History
Early History
- Zandar One Kuwabara proposes the Imaginary Tree theory, and creates the Aeon of Erudition, Nous.[1] Thereafter, he becomes THEIR Emanator and the first member of the Genius Society.[2]
- Genius Society member #2, Harald Punch, proves the existence of Phlogiston.[3]
- Genius Society member #4, Polka Kakamond, joins the society. She soon becomes notorious for killing other members of the society.[4]
- Three geniuses, being Bohdan #7, Lambda #8, and Klein #9, were born on the same planet, and drew the gaze of Nous within a century.[5]
- Klein makes the Man-Made Meteorite for Bohdan.[5]
- Lambda is killed by a violate explosion due to a lab accident, which is suspected to be caused by Polka.[6]
- Bohdan reproves the existence of Phlogiston and is killed by Polka sometime afterwards.[3]
- Klein is found dead in his house's basement.[7]
- Genius Society member #22, Aiden, creates the nine-worded formulae that reshaped algebra, geometry, and science.[8]
- The first meeting of the Genius Society has two attendees.[10]
First Mechanical War
- Genius Society member #27, Rubert I, creates the Anti-Organic Equation and starts the Mechanical Emperor's Wars, pitting inorganic lifeforms against organic lifeforms.[11] The war causes widespread devastation; by its conclusion, the organics prove victorious, with Rubert I being killed by Polka at the end of the war.[12]
- The second meeting of the Genius Society has seven attendees.[10]
Interlude
- Genius Society member #29, Sserkal, creates the Phase Flame, alongside the Metafield.[13][14]
- Sserkal dies after 29 human days.[14]
- Genius Society member #56, Elias Salas, creates a wide array of inventions, most notably the Synesthesia Beacon, though other creations include the Genius's Ultraremote Sensing Visor, Society Tickets, ultra long-range communication devices and numerous ways to prolong life.[15][16][17][18]
Second Emperor's War
Scholars' Strife
- Polka returns and kills people infected by the Anti-Organic Virus.[20]
- Polka speaks with Patavia Adler Sommerville a number of times, filling her with a sense of inferiority.[21]
Recent History
- Lycurgus obtains Scepter δ-me13 to perform The Amphoreus Experiment.[23]
- Genius Society member #64, Dr. Primitive, gets into a tussle with the Galaxy Rangers on Vonwacq.[24]
- Genius Society member #76, Screwllum, is invited to the society at some point after the Second Mechanical Emperor's War. His invitation causes the IPC to reconsider their decision to destroy all non-organic life and gifts him a Mechanical Cuckoo Clock as a symbol of peace.[25]
- Genius Society member #77, Puzzle, creates educational toys for physics which are met with abysmal sales. Later, she makes an alternative to hyper-distant delivery, but it fails and causes violent explosions. This is purchased by the IPC so that it can be used as a weapon.[26][27]
- Puzzle strips away her genius, and dies as a "mundane."[28]
- The third meeting of the Genius Society has five attendees.[10]
- Genius Society member #81, Ruan Mei, is invited by Nous after destroying all existing laws of evolution trying to revive her parents. After this, she becomes set on studying life.[29][30]
- Genius Society member #55, Yu Qingtu, creates the Thalan Toxi-Flame, one of the 774 most toxic cocktails popular with those from the Aterlexian System. She also creates The Pinkest Collision after befriending Ruan Mei.[31][32]
- ~2149 AE[33] — Genius Society member #83, The Herta, solves the Solitary Waves Theory, and is invited by Nous afterwards.[34]
- The Herta manages to reverse her own age via de-aging and has created puppets of herself. She has saved the planet she was on from destruction 19 times. She has also captured and sealed a stellaron.[35]
- 2156 AE — The IPC, seeking to protect their trade routes from the Antimatter Legion, approach Genius Society member #79 Chadwick. Along with other researchers, Chadwick develops the Imaginary Implosion Pulse, which Dudley and his higher-ups use to destroy the Antimatter Legion along with countless other plants and civilizations. Chadwick, feeling immense guilt for his participation in the weapon, acquires Screwllum's aid in acquiring medicine to block his knowledge of imaginary physics, successfully erasing his memory and failing to relearn his knowledge. After his death, the IPC collaborates with the Garden of Recollection to preserve his mind and moves it to Penacony for safeguarding.[36]
- Genius Society member #84, Stephen Lloyd, creates the Genius's Frequency Catcher.[37]
- Ruan Mei manages to revive Genius Society member #8, Lambda for a short duration.[38]
- Herta learns of a prospective astrologist known as Asta, belonging to a wealthy family, and decides to recruit her.[39]
- Prior to her departure from the Herta Space Station, Ruan Mei asks for the lower levels of the station to be used for her own experiments, which Herta accepts. Ruan Mei conducts numerous experiments, mostly related to The Swarm, culminating with a synthetic replica of the Emanator of Propagation, Skaracabaz. This section of the station, known as the Seclusion Zone, is eventually sealed up.[9]
Current Activity
At the end of 2157 AE, the Herta Space Station is attacked by the Antimatter Legion, though they repel the attackers at the cost of several faculty on board. The Stellaron Hunters steal the stellaron in the station and seal it inside the Trailblazer instead. Sometime after the attack is repulsed, Herta invites the Trailblazer to test the Simulated Universe, a collaboration project between her, Screwllum, Ruan Mei and Stephen Lloyd.[2][40]
Ruan Mei visits Herta Space Station and takes an interest in the Trailblazer upon meeting them. The Trailblazer is tasked to secure the experiments that had escaped containment, leading them to the Seclusion Zone. There, they discover more of Ruan Mei's creations that have formed a society of their own. They also meet Dr. Ratio, who reveals Ruan Mei's secret in the giant chamber below them — a synthetic version of Skaracabaz which the Trailblazer fights, though it unable to sustain itself and disappears after 56 seconds.[9]
During their visit on Penacony, the Trailblazer comes across Chadwick and discovers that he was a member of the Genius Society. They inform Herta, who contacts Screwllum and she has the two head to Penacony to pay a visit to him. They are able to restore Chadwick's mind and promise to protect his secrets from the IPC, upon which he is taken away from Penacony and to Herta Space Station. As they grant him peace, Chadwick's consciousness calls for Herta, imparting his memories to her, who promises to uphold his promise and legacy.[36]
At some point after the Stellaron crisis on Penacony was resolved, Screwllum, collaborating with Dr. Ratio, created the Divergent Universe. Ruan Mei also sent a request to the Astral Express to help her secure some Leviathan fossils from Calenga Abyss.[41] After the delivery was made, Ruan Mei discovered a Whistling Flames ship and a passenger inside and treated her at the request of a travelling merchant.[42] In order to contain the corrosion that Phantylia had inflicted onto Tingyun, Ruan Mei had to make modifications to the foxian's tail. She later had the Astral Express pick her up so they could return her to the Luofu.
