Story
Chapter XII
Gray Serpent mentions Jackal right after transforming into a Honkai Beast, saying it was time for him to check out what Jackal made for him and how it would do on the field.[9]
Chapter XIII
Jackal made her in-game debut, where she spoke with Raven about K-423. Jackal tells Raven that Gray Serpent had told her K-423 actually stayed in Arc City, making her a "pest" for their experiments, and that they didn't have an opportunity to deal with K-423 since their Sire had returned from the Sea of Quanta. She orders Raven to focus on ending the current Schicksal raids in Shenzhou, to which Raven instead plans to let Schicksal agents pursue K-423 while she and Jackal begin Project Stigma, which Jackal agrees to. She also notes that she's prepared a gift for Schicksal in case Raven is forced to fight them.[10]
Jackal appears again once Schicksal begins suspecting World Serpent.[11] She talks to Raven, agreeing to her backup plan and reminding her to use the gift she prepared, asking Raven to also bring back live specimens so she could observe the Valkyries up close. Raven insists that the test must start at once to get the data they need before Schicksal arrives, and Jackal responds by telling Raven to relax, considering she would have a new identity after the test was over with. Raven then questions about the people in the city,[12] and Jackal responds that she should not sympathize with insignificant matters but should instead focus on the well-being of all humanity. She continues by stating that Schicksal, despite its great power, deceives others into believing they are safe under its protection, which renders humanity as helpless sheep cowering in their pens. However, since World Serpent's Sire has returned, he will end Schicksal's tyranny and help the world evolve under his leadership, creating the only world where Raven and those she wishes to protect can survive. The two then let the test begin.[13]
Lastly, Jackal appears while talking to Raven through a communicator after Kiana Kaslana and Rita Rossweisse manage to escape. She asks Raven for the results and if Rita was still alive and tells Raven Rita had pulled a trick on them and that Raven had ten hours to salvage the situation before Schicksal arrived. She questions if Raven needed a reminder of what would happen if she failed but doesn't specify further, with Raven saying the experiment was still on schedule.[14]
Chapter XIV
An hour later, while at Heliopolis's biomedical park, Raven receives a call from Jackal. She asks about their current progress regarding Project Stigma, as Heliopolis's secret has been exposed and they are running out of time. Raven replies that she's deployed their entire forces and that they need to worry about Kiana ruining their plans, and Jackal replies by telling Raven to stop Kiana.[15] Raven refuses to do so due to Kiana's power, which Jackal refutes by stating that Kiana did not display any Herrscher-level powers at the site recordings. She tells Raven her childhood trauma was making her afraid and that the previous battle that Kiana lost at Schicksal HQ proved she wasn't as strong as Raven believed.[16] Raven doubts Jackal's intel, stating that Otto Apocalypse—Schicksal's Overseer—had made secret weapons. She is cut off by Jackal, with Jackal calling Otto a coward, and she jokes that Otto made a retiring Valkyrie wear a powerful battlesuit to take out the Herrscher. She reminds Raven that they had spent years preparing for Project Stigma, that their setup was perfect, that their Sire was watching them, and that the future of humanity must rise from Arc City. This causes Raven to agree to the plan once again.[17]
Once defeating Kiana, Raven calls Jackal again, telling her that her mission is done. Jackal responds that she was correct in believing that with the right techniques, even a Herrscher might be defeated. She orders Raven to bring Kiana to their laboratory, but Raven advises against it, instead opting for killing Kiana then. Jackal rejects the idea and labels it a waste, claiming that Kiana was a living specimen of a Herrscher and that she couldn't wait to take Kiana apart and see what made her tick. This prompts Raven to call Jackal insane but, nonetheless, agree to her orders.[18]
Jackal uses comms to get in touch with Raven as soon as she wakes up. She inquires on how Raven is feeling and if she's proud of herself for defeating a Herrscher while also proving Jackal's hypothesis. Raven replies that she hoped Jackal knew what she was doing, to which Jackal says she does. She excitedly says this was the first time they captured a live Herrscher specimen, and her experiments on Kiana would greatly expand their knowledge about the very nature of Honkai itself.[19] However, Raven asks in response if Jackal's experiments would bring back the people killed by the Honkai. This makes Jackal tell Raven that she isn't a scientist and thus wouldn't appreciate what opportunities Kiana could offer. She continues, declaring that one could never defeat an enemy if they refused to understand it, saying that one must embrace, assess, and learn how to defeat their enemy—otherwise Raven's suffering would be for naught. She calls individual suffering and pain a speck of dust, and they were only there to end the suffering that mattered—the suffering caused by Honkai. Lastly, she says they should focus on their respective jobs[6] and orders Raven to push the activation button for Project Stigma.[20]
