Etymology
- Al Azif (Arabic: العزيف) is the original Arabic name for the Necronomicon, a fictional tome of forbidden knowledge first mentioned in the H. P. Lovecraft short story The Hound. Lovecraft defines the word as "that nocturnal sound (made by insects) supposed to be the howling of demons" in his brief pseudo-history of the Necronomicon published after his death, as "History of the Necronomicon."
