Solar Chariot

The Solar Chariot is an object considered equivalent to the sun, which once fell into The Chasm during the Funerary Year.[1]
Story
Very little information is known about the solar chariot. During the War of Funerary Flame between Nibelung and the Heavenly Principles, much of Teyvat was left in ruins.[2] After the Three Moons were killed in the conflict, the solar chariot is said to have fallen into a deep gorge, which can be assumed to be The Chasm in Liyue.[1]
This area was once a nation known as Lang-Gan, and was turned into the Chasm during the war by the Spiritstone, a Celestial Nail.[3] Sometime after the war, the area was resettled, and the solar chariot was repaired by its people. Thereafter, it returned to the sky, presumably taking the form of Teyvat's sun to this day.[1]
Trivia
- Enkanomiya's artificial sun, Dainichi Mikoshi, was named for the chariot of the sun.[4]
- The device's creator, Abrax, was instructed on how to build it by Istaroth, a Shade of the Heavenly Principles. This implies that it is in some way based on the sun in Teyvat's own false sky.
- It is possible that the solar and lunar[5][6] chariots are differing perspectives on the same object.
- Though the Dainichi Mikoshi was based on the solar chariot, its light is decribed as moving Sun and Moon both, which could imply the same is true for Teyvat's own celestial chariots.[4]
- When Zibai was killed by the Spiritstone during the War of Funerary Flame, the chariot of the lunar palace she rode was destroyed and fell into the Chasm. This matches the date and place described for the solar chariot's fall.
- Zibai's Moonsign Benediction Passive is named for both The Coursing Sun and Moon.
- The lunar chariot was said to have shone with a light that matched the sun.[7]
- Nilotpala Lotuses, which grew from the dust of the Eternal Moon,[8] are said by Melusines to be the thing "closest in color to the sun."[9]
- Records of Jueyun Volume 6 states that the Chasm was created by a falling star at a time when Rex Lapis was still young, the same phrasing used for the time in which the solar chariot fell. Similarly, this star was said to have returned to the sky at a later date. However, later information has confirmed that the Chasm was created by a Celestial Nail, which remains in The Chasm: Underground Mines to this day.
- It is possible that the star in Records of Jueyun is in fact two separate objects: The falling star is the Spiritstone, but the star which returned to the sky during the Archon War could be the solar chariot. This can be explained by in-game historians being fallible relative to the records provided by Artifacts.
- Zibai's third Deadly Self, Ziqiao, was freed from her prison during the Archon War. The dates of her fall and ascent match those presented in Records of Jueyun, making her a candidate for the star's identity as well.
- Zibai's Elemental Burst, Tri-Sphere Eminence, unleashes the lunar chariot's Jadelight Canopy. The canopy is described as a treasure which was witnessed when "a rogue shooting star bright enough to illuminate the night drew near." This could imply that the star described in Records of Jueyun is the lunar chariot.
- In the Hymns of The Far North Volume 2 for "Takoja Ianikuinen's" prayer it states that he, on the second day "forged a great chariot" before it was stolen by one of his enemies (presumably The Heavenly Principles). Considering the chariot in the Hymns' stated "moonlit glimmer" and the Solar Chariot's association with the Three Moons. It seems likely that this chariot in the Hymns is the same as the Solar Chariot and that it was similarly crafted by Nibelung alongside the Moons.[11]
