Steelclaw Beasts, also known as Bladed Black Velvets, are a species of mole-like creatures that once inhabited the planet Amphoreus.
Description
Biology
The Steelclaw Beasts were a species of mole-like creatures with massive, sturdy claws capable of shattering finely crafted weapons in a single swipe. The Steelclaw Dagger is a weapon inspired by their claws, used by the Kremnoan warriors of Castrum Kremnos
Culture
The Steelclaw Beasts are in some way connected to Georios, with Ferrum of the Three Hundred Rogues of Dolos having a notable ancestry with priests of Georios.
History
The exact history of the Steelclaw Beasts is unclear, other than some existing in the city-state of Hattusili as priests of Georios.
Due to their notoriety, certain families of Castrum Kremnos saw slaying a Steelclaw Beast as a coming-of-age ritual. Thus, they hunted the species to near-extinction, only stopping when Black Tide creatures became far more prevalent.[1] Because of their change in targets, those remaining were able to live out their lives without fear, with Ferrum going on to use his skills in the name of Zagreus.
In one of Bartholos' stories, he claims he turned into a Steelclaw Beast to steal a "secret fruit" of Georios.[2]