When with Kiana in the underground laboratory, Jackal runs various tests on her. Following the most recent one, where Kiana was only unconscious for only 0.3 seconds, she calls Kiana's body a work of wonders, constantly managing to heal itself no matter what she does. She asks if Kiana could still talk, and Kiana replies by asking how many people would survive Project Stigma. Questioning if numbers were that important to Kiana, she says she'd share the answer once she had one and continues on to the next test: interconnections between Kiana's Herrscher core and biological tissues.[21]
Kiana begins to scream in pain, with Jackal laughing sadistically through a comms screen at the reaction. She reports that Kiana's cells and tissues exhibited an astonishing level of Honkai resistance and that her Stigmata had started glowing once she injected the Honkai solution. Jackal calls the patterns beautiful while saying her faith in her Sire's promises of the future had grown.[22] Kiana mentions how no one in the city had Stigmata except for the Zombies, saying that Jackal's calculations were wrong. Jackal calls Kiana's words preposterous, refusing to discuss details of her profession with a "lab rat," and instead initiates a new test. Yet, Kiana continues insisting that Jackal must have done her math wrong, causing yet another round of torturous tests to ensue.[23]
Kiana continues to scream as Jackal speaks, calling Kiana an insect that acquired powers she didn't deserve and saying she wouldn't let Kiana insult the divine knowledge poised to shape their future. She says that only she knew about her changes to the vaccine and how much Honkai was needed to purify the city and fully activate the people's stigmata, not realizing she just told Kiana that she was releasing Honkai into the city. Once Kiana questions her again, Jackal demands that they skip the other tests and go straight for the dissection.[24] At this, Kiana smiles, revealing she wasn't in pain at all and was instead faking for information. Jackal is stunned, saying that such a thing isn't possible, but is cut off as Kiana begins to hit at Jackal's comms screen over and over. Jackal attempts to throw out a threat but is silenced by the screen's destruction before describing it.[25]
Chapter XV
Jackal is seen standing in front of a screen showing when Durandal rescued and took Kiana. She speaks herself, recalling how they've cleaned the Gray Serpent's black market and Heliopolis Life Sciences while also letting Raven retreat successfully. Jackal says that while Project Stigma almost succeeded, losing Kiana dealt another blow to their progress. She then addresses Durandal on the screen before switching over to Kevin Kaslana—their Sire—telling him how Durandal had taken Kiana to a Honkai-devastated city in North Africa, which also happened to be a testing ground for the 2nd Divine Key.[26] Kevin orders Jackal to deploy the forces, saying they have a lot of work to do. In response, Jackal notes that fifteen minutes and thirty-six seconds earlier, Kiana had willingly activated her Herrscher form while making contact with the EOS reactor, indicating that her metamorphosis had already begun. Jackal suggests they include Kiana in the plan, but Kevin says he had other plans for Kiana, which Jackal responds with understanding towards.[27]
Later on, Jackal reports to Kevin while they are attacking Schicksal Vimur Labs, saying their vanguard has breached base defenses and engaged Durandal. Kevin asks about Kiana's status, to which Jackal replies that they had no sightings of her yet and are continuing their search. Kevin orders that she keep Durandal occupied while he handles Kiana, and Jackal obliges.[28] Lastly, after Kevin's encounter with Fu Hua, Jackal asks what happened. She then updates Kevin that Kiana escaped using her powers and they failed to locate her and that Durandal was approaching his current location.[29]
Chapter XVI
Raven briefly mentions Jackal to Raiden Mei as being the mad lady who cruelly experimented on Kiana during her stay in Arc City.[1]
Chapter XVIII
Jackal appears during Mei's training at World Serpent. She calls Mei hardworking and says that the Honkai energy within her was stabilizing, making her worthy of wielding her current powers. Mei responds, saying she didn't want to be disturbed, to which Jackal replies by telling Mei to not be so mean, as the two of them were friends and should get along as such. Jackal begins discussing her desire to know Mei better, but Raven interrupts her, urging her to stop wasting time.[30]
