First Era

War of Funerary Flame

  • As per her agreement with Nibelung, Seutervoinen casts her consciousness into Teyvat once more, only to find the dragons' power supplanted by the Heavenly Principles. Unwilling to disturb the new rulers, she takes possession of the body of a boy in Hyperborea in order to observe humanity up close.[1]
    • At some point, the people of Hyperborea anger the angels by "questioning the progress of knowledge." As the priests argue about how to quell their wrath, Seutervoinen joins the conversation and goes even further, questioning the very laws of Teyvat itself. Exasperated, the chief priest sends him to Irminsul to plead his case before the first angel, Koitar.[2]
    • Seutervoinen tells Koitar of his identity as an interstellar voyager, shocking her with the revelation of a life beyond the Heavenly Principles' rule. In return, she reveals the secrets of Teyvat's creation, and the two become lovers, resolving to oppose the gods together. This "betrayal" is quietly observed by the Moon Goddesses, who begin to nurse "a longing still more audacious."[3]
    • The Snowland Fae are created by artisans of Hyperborea using "forbidden methods" taught to them by the first Seelie, Koitar.[4]
  • The remnants of a fourth moon that "failed to materialize" falls down into the sea, eventually forming the region of Nod-Krai.[5]
    • Due to the nature of its origin, the power of the moons (later known as kuuvahki) permeates Nod-Krai. Over time, the local flora and fauna adapt to its presence, with some changing in appearance and gaining the ability to manipulate it.
  • ~6,000 years ago[Note 1][Note 2] ― Thirty days after Koitar and Seutervoinen meet,[6] the Golden City of Hyperborea is destroyed by a Celestial Nail.[4]
    • Only the then-goddess of the Frost Moon, Canon, takes pity on the scattered survivors. She guides them to Nod-Krai, where they establish a new home on Hiisi Island and name themselves the "Frostmoon Scions" in her honor.[7]
    • The Frostmoon Scions continue to hold on to their faith long after Huurrekuutar's death, believing that she would eventually be reborn among them. To this end, they begin a long-term eugenics project to maintain a pure bloodline that would one day produce this "sacred heir."[8][9]

Archon War

?–2000 years ago

Note: The term "Archon War" is a catch-all term for the various, scattered conflicts across Teyvat to determine who would become one of The Seven, which arose as a result of the creation of the Gnoses. Due to the timeline's ambiguity, this section also includes events after the Celestial Nails were cast down.

  • >3700 years ago[Note 3] — Seven divine seats in Celestia open up, causing the gods to become embroiled in a bitter struggle for supremacy.[10]
    • Many gods fought for the sake of their ideals for a prosperous humanity. "That which lurks within and animates this relic are the divine remains of lamenting gods. They are unrealized ideals, designs for a prosperous humanity that could never be."[11]
    • During the Archon War, the infighting amongst gods was but one cause of conflict in Teyvat; other creatures and entities also sought to expand their domains, taking advantage of the chaos to encroach on the continent.[12]
  • >2,000 years ago ― Monomakh Snezhnyi becomes the first Cryo Archon of Snezhnaya.[13] His royal court is located at Zapolyarny Palace.[14]
    • Under the Belyi Tsar, Snezhnaya exists as an imperial aristocracy. The Snowland Fae serve as the ruling class, leading lives of luxury and excess.[14]

Post-Archon War

  • 2000 years ago — The Archon War comes to an end as the final divine seat in Celestia is claimed, cementing the positions of The Seven's original members.[15][16] Defeated gods who refused to live under The Seven's rule fled to islands in the Dark Sea, where they became evil gods.[17]
  • 600-700 years ago — Kyryll Chudomirovich Flins is born into fae nobility.[18]

