The solitary waves theory[Note 1] is a scientific theory in the universe of Honkai: Star Rail.
Profile
The theory was to find the answer to the fourth Cosmic Conundrum: "Is the universe predetermined or not?"[1]
This theory is based on a wave that permeates in the Imaginary background. Born from an unknown point, and disappears beyond an unfathomable range, which if the experiment is in it, there will always be a mysterious error. This wave was always identical, never decayed, and was unaffected by the distortion of space time.[1] This wave is a Moment extrapolated by Nous.[2]
The problem was eventually solved by Herta during her childhood.[3]
History
No matter which laboratory Patavia was relocated at, an unknown signal always appeared every thirteen minutes.[4] In a discussion with a multidimensional research scholar, she finally ascertains the signal's true nature.[1]
After discovering the core of the Scepters, she peeked into the mindscape of Nous.[5] While she was not able to comprehend the knowledge, she was able to inscribe a formula on an iron sheet, eventually being the solitary wave theory.[6][7]
Almost a hundred Amber Eras later, the solitary waves theory was solved by Herta, which made her a Genius Society member.[6]
When she found the solution, she encountered a constant: When the universe's unstable index exceeds it, the future would be chaotic and unknown and if the universe's unstable index is less than it, the future would be on an ascertained trajectory. However, since there are various Paths that constantly press against each other, it causes the constant to be rewritten, which leaves the fourth Cosmic Conundrum unanswered.[8]
