The Gods' Limits
Last updated 2026-08-01
Teyvat Chapter Interlude Teaser: The Gods' Limits was a video released by official Genshin Impact media on July 9, 2025. It teased the upcoming Archon Quest storyline and marked the first in-person appearances of all the Four Great Rulers of the Heavenly Principles along with a preview of Nod-Krai.
Description
In the council of gods, no mortal voice is ever heard.
And thus was the fate of the world arbitrarily determined.
We know that such is the way of the world.
But do the gods act out of contempt...
Or have they at some hour begun to act out of fear?

Transcript
- (In a lush field with a big tree, an elderly woman sits under the tree's shade and starts reading a book to the students gathered around her.)
- Elderly Woman: This world has always been so
- (Naberius is shown)
- Elderly Woman: Life abides no reason —
- Elderly Woman: For none are born by their own consent
- (Ronova is shown)
- Elderly Woman: Death abides no reason —
- Elderly Woman: For it cannot be defied
- Elderly Woman: Even by those who see it coming
- (Istaroth is shown)
- Elderly Woman: Time abides no reason —
- Elderly Woman: For it deprives us all equally
- Elderly Woman: Yet brooks not a second to be reclaimed
- (Asmoday is shown)
- Elderly Woman: Space abides no reason. The...
- (A gust of wind disrupts her narration. She convulses as if she were being struck by an invisible force, much to the students' alarm. The woman's eyes turn black as she continues narrating. Two stars representing the Traveler and the Traveler's Sibling duck and weave between chains, transforming into two hands that reach for each other before being torn apart.)
- Elderly Woman: The Ruler of Space stopped the golden-haired twin travelers
- Elderly Woman: And mercilessly t—t—t—tore them apart...
- (A beam of red light falls from the sky, destroying the tree and turning the sky red. The woman's body twists and shreds into nothingness as her book falls to the ground. The screen cuts to black.)
- (A crow flying in the red sky is killed and absorbed into Ronova as she descends upon the destroyed tree.)
- Ronova: Nabe— Mm, no
- Ronova: This looks more like Rhinedottir's doing
- (The woman and students have been reduced to small white, flaming orbs. The Rhinedottir picks up one up from the ground.)
- Ronova: Please don't litter other people's spaces with your bizarre creations
- Rhinedottir: Unsurprisingly, all life here has been rendered unstable
- Rhinedottir: Tainted by the Ruler of Space
- Rhinedottir: I have seen enough to know that repeating this experiment would be fruitless
- (Right after Rhinedottir destroys the white orb, Naberius confronts her inside their mind, depicted as a blue space filled with screens.)
- Naberius: You seem to wield my power as if it were nothing but a plaything for your amusement
- Naberius: Although merging with you has stripped me of agency
- Naberius: I shall still continue to voice my disapproval
- Naberius: My dear Rhinedottir
- Rhinedottir: ...You have my respect, Naberius
- Rhinedottir: Your nagging is one of the only things that can get under my skin
- (As Rhinedottir's consciousness returns to reality, Ronova turns to Istaroth, perched on the dead tree.)
- Ronova: And you, Istaroth...
- Ronova: Why did you bestow history upon "them"?
- Istaroth: I had to find some way to pass the time, did I not?
- Istaroth: After all
- Istaroth: It's clear that Asmoday is not here
- Ronova: Well, perhaps you could share your input a little earlier next time
- Ronova: But you're right —
- Ronova: There's no trace of Asmoday here
- Ronova: Where has she gone...
- Ronova: ... Anyway
- Ronova: It's time I put this space out of its misery
- (As the space is destroyed, the cube that once encompassed that space disintegrates.)
- (Istaroth descends the steps to a dark chamber illuminated by a golden, swirling light.)
- Istaroth: These meetings are just a formality
- Istaroth: Does it really matter that only three of us are here?
- Ronova: ...I, for one, think that we should find her
- Ronova: Since the Heavenly Principles cast us as Shades
- Ronova: Not one of us has ever missed a meeting
- Istaroth: What if...
- Istaroth: She just switched sides?
- Istaroth: Finding her would do more harm than good
- Rhinedottir: Now there's an interesting idea
- Rhinedottir: Better than being "devoured"
- Ronova: "Just switched sides"?
- Ronova: You make it sound like such a trivial affair
- Ronova: We are Shades
- Ronova: Shadows of the Heavenly Principles
- Ronova: It's unthinkable...
- Ronova: Unless...
- Ronova: ...She loves her new master more than her own self...
- Istaroth: Ronova...
- Istaroth: Do you know that you're being watched?
- (Ronova, alarmed, casts her gaze around the floor.)
- Ronova: By whom?
- Ronova: Whose gaze could pierce this far?
- (Ronova finds the source of the gaze: Pierro, who defiantly gazes up towards the heavens with a scowl.)
- Ronova: I remember those eyes...
- Ronova: It was just before I placed the curse of immortality...
- (During the Cataclysm, Pierro and Ronova lock eyes as Ronova casts the curse of immortality on Khaenri'ahns. Even as her powers stir up debris all around them, Pierro's glare never leaves her.)
- Rhinedottir: Ah yes, he's an old acquaintance of mine
- Rhinedottir: I'm sure that working for the Tsaritsa has helped him let go of his past obsessions
- Ronova: The Cryo Archon?
- Ronova: With her paltry powers
- Ronova: She dares set her gaze on the Heavenly Principles?
- Rhinedottir: The Heavenly Principles have yet to awaken
- Rhinedottir: If I were her
- Rhinedottir: I wouldn't pass on that opportunity either...
- (Naberius appears through a hologram behind Rhinedottir.)
- Naberius: My dear Rhinedottir
- Naberius: You know I cannot allow you to think that way
- Rhinedottir: It was purely hypothetical, Naberius
- Ronova: For lack of a direct order
- Ronova: I say it's time we intervened
- Ronova: ...Of course
- Ronova: To the extent permitted by the "rules"
- (Istaroth reacts with trepidation. Rhinedottir gives an amused smile.)
- (Back in Nod-Krai, Pierro breaks his gaze and departs, followed by his bodyguards. Various locations are shown in the background as he contemplates.)
- Pierro: The gaze of the gods has always been considered a blessing
- Pierro: Hence the origin and meaning of "Visions"
- Pierro: People have always yearned for the gaze of the gods...
- Pierro: And yet...
- Pierro: It is said that when mortals look directly upon the gods
- Pierro: They invite their wrath and retribution
- Pierro: Hmph, and what of it?
- Pierro: Lives will be lost
- Pierro: A nation brought to ruins...
- Pierro: ...So be it. It is nothing I have not endured before
- Pierro: "I already know the price of gazing upon the gods..."
- Pierro: "So tell me —
- Pierro: What is the price of killing a god?"
- Pierro: The god stays silent
- Pierro: As if the thought had never once crossed his mind
- Pierro: To all those who dare not look up to the heavens, Her Majesty the Tsaritsa says this:
- Pierro: "Behold, even the gods have their limits"
- (Scene transitions from the Genshin Impact logo to a Fatui military station)
- Fireblade Shock Trooper: Inspection over
- Fireblade Shock Trooper: Return to your posts!
- (A Thunderblitz Gvardiya hands a document over to a lower-ranking oprichniki soldier)
- Thunderblitz Gvardiya: Make sure the Frostmoon Scions don't pose a threat
- (As the soldier reads his orders, a glitching screen shows Columbina standing alone in a space full of white flowers)
- Soldier: Per the "Palestar Edict"
- Soldier: We are to retrieve The Damselette from Nod-Krai, whatever it takes