Raven tells Jackal to get on with the business at hand, and Jackal does as such, telling Mei that it was time for her to unleash her Herrscher powers, as there were Imaginary Singularity observations that predicted a Honkai event would birth a Herrscher.[31] She then explains to Mei that capturing every Herrscher was critical to Project Stigma, though Kevin couldn't lead the mission himself as he was busy elsewhere. They got a chance to demonstrate their devotion to Kevin and the effectiveness of Project Stigma by capturing the Herrscher.[32] Mei interprets Jackal's explanation as a mission to kill a Herrscher, but Jackal swiftly corrects her, stating a dead Herrscher means nothing to World Serpent. Instead, they needed "suspended" Herrschers. Once saying such, Jackal then gives a gift to Mei—the Scepters of Duat.[33] Raven understands the Scepters to be the Imaginary Disrupters mentioned in their briefing, and Jackal introduces the objects as marvels from the Previous Era that even Schicksal couldn't replicate. She says she hopes that Mei can experience the Scepter's powers for herself and that they are extremely valuable, with only eight having been crafted, so she shouldn't use them prudently. When Mei asks how to use the Scepters, Jackal only chuckles in response, saying Mei will know how to use them.[34]
Owl later mentions Jackal when discussing the use of the Scepters. He says Jackal claimed that the Scepters are limiters that interfere with the Honkai energy output of a Herrscher's core by adding "twists" to the connection between the core and Imaginary Space. Lastly, Raven mentions Jackal when telling Mei to pick an officer's codename, warning Mei that Jackal may pick one for her if she doesn't choose one herself.[35]
Chapter XXI
After Herrscher of Sentience's awakening, she went to attack both Schicksal and, secondly, World Serpent. Jackal watches on a screen as the Herrscher of Sentience destroys their patrol mechs and initially mistakes her for Fu Hua before remembering that Fu Hua was dead, so the perpetrator had to be someone else. She realizes that the Fu Hua in front of her must be connected to Otto, but just as she reaches to call Schicksal HQ, the Herrscher of Sentience makes eye contact with her through the camera, announces that she has wiped out Schicksal, states that World Serpent is next, and demands that Kevin come see her.[36] Herrscher of Sentience then slams her fist into the ground, destroying all the drones and cameras, causing them to lose track of her.[37] This causes Jackal to curse and send all units to their battle stations while saying she'd flay the Herrscher of Sentience herself. She gives her last orders, stating that no one should trouble Kevin with the situation.[38]
Jackal is heard delivering more commands to units when Herrscher of Sentience enters the building, one of which is to kill Herrscher of Sentience on sight.[39] She continues to broadcast to the units, which prompts Herrscher of Sentience to call Jackal stupid and noisy. In response, Jackal says that if the Herrscher of Sentience surrendered, she'd grant her a dignified death. She says nothing in the base can escape her jackal ears, and messing with the World Serpent means death. Herrscher of Sentience calls Jackal a minion in turn, which makes Jackal restate her orders to her units.[40] However, Jackal's World Serpent mechs prove to be useless against the Herrscher of Sentience, with Jackal getting increasingly more frustrated as she loses mechs and tactics. When Jackal traps her in a corridor and uses an electromagnetic field on the Herrscher of Sentience, the girl simply floats.[41] Yet, with the Herrscher of Sentience trapped, Jackal then decides to use heat instead.[42]
As Jackal continues to attack with Spider Bombs, threatening to give Herrscher of Sentience no chance, the rising heat forces Herrscher of Sentience to find another way out of the corridor.[43] As Herrscher of Sentience searches for an opening to escape, Jackal keeps mocking her, but all she gets in return is silence, with Jackal eventually yelling at Herrscher of Sentience to say something.[44] The Herrscher of Sentience stays quiet and instead ends up finding a weak point in a wall and smashes it open to retreat. Jackal is shocked by this and is driven to think seriously about whether the Herrscher of Sentience was human or was even Fu Hua.[45] She begins to sweat but takes rationality in remembering that she shouldn't bother Kevin. So, in response to Herrscher of Sentience's outbreak, Jackal sends out Death Webs.[46]
The Death Webs are initially ineffective on Herrscher of Sentience, but once Jackal disables their autonomous mode and executes AI override, she effectively gives Herrscher of Sentience the lifeless opponents she asked for.[47] While Herrscher of Sentience fights, Jackal attempts to praise World Serpent but fails when Herrscher of Sentience mocks her in response.[48] Eventually, the Herrscher of Sentience manages to defeat all the Death Webs. This urges Jackal to not hold back any longer, but before she unleashes everything she's prepared for a Herrscher, she is stopped by Kevin appearing behind her.[49]
The recollection [Schicksal Valkyrie] tells the story of a girl called Leila. Her parents both died to a Honkai attack, leaving both her and her sister Qingqiu without support and living in a cold shack in an undisclosed location. Shortly afterwards, in an attempt at securing their livelihood, Leila joined the Valkyries.[2] As a B-rank Valkyrie she used Schicksal's memory travel room to reminisce visiting her sister and promising to buy her a dress from her first wage. Qinqiu died before her twelveth birthday. Leila spent at least ten years as a Valkyrie, eventually reaching B-rank[7][note 1] before leaving Schicksal for World Serpent.