Pre-Cataclysm

  • >500 years ago ― Solovei's family is elevated to the gentry by the Belyi Tsar.[19]
  • >500 years ago ― The Belyi Tsar orders the exploration and development of the borderland called Nod-Krai.[20] Trees are leveled to make way for cities, ports, and factories[21] in what becomes known as the "pioneering age."[19]
  • A few years after the development of Nod-Krai begins, the Khaenri'ahn exile Rauthvangi arrives in the region, having nearly given up on his search for the "pitch-black Elysium" he once saw. However, he glimpses it again in the borderlands, and resolves to "open the gate" no matter the cost.[20]
    • Rauthvangi, under the alias "Rotwang," ingratiates himself to the Tsar through his mastery of alchemy and astrology. Many of the fae nobles distrust him, calling him the "mad monk" in private.[14]
    • The Tsar begins to plot "a revolt that the sublunary order could never tolerate" with the intent of becoming "the ruler of all living things beneath the moon." Seeing a chance to further his own goals, Rauthvangi urges the Tsar to think bigger, claiming that "the true eternal Elysium he seeks" lies beyond the false sky.[21][22]
    • At some point, Rauthvangi, acting as the Tsar's envoy, travels to Nod-Krai on a secret mission to secure a hidden treasure capable of "turning the world upside down."[21]
  • >500 years ago — Lovia becomes the last Archpriestess of the Frostmoon Scions.
    • During her tenure, a maiden with exceptionally pure blood is born among the Frostmoon Scions. She is prophesied to bear the Sacred Heir, but elopes with a Snezhnayan officer and eventually gives birth to a son, Avrelian (later known as Reed Miller).
      • Reed Miller becomes childhood friends with Solovei, and together, they share a dream of creating a "paradise."[22]
    • To retrieve the runaway maiden, Lovia contacts Rauthvangi, with whom she had been corresponding. However, the maiden's husband is killed in the process, causing her to take her own life as well.[23]
  • Following the maiden's death, Lovia turns to a lesser bloodline for replacements. She raises a pair of twins, Alia and Aila, in seclusion, forcing them to kill and drink the blood of their fellow Frostmoon Scions to "purify" their own blood.[24][25]
    • In her youth, Alia departs Hiisi Island, having allegedly been kidnapped by Reed Miller.[26] She later meets Solovei and pretends to be his "close companion" in order to thwart Rauthvangi's plans, sacrificing herself to save "countless lives."[27]
    • Around the same time, Solovei visits the Frostmoon Scions. Lovia orders Aila to assassinate him, but after Solovei convinces her of Lovia's deception, Aila chooses to kill Lovia instead. She takes over as the leader of the Scions, now known as the Moonchanter, and becomes Solovei's "benefactor."[25][27]
    • In an effort avoid repeating history, Aila radically reforms the Frostmoon Scions' traditional rites, eliminating all references to Hyperborea, the Sacred Heir Project, and Lovia. Instead, she promotes reverence for nature, kindness towards outsiders, and worship of the coming New Moon.[26][28]

Cataclysm

500 years ago

  • Monsters from the Abyss invade the aboveground world of Teyvat, causing widespread devastation.[29]
  • The Kingdom of Khaenri'ah is destroyed by the Heavenly Principles,[32] causing the fall of the Eclipse Dynasty and the entire civilization.[33] Khaenri'ah's destruction causes a devastating ripple effect.[34]
  • During the cataclysm, Nod-Krai is the first area corrupted by the Abyss,[35] which manifests there as The Wild Hunt.
    • Neither the Snezhnayan royal court nor the gods defend the borderland region, and Abyssal monsters raze it to the ground.[22][19]
  • Solovei, the Torchforger, and Aila, the first Moonchanter of the Frostmoon Scions, use the power of the moons to turn the tide against the Abyss. According to the Scions' records, Aila travels to the Pillar of Embla at Solovei's behest, "[lighting] a beacon to dispel the darkness."[36] By another account, Solovei borrows power from Aila and "[raises] that first beam of light."[22]
    • Solovei and his allies establish the Lightkeepers, swearing an oath to defend Nod-Krai from the Abyss.[22] Sometime later, they pledge their eternal fidelity to the Tsaritsa.[37]
    • Aila bestows upon Solovei the Arrow of Terpikeraunas, a Frostmoon relic capable of dispelling the Abyss.[27]
  • At some point, Anastasya Feodorovna Snezhnaya succeeds the Belyi Tsar as the new Cryo Archon in an apparently non-violent transition of power.[22][38]
    • Most of the fae nobility disapprove of the change, including Flins, who leaves Snezhnaya in self-exile. After wandering for some time, he voluntarily enters a deep slumber on a small isle in Nod-Krai.[39]
    • Over time, the fae lose much of their political influence and fall into obscurity.[13]
  • Reed Miller becomes an infamous thief known across Teyvat. He seeks to build an "Elysium" for the poor and downtrodden on the wealth of the rich, and founds the Treasure Hoarders on this principle.[40]
    • The Snezhnayan royal court eventually sentences Reed Miller to death for his crimes, although it is unclear whether his execution actually succeeds.[Note 4]

