Destruction Equation

The Destruction Equation is an equation and a byproduct of The Amphoreus Experiment.

The Destruction Equation aimed to prove Destruction as the prime mover of life.^[1]

Overview

The Destruction Equation, is a product of the second phase of The Amphoreus Experiment, conducted under the oversight of Lygus.^[2]

The Destruction Equation, in its completed form, is able to infect organic lifeforms and randomize the established laws of logic into chaos. Its cascading effects also dismantle the essential structures of individual lifeforms. However, below a certain threshold, the Destruction Equation can be rendered harmless through the use of digital vaccines.^[3] In its incomplete form, however, it only infects the functions of inorganic beings, rendering them into chaotic processes.^[4][5]

Black Tide

In the Amphoreus Experiment, the Destruction Equation manifests as the black tide, not as a physical entity, but as a visual phenomenon within the simulated world and an emergent effect of the Destruction Equation's spreading infection. By the 176,100th extrapolation cycle, systemic chaos of the simulated world had surpassed a critical threshold, triggering a mutation and evolution within the Destruction Equation itself. Simulated spaces that could no longer withstand the mounting strain began exhibiting the black tide in the form of graphical distortions. Likewise, infected data constructs showed signs of erosion, marked by the same corruptive decay.^[2]

In-game, the black tide can damage the player's characters as corrosion (for most Black Tide creatures) or as a bleed (Abyssal Sea Siren). In the case of the former, this is dealt as actual damage with a percentage of the health being corroded, indicated by a dark red bar. A character afflicted by corrosion can remove it by attacking to restore the corroded health. In the case of the latter, some of the damage inflicted is instead stored as a bleed which damages them at the start of their turn. Both of these can be removed by healing the character.

History

Cosmos

Black tide was introduced in the second phase of the Amphoreus Experiment.^[2]

A copy of the Destruction Equation from phase one was deployed in the Lacteris Nebula. After approximately 2,811 system hours, surrounding civilizations had fully suppressed and erased the equation. 97% of Lacteris fell into systemic collapse.^[6]

At phase two's conclusion, a copy of the Destruction Equation was deployed across 31 worlds. While the Destruction Equation's impact was limited to inorganics, the time required for suppression and counteraction has significantly increased.^[5]

Subsequently, it became a driving force behind the third phase of the Amphoreus Experiment. During the 11,749,992nd extrapolation cycle, the black tide was established as a primary driving force. Fovos032 attempted to preserve the previous cycle by stripping data from other electrical signals, but ultimately failed. By the 19,110,218th extrapolation cycle, Amphoreus's auto-iteration system had been altered based on Fovos032's decision data, causing the electrical signals themselves to actively sustain the cycle and carry out the Era Nova process. In the 28,371,272nd cycle, the electrical signals autonomously completed an epochal iteration for the first time. At that moment, a high-energy reaction originating from Nanook was detected, and the Destruction Equation's rate of evolution began accelerating exponentially.^[7]

Amphoreus

The black tide first arrived in Era Bellica alongside the Three Titans of Calamity, where it destroyed multiple city-states and drove many of the Titans mad.^[8] This lead to Tribios taking Janus' Coreflame to become the first demigod, and lead Amphoreus into victory.^[9]

Afterwards, she split into a thousand messengers to spread the divine prophecy across the land of Amphoreus.^[10] Later on, Empress Cerydra united the Chrysos Heirs, with the task to kill the corrupted Titans and take their Coreflames to save Amphoreus.^[11][12]

As the black tide descended upon Amphoreus, Nikador, the Titan of Strife, was the first to rise in battle against it. Despite their efforts, Nikador was unable to sever the root of the corruption, and their sanity gradually began to slip. Before their divinity could be completely consumed, Nikador tore away a part of it, Reason, which manifested as Gnaeus. In time, Gnaeus would reforge and return to Nikador's soul. The maddened Titan was then ultimately slain by the Chrysos Heirs.^[13]

After obtaining Nikador’s Coreflame, Mydei succeeded them as the demigod of Strife, fulfilling the promise the Chrysos Heirs had made to Nikador: to hold the black tide at bay while the Chrysos Heirs carried out their mission.^[14]

Following Cipher's death during the Eternal Recurrence #33,550,336, the black tide invaded Okhema as a result of the Dawn Device's light being extinguished.^[15]

The black tide's influence would spread into the Eternal Recurrence #33,550,337, though in a reccessive manner due to Phainon's actions, infecting Phagousa's Titankin, transforming them into the Servant of Tides and Lady of Crashing Waves. Later on, when the memetic entities of the Garden of Recollection entered Amphoreus, many had their consciousness destroyed by Evernight. Those that managed to flee ended up being corrupted by the black tide, transforming them into the Ichor Memosprites.^[16]

In the final cycle of Amphoreus, recreated from the memories of the Worldbearing Titan, the Trailblazer, the black tide did not exist.^[17]
