Current Intel

Mandrake derive their name from a toxic herb. The scholar who initially assigned the name believed there was a resemblance between the two solely based on their appearance.
While blooming, Mandrake emit heat rays targeting nearby objects, while sturdy leaves anchor it firmly to the ground, preventing uprooting. When threatened, Mandrake may use their sharp leaves for self-defense.
Similar to the legend of their namesake, Mandrake cries can be highly deadly.
"Stay away! It's gonna bloom any second now!"
—Mandrake blooming in the movie Deep Fear

Trivia

Etymology

  • The word mandrake is used to refer to both the root and the whole plant of the genus Mandragora and other species of similar properties. The humanoid form of the root of Mandragora, combined with its hallucinogenic properties, gave rise to its usage as an amulet or potion ingredient, and also the European folklore belief of the mandrakes being creatures who scream upon being dug up, killing anyone who hears their shriek.
