Profile
Asaba Harumasa is the carefree expert archer of Hollow Special Operations Section 6. A child prodigy with both bow and blade, Harumasa aids his teammates from afar, while also being able to switch to close combat if necessary. He has little interest in work, and tries his best to slack off, usually doing things to the acceptable minimum and napping for the rest of the job as he waits to clock out.
Harumasa's life has been deeply impacted by Ether Aptitude Regression Syndrome, a health condition he was born with. The boon of an exceptional Ether aptitude is outweighed by the toll it takes on his body, which he uses as a reason to apply for sick leave. Due to the medicine he takes, Harumasa gained a liking for bitter flavors.
History
Harumasa’s life has been one of pain (both physical and mental) from early childhood, when he was diagnosed with Ether Aptitude Regression Syndrome, a life-threatening condition with no cure. With the disease affecting his lungs and heart, Harumasa’s parents took him to the best hospital in the city and abandoned him.
With the hospital now his new home, Harumasa was taken in by a doctor whom he called "master." Alongside treating him, his master taught Harumasa archery, swordsmanship, and how to survive with his condition. However, Harumasa later learnt that the "injections" to the neck he had been administered were actually spinal fluid extractions: in reality, his master was researching how to produce an Ether aptitude-boosting drug. When the "power player" investors discovered that the doctor got attached to Harumasa and had switched to developing a cure for his condition instead, they made him disappear.[1] Harumasa was thus left with a yellow headband his master used to wear and the skills he taught him.[2]
Harumasa later enrolled at the Public Security Training Academy, where he was a senior to future officer Seth Lowell.[3] Upon graduation, Harumasa joined H.A.N.D. and swiftly climbed up the ranks, becoming an executive officer.
He was present during the Argos Hollow incident, where he was able to see through the TOPS consultant's plan as a way to protect High Ambition's assets and watched Hoshimi Miyabi become a Void Hunter by slaying Lerna. Having witnessed their honesty and sense of justice by not complying with the TOPS consultant's orders, Miyabi had Asaba Harumasa, along with Defense Force member Tsukishiro Yanagi, transferred to the newly formed Hollow Special Operations Section 6,[4] where they could pursue justice without TOPS' interference.

A weapon custom-made for Asaba Harumasa.
Crafted from a special alloy, the bow is both durable and flexible. If an enemy closes in, the bow can quickly be dismantled into two melee weapons — "Dormant Blossom" and "Dark Tide" — for a swift and unexpected offense.
Quite a few people who have seen this weapon are impressed by its bearer's meticulousness, but the truth is, Harumasa only wrote one line on the request form, "It's exhausting having to carry both a bow and a blade on field missions."

Possessing exceptional Ether aptitude since he was young and being dubbed a prodigy, he entered HSO after graduating with outstanding merit.
Was originally a member of a certain ace division within HSO, but later left due to various reasons, joining Miyabi's team instead.
He possesses a carefree and laidback attitude, and his only wish is to achieve acceptable results with minimum effort.
After efficiently taking care of his work to the lowest acceptable standard, he will hurry to use all the remainder of his available time to rest (slack off).
He claims he uses a bow to better slack off, as it effectively lowers the amount of running he has to do.
Asaba Harumasa has poor health, and over-exercise sometimes triggers his illness.
He often uses this reason to apply for sick leave, though no one knows what he does with this time off. Either way, it's probably not resting.

Asaba Harumasa has a very rare illness, Ether Aptitude Regression Syndrome.
This illness causes certain parts of the patient's body to mutate, wrecking their constitution, but also giving them unusually exceptional Ether aptitude.
In the late stages of the illness, the patient's body will rapidly deteriorate, losing their Ether aptitude and sensory functions while under immense pain, eventually resulting in death. If the patient's illness worsens in late stages while in a Hollow, they'll quickly be corrupted into an Ethereal.
Those who suffer from Ether Aptitude Regression Syndrome do not live long. Currently, the longest-lived person with this illness died at the age of 26.
There is no known method to completely cure this disease.

- The choker Harumasa wears is to hide the scars from the syringe needles for spinal fluid extractions he had.[2]
- Harumasa's condition of heart and lung could be referencing Okita Sōji (Japanese: 沖田総司), a Japanese Samurai in Shinsengumi, and his original name was Fujiwara no Harumasa (Japanese: 藤原春政). He died around the age of 26 because of a lung disease. This could also be related to why the name of Harumasa is adopted instead of Yūma, a more common form for Kanji 悠真 used in names.