Post-Cataclysm

500–100 years ago

  • <500 years ago — On Hiisi Island, Aila witnesses the birth of the new Goddess of the Frost Moon,[41] whom the Frostmoon Scions worship as Kuutar. The goddess's familiars, the kuuhenki, are born alongside her.[42]
    • The Scions place statues of Kuutar's likeness all over Nod-Krai. Aila personally carves a particularly large version on Hiisi Island, known as the Idol of the New Moon.[42]
    • Faced with the Frostmoon Scions' devotion and expectations, Kuutar agrees to act as their goddess. However, she comes to find that they feel entitled to her power and care little about her as a person, instead pressuring her into granting their prayers by giving her unwanted offerings.[43]
  • Shortly after the cataclysm, Solovei defends Reed Miller's dream of creating a "paradise" before the Tsaritsa's court, and she grants him permission to rebuild Nod-Krai as an autonomous area of Snezhnaya.[22]
  • 500 years ago ― For reasons yet unclear, the Tsaritsa cuts all ties with Barbatos.[44]
  • 500 years ago — Pierro, a former court mage of Khaenri'ah, meets with the Tsaritsa and expresses support for her goals. They establish the Fatui, a formidable military force led by the Fatui Harbingers, with Pierro as its Director.[45]
  • 400―350 years ago ― the Moon Goddess of the Frostmoon Scions, Kuutar, begins to feel that she can no longer satisfy her followers' demands. She joins the Fatui at the Tsaritsa's invitation, becoming the 3rd rank Harbinger and taking on the codenames "Columbina" and "The Damselette."[43][46][Note 5]
    • Sometime later, she fulfills a yet-unknown promise to the Tsaritsa, which uses up most of her power.

Recent Past

<100 years ago

Note: The bullets below are arranged in order of relative reverse chronological order, estimated based on characters' apparent ages.

  • At most two decades ago, the Seahook Gang, a major "hidden power" in Nasha Town, disbands.[47]
  • >10 years ago, Crucabena, a Fatui Harbinger and the director of the House of the Hearth, falls in a duel against of one of her charges, Peruere. Peruere's sentence is commuted by the Tsaritsa, and she goes on to become Arlecchino, the 4th Fatui Harbinger.[48]
  • 8–4 years ago ― The following events presumably occur sometime between 8–4 years ago. The events are listed in a tentative chronological order, but there is no confirmation on when exactly they occurred relative to the present.
    • After running away from home in a fit of boredom, a 14-year-old Ajax (later known as Tartaglia or Childe) falls into the Abyss, where he meets a swordswoman called Skirk.[49] She teaches him how to navigate through the Abyss, trains him to fight, and hones his ability to cause chaos around him. After spending three months there, he returns to Teyvat, where only three days had passed since his disappearance.[50]
    • The newfound havoc Ajax leaves in his wake leads his father to hand him over to the Fatui, where his uncanny prowess in battle catches the attention of Pulcinella, the 5th Harbinger. Ajax is officially inducted into the Fatui and works his way up,[51] becoming the youngest-ever Harbinger to join their ranks.[52][53]

Present Day

  • After Dottore's apparent death and his intentions being revealed to the Tsaritsa, the Palestar Edict is nullified.

  1. ↑ All Celestial Nails are implied to have been cast down simultaneously after the Heavenly Principles won the great war of vengeance. Therefore, this takes place at the same time as the creation of The Chasm, which happened 6000 years ago.

From this, it can be assumed that the Abyss attacked Teyvat before The Seven were involved in Khaenri'ah. However, this does not exclude the possibility that the gods in Celestia attacked Khaenri'ah first.
