Overview

Naught[Note 1] is a sword used by Acheron, tied to her powers as an Emanator of Nihility.[1][2]

Overview

Naught is the blade wielded by Acheron. As the sole survivor of Izumo, she carries a sword forged from the remnants of Origin, one of the final two blades created, the other being End. When unsheathed, the blade's steel turns crimson red, unleashing the power of Nihility around it.[1][3]

History

Izumo

Izumo was a world that orbited a Shadow of IX alongside Takamagahara. At some point, Izumo was invaded by the Kami of Takamagahara. After managing to slay a Kami and forge the first Edict Edge, blades capable of killing the Kami, the people of Izumo gained the means to fight back.[1] In time, eleven more Edict Edges were created, and the Kami were ultimately repelled, ushering in an era of peace.[4] Following the war, the Edict Edges were broken apart and sealed away. Disaster eventually befell Izumo, as humanity's use of the Kami's power transformed people into Oni, while the dead themselves grew restless, pushing the world to the brink of destruction. In a final attempt to save Izumo, the twelve Edict Edges were reforged into two ultimate blades: "Origin" and "End." Acheron, as the wielder of Origin, was eventually tainted by Nihility and her broken blade was reformed as "Naught." During this, Acheron destroyed the Shadow of IX, and the planets Takamagahara and Izumo along with it.[1][5]

Penacony

Aventurine, using his Cornerstone, forces Acheron to unsheathe her sword, causing him to die and become tainted by Nihility, eventually entering the Horizon of Existence.[2]

Later, Acheron unsheathes her blade once more to destroy Ena's Dream. However, the dream itself becomes contaminated by the effects of Nihility. To prevent it from harming others, The Dahlia takes the entirety of the corruption upon herself and burns it away, though the act leaves her severely affected.[3]

Notes

  1. While never explicitly stated outright, "Naught" is implied to be the name of Acheron’s current sword. This implication comes from the Myriad Celestia Trailer: Kyoden: A Cleave Across the Transient World as well as her "Something to Share: Weapon" voice-over.
