Taxonomy

Last updated 2026-02-07

Taxonomy is the scientific study of genetic relationships between groups of organisms and classifying said relationships.

Note that despite Honkai: Star Rail's biological information being based off real-life Linnaean taxonomy, a lot of it is completely incongruent with actual terminology and methods of classification. Additionally, given the differences between real world biology and the fictional one presented in the game, interpolation based off real-life taxonomy should be avoided — for instance, while real-life primates are known to be mammals, as long as they're not stated to be mammals in the game, that should not be mentioned.

Primate

Primates are generally treated as an order,[1] though occasionally they have been referred to as species[2] or a suborder[3] instead. Regardless of what they are considered, underneath them is the family of Hominids,[1][2][4] and even further below, there are several species and subspecies in the genus Homo,[4][5] of which members are known as "humans."[6]

The only mentioned species in the genus Homo is Homo sapiens, which has at least two known subspecies: Σ and sapiens.[5] Other subspecies include:

Spiritual Organism

Spiritual Organism is a kingdom to which belongs the class Astral Spirit, to which belongs the order Shapeless, to which belongs the family Spirit Essence, and lastly to which belongs the species Heliobus[9] and subspecies Heliobus.[10] These organisms are more commonly known as energy lifeforms.[11]

  • Heliobi belong to the sub-species Heliobus, listed directly under their family Spirit Essence[10]
  • Wubbaboos belong to the species Heliobus, Galactic Species Serial Number Spiritual #415[9]
  • The Phase Flame, created by Sserkal of the Genius Society, is also classified under Spiritual Organisms.[12]
    • Duke Inferno, as a scion of the Phase Flame, is also considered a Spiritual Organism.[13]

Inorganic Organism

Inorganic Organism is a kingdom.[14]

To that kingdom belong several groups of inorganic lifeforms:

  • Intellitrons[15] (with unclear taxonomy beyond that)
  • Tottonids, which belong to the class Silica, order Monotectoid, family Petragigas.[14] The Tottonids are classified with Galactic Species Serial Number: Inorganic #27.

Not every robot is inherently considered a silicon-based lifeform, though it is possible for robots to evolve into the status of such, and according to Screwllum, robots on Jarilo-VI have a chance of becoming silicon-based lifeforms.[16]

Many inorganic lifeforms have participated in the Mechanical Emperor's Wars.

Coleoptera

Coleoptera are an unspecified group of organisms (though in real life they are an order also known as simply beetles).

To that group belong Funeral Worms, which are specified to be subspecies of Coleoptera,[17] and the Swarm.[18]