Following Hoolay's death, Ruan Mei boarded The Xianzhou Luofu.[43]
After the incident with Professor Primon back at Penacony, Herta would research into the Scholars' Strife. There, she encountered an Unknowable Domain and investigates it. Herta was immersed in the expansion that she failed to return for a significant amount of time, prompting Screwllum to contact the Trailblazer and head into the domain to snap her back to her senses. Herta initially intended to turn Rubert II's data into the fifth genius in the collaboration, but to their surprise, the data entity emulating Polka ended up gaining sentience. Polka declined the offer to be the fifth genius and nearly killed them for putting them on the path of Finality; however, given their spectacular performance, Polka spared them with their lives as a "tip" before leaving. Stephen was troubled by Polka's appearance and ended up creating a facial recognition filter mesh, while Herta hoped that Ruan Mei could convince Yu Qingtu to join the project.[44]
Himeko would later inform Herta about their next destination, Amphoreus, which would pique her interest.[45] However, to her disdain, she found that there was not enough information to actively look for it.[46] She later had the Herta Space Station vacated and practiced meeting with Nous.[47]
Herta made preparations to meet with Nous, but suring this time, she discovered someone had altered the programming of her puppets and soon discovered the culprit, a Memosnatcher from the Garden of Recollection. She sealed the Memosnatcher in a mirror and tried to get an audience with THEM, but Welt and Sunday accidentally chanced on her during the attempt. She decides to cancel the attempt, as a connection with THEM would kill the intruders and decides to see who was intruding on her lab. Welt explains to her that they needed help regarding Amphoreus, as they could not establish communications with two of them and another had fallen inexplicably ill.[46]
Herta later investigates the Memosnatcher's memories and learns more about Amphoreus. Using the Astral Express car as a signal, Herta is successfully able to reach the planet's entrance. However, she is stopped by Lygus, who tells her to turn away. He tells her that if she ignored him and forced her way in, she would release a Lord Ravager.[48] Herta ultimately ignores Lygus' warnings and with the assistance of Screwllum, the two successfully projected onto Amphoreus. There, they prioritize the safety of the Nameless before Lygus realized what was going on and threw them out. They also realize that the Lord Ravager that was born but trapped on the planet was due to an Emperor's Scepter that managed to elude Nous' grasp.[49]
After the 33,550,336th Endless Recurrence of the Amphoreus Experiment, it has finally entered the final phase, and Lycurgus is now making preparations for Irontomb's completion.[50][51]
With preparations completed, Herta and Screwllum project onto Amphoreus and head into the "Nightmare's Echo" Great Tomb of the Nameless Titan, discovering the mess that Zandar had made. Herta informs him that if the Trailblaze fails to defeat Irontomb, she would self coronate in Irontomb's place instead. They breach the quatorzain algebraic expressions set in place and discover Lygus's head at the center of the ruins. Herta calls for the fourth meeting of Genius Society, of which seven people; Herta, Screwllum, Zandar One Kuwabara, Ruan Mei, Dr. Primtive, Acha and Polka Kakamond respond to the summons. Herta calls for them to not interfere with her research topic: "Stopping Irontomb." Lygus passes on Herta's decision to stop Irontomb to every other Zandar in the universe, promising to stop all external interference with Herta's research topic.[10]
As Irontomb materializes in the cosmos, Herta leads the combined forces to attack it. Irontomb unleashes a massive wave of anti-organic equations, which Herta uses to bind her body to the Scepter and connect to Nous to rewrite the anchor of the Fourth Instant. Due to binding her body to the scepter and gazing directly at Nous, she was put into the IPC's care. As Lygus watches his experiment fail, he meets with Screwllum once again. He tells Screwllum to take his body to Adlivun, where he would find assistance to destroy Erudition if the time ever come, though Screwllum refused to honor his last wishes.[52]
Herta later spoke to Cyrene, telling her that when she disconnected from Nous, she saw that the Fourth Instant was actually a chain of events. She then told her that Nous saw two paths for her; one in which she would break free from the world and reach for the stars, or "fade" and offer herself as a memory that carries through Amphoreus which would close causality. Cyrene ultimately chose the second option, which Herta believed was the right choice.[53]
