies, Columbina was able to confirm her presence and teleported her to her domain. Surprised to see her, she wondered why Sandrone had avoided her, only to be inexplicably grabbed and hugged by the Harbinger. Columbina was delighted to reunite with her and returned to Teyvat, where Xavier captured the photo and she introduced Sandrone to the crew, explaining that she was the friend she was looking for.

After the film wrapped up and lost the Furina Award to "Great Detective Hurlock" starring Charlotte, Columbina travels with the Traveler and Sandrone to Alain's gravesite. They then return to the Wingalet to attend a party, where she was introduced to more of the Traveler's acquaintances. She also met Neuvillette, and after seeing him in person (as he was referred to as the "dragon that cries" in Fatui files) and learning why he put people in prison, her perspective of him changed, as she had assumed he was like Nibelung and threw people in prison.[57] Columbina later attends a photo shoot from Lepine-Pauline alongside Veronique and those who contributed to the creation of the film.[58]

During Moon Gazing, she goes to the Frost Moon, where she encounter Ninnin[59]. Later on, she would assist the Traveler and Ninnin in their investigation into Project Moongazer on the Frost Moon[60]. As the group discover the true nature of Project Moongazer, she use her power to help Ninnin completing her mission[61]

After activating Project Moongazer, she wait for the Traveler at Traveler's Crater, and make a promise with the Traveler to accompany and help them should they ever decide to return to their birth place[62].

Trivia

  • Columbina hates drinking coffee,[63][64] but likes how it smells.[17] She was likely introduced to it by Sandrone.
  • Before completing the Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act VIII - True Moon, Columbina's Profile section lists the source of her Hydro powers and constellation as "???" After completing it, the power source and constellation are revealed to be "Tri-Lunar Convergence" and "Columbina Hyposelenia," respectively.
  • Prior to Archon Quest Song of the Welkin Moon: Act VIII - True Moon, Columbina kept her eyes closed, stating she did not wish to see the world that was built upon lies and falsehood.[65] She uses kuuvahki to sense the world around her, which in some ways is superior to physical sight (such as finding hidden mechanisms).
    • This did not directly explain how Arlecchino was able to sneak up on her time and again after they first met, but perhaps her kuuvahki sense is not always active.
    • Later, in the Sunny Summer Fontinalia quest, Sandrone explains that, compared to her longtime observations of Columbina in Snezhnaya, her heightened senses are limited to Nod-Krai because kuuvahki is everywhere there. Otherwise, unless she activates her powers, her range of perception only matches that of a normal person. It is likely that Arlecchino's actions simply occurred when they were in Snezhnaya.
  • The melody Columbina sings in A Winter Night's Lazzo is a rendition of the melodies of Chrysalis Suspirii and Saltatio Favillae, both of which are played during the battle with La Signora in Narukami Island: Tenshukaku.
  • The questions asked to Columbina in her Character Detail are references to Flins's questions to her in the Archon Quest The Night the Moon Returns Home.
  • Her headpiece mimics that of an angel's wings, specifically a seraph's.
  • The pattern on her eye mask and headband are similar in appearance to the pattern on the bottom of a Seelie Court.
  • If the player owns Columbina, her figure will replace the nameless moon maiden on the Blessing of the Welkin Moon.
  • Columbina is the first character to not have stars for her constellations. She has phases of the moon instead.
  • Columbina is the first playable deity in Genshin Impact to not be a part of The Seven.
    • Although characters like Xiangling may have some divine connection (Guoba, for example), they are not Gods themselves.
  • Columbina's title "Lord of the Crossroads" is shared with the Lord of the Night,[66] who has various other connections to the moon:
    • Yohualtecuhtin is said to have taken three silver strands of moonlight from her master's hands.[67]
    • Yohualtecuhtin's spectral form closely resembles the Kuuvahki Dewdrops encountered during the World Quest Whisper Beneath the Waves.
    • The waters and borders of the Night Kingdom closely resemble Kuuvahki.
  • The title "Lord of the Crossroads" has an analogue in the epithet "Trivia" shared by Columbina's elder sisters,[68] which is a Latin title used for goddesses that protected the crossroads.
  • Her title and status as the Trilune Goddess is potentially a reference to the triune Triple Goddess from Neopaganism and Wicca, a syncretic 20th-century religion. The Wiccan Triple Goddess is based on the mythological archetype of the triple deity, primarily Hecate and the Fates from Greek mythology.
    • The Moon Sisters are also based on the Triple Goddess and the triple deity archetype.
    • Columbina seems to be heavily inspired on Kaguya-hime (かぐや姫, "Princess Kaguya") from The Tale of Princess Kaguya (かぐや姫の物語, Kaguya-hime no Monogatari), from Japanese Mythology, thought to be the oldest Japanese folktale. Both Kaguya and Columbina shares many strong similarities in everything, such as design, character and story. Both are immortal and heavenly divine beings associated with the moon, both are described as extraordinarily beautiful young women with pale skin and a straight, long black hair, Kaguya being even described wearing a ethereal, celestial robe with feathers when she returned to the moon, and Columbina wears an outfit of same style and aesthetic. Even their stories and journeys are very similar, with both being born or at least appearing mysteriously on the world, then living and experiencing a life in the world along the humans, until they eventually develop the longing and desire to return to their true home - the moon, both had bad experiences with the humans around them, such as the heavy weight of expectations of others or people being attracted by them only for superficial reasons, yet both also developed love, affection and attachment for this world and for some humans they befriended, and both are seen and described as very distant and detached figures most of time, while always very elegant and ethereal, due to their true nature and essence as heavenly and divine beings.

Etymology

  • In commedia dell'arte, a type of Italian theater, Columbina (Italian: Colombina "Little Dove") is a female servant who is often the "only functional intellect on the stage" as she does her best to get the Innamorati together.
  • Kuutar (meaning "Lady Moon"), is the Finnish goddess of the Moon. She is said to own the gold of the Moon, spinning golden yarns, and weaving clothes out of them. Additionally, she represents the New Moon.
  • Hyposelenia, her epithet, is derived from the ancient Greek prefix ῠ̔πο- (hŭpo-), meaning "beneath" or "under", σελήνη (selḗnē), meaning "Moon" as well as being the name of the Greek Moon Goddess, and the suffix -ῐ́ᾱ (-ĭ́ā), which the addition of makes a feminine noun. All together they mean "Beneath/Under the Moon".
    • In addition, one of Columbina's titles (Lord of the Crossroads) is based on various Greek Moon Goddesses, particularly Hecate, who is associated with crossroads, magic, and sorcery.
    • In game, Columbina stated that the name Hyposelenia meant "Born Beneath the Moon", with the "Born..." part of it most likely being an implied additive.

Notes

  1. As a playable character, Columbina is classified as Hydro for the purposes of gameplay. Her power also takes on an appearance resembling Hydro during her battles against Rerir and Dottore. However, the modern system of seven elements is an adaptation imposed by the Heavenly Principles that split the primordial energies of the Light Realm into seven distinct forms. Therefore, Columbina does not actually use elemental Hydro power.
  2. Columbina is indicated to have joined the Fatui during the lifetime of the original Zandik, though after he had created several Segments, which places her join date at some point after Dottore's involvement in the Tatarasuna Mystery 400 years ago.
  3. The dialogue in the video, "So, where's the Segment in the prime of his life, then?" matches the dialogue quoted in her Japanese VA announcement.
