Project Lunar Veil
Last updated 2026-09-03
Project Lunar Veil was a project conducted by the dragon researcher Maagees-Geti and her student Lusalim on the Frost Moon. It was developed as a safeguard for Project Moongazer and was intended to create a veil that could obscure the moon.[1]
Overview
Project Lunar Veil was created in response to concerns surrounding Project Moongazer, which sought to transmit the message carried by the Stellar Blackbody back into space. Lusalim believed there was no evidence that whatever received such signals would bear them goodwill, and feared that the transmission could invite disaster.[2]
To reduce this risk, Lusalim sought to create a veil that could hide the moon, using Maagees-Geti's research into Blackbody Matter as its basis: Blackbody Matter found on the outer hull of the Moongazer possessed a unique reflective property, which likely explained why the spaceship was cloaked when it hit the Space Lifeform Capture Station. Experiments also showed that Blackbody Matter could mutually stimulate with Archaeolune Energy and fuse with plants and animals.[2]
Origin
To create the first stage of the project, the "Curtain-Form Blackbody Containment," Professor Maagees-Geti's team selected Moonshade Trees compatible with Blackbody Matter. After being stimulated by Archaeolune Energy, these specimens released diffusive waves with reflective properties. By increasing the intensity of the stimulation, the researchers were able to form a stable curtain-form containment that extended beyond the entire laboratory.[3]
Researcher Nu-ur-Gestug suggested conducting larger-scale trials, to which Professor Maagees-Geti agreed and the researchers proceeded with Phase I of Project Lunar Veil.[4] However, Nu-ur-Gestug later criticized the project as an uninspired, short-term solution that would only buy time before the inevitable arrival of the Dark Destroyer.[5]
Phase I
During Phase I, the researchers created a miniature Lunar Veil to shroud Ungien's Circle.[1] The project name was suggested by Lusalim, though he records that it actually came from his "daughter" Nin-Kiggia, who could barely speak at the time.[4]
Phase II
During Phase II, Maagees-Geti's health continued to decline, and the research team from the Eye of Ibni-Belum carried out a signal transmission in accordance with her final wish. Lusalim, still uneasy about the danger of the transmission, sought to complete the full-scale Veil immediately, despite the far greater energy requirements, and turned to the Moon Goddesses for aid.[6]
Failure and Legacy
When the moon's Security Chief Kalag took control of Ungien's Circle,[7] Lusalim had to continue the research at his Lunar Veil Laboratory in the Moontide Sea.[8][9] There, he built a massive Veil generator capable of concealing the entire moon.[1]
Before the full-scale Veil could take shape, the Heavenly Principles arrived and Lusalim's Lunar Veil Laboratory as well as the Veil generator were destroyed in an explosion, creating the Moontide Sea.[1] Lusalim subsequently relocated to his laboratory on the Dark Side of the Moon[1] and eventually surrendered his research to the Heavenly Principles.[10] He likely did so in order to protect the moon's facilities from further destruction.[1]
Columbina notes that a veil capable of obscuring the moon sounds very similar to the false sky, though whether Project Lunar Veil directly became the basis for the false sky is currently unclear.[1]
