Lore
During his exploration of the Frost Moon and circumlunar space, the Dragon Pioneer Ibni-Belum received a mysterious signal from deep space. Dragon researchers could not decipher the signal's meaning, but Ibni-Belum believed it was a message from their ruler, Nibelung, who had left Teyvat for the Sea of Stars.
In hopes of recapturing the signal, the Eye of Ibni-Belum was constructed as a deep-space signal transceiver station. Many years passed, and the dragon pioneer passed away, but the signal never appeared again. Eventually, the researchers gave up and converted the Eye into a lunar surface monitoring station to conduct more practical lunar research.[1]
Many, many years after Ibni-Belums passing, the signal finally appeared again, and the Eye of Ibni-Belum was able to capture and record its coordinates. Life scientist Ungien then piloted the spaceship Moongazer to reach the signal's origin. Upon his return, Ungien was discovered to have fused with a creature from deep space. The creature was found to be transmitting a message of hope from a dying civilization.[2][3]
The Eye of Ibni-Belum later played a critical role in Project Moongazer, a mission to transmit similar messages into space to remind other civilizations that they are not alone in the darkness of space. The Eye itself served as the antenna to send these messages into the universe.[3]