As this content might be questioned by the community, information from this section shouldn't be quoted or referenced as if it was factual on other pages and, when referenced, it should be placed under a Speculations header there as well.
- Although it was never spelled in full, many people assumed her full name to be Leila Cleo with Cleo being the surname. With the release of Chapter XXXII, Durandal is the first person to address her by her full name,[8] which brings the possibility that her old name was actually Leila Hypatia and she changed her given name from Leila to Cleo.
- Leila Cleo could have still been her old name given that in some cultures the order of the names is reversed, a prime example being Erdős Helia, and Jackal's origin remains a mystery.
- The beginning of her title, "Cleo", refers to Clio, the muse of history, whose name is also spelt as "Cleo".
- The ending of her title, "Hypatia", refers to Hypatia, the Neoplatonist philosopher, astronomer, and mathematician.

- Jackal was suddenly interrupted. Raven appeared out of nowhere and stood between her and Mei.
- ↑ Chapter XVIII, Winds of War
- Raven: Get on with the business at hand.
- Jackal: You just spoiled all the fun.
- Jackal: The time has come for you to unleash your powers for the Serpent, Raiden Mei.
- Jackal: Imaginary Singularity observations predicted a Honkai event that shall create an apex entity crucial to our plans...
- Jackal: Yes, you know it, Raiden Mei. It will give birth to a Herrscher like you...
- ↑ Chapter XVIII, Winds of War
- Jackal: Simply put, a key objective of Project: STIGMA is to acquire every single Herrscher.
- Jackal: But our Sire will not personally lead this mission as he is busy elsewhere.
- Jackal: This is our chance as our Sire's most steadfast followers to prove our devotion and ensure the success of STIGMA.
- ↑ Chapter XVIII, Winds of War
- Mei: So our mission is just to kill a Herrscher?
- Jackal: No. A dead Herrscher means nothing to us. The Serpent needs "suspended" Herrschers.
- Mei: Suspended?
- Jackal: I have prepared a small gift for you...
- Jackal: Behold, the Scepters of Duat, the WAS of the Underworld.
- Jackal revealed a gold and black box measuring several inches long. It looked like the mask of Tutankhamun.
- ↑ Chapter XVIII, Winds of War
- Raven: Oh, this must be the Imaginary Disrupter mentioned in the briefing.
- Jackal: Disrupter? Please, do not sully this majestic device with such common labels.
- Jackal: This is a marvel from the Previous Era that even Schicksal couldn't replicate. You can't even fathom its value.
- Jackal: Truth be told, I hope you can experience its powers for yourself.
- Jackal: Unfortunately, these Scepters are too valuable. Our resources only let us craft 8 of them. Do be prudent with their use.
- Mei: How do you use them?
- Jackal: Hur hur... you will know.
- While the masked lady chuckled, a slight vibration accompanied by electrical noise spread through the corridors.
- ↑ Chapter XVIII, Battle Plan
- Owl: Simply put, the Scepters are limiters that disrupt the Honkai energy output of a Herrscher's core.
- Owl: Jackal said they do this by introducing interfering "twists" to the link between the core and Imaginary Space.
- [...]
- Raven: Speaking of which... you haven't given yourself an officer's codename.
- Mei: No, I didn't.
- Raven: I advise you to think of one ASAP or Jackal will be the one giving you names.
- Raven: You don't want that to happen, right?
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Tiger's Den
- Jackal: ...Who is this?
- Jackal couldn't take her eyes off the wasted mechs on the screen, and the mysterious girl on top of the mech pile.
- Jackal: All of the patrol mechs are down... Hey, zoom in and let me have a better look.
- The operator did her bidding.
- Jackal: ...Hua?!
- Jackal: No, she's dead already. So who the hell is this one?
- Another trick of Otto's? The thought soon crept up her mind.
- Jackal: It's gotta be him again... Damn this backstabber! Give me Schicksal HQ! Now!
- Exactly this moment, the mysterious girl lifted her head and made eye contact with Jackal through the screen.
- [...]
- "Hua": Ah, forget it. Just prepare yourselves. I've mopped up Schicksal, and you're next.
- [...]
- "Hua": Kevin, come see me.
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Tiger's Den
- She slammed her fist into the ground, and the tremor was instantly felt by Jackal hundreds of feet below.
- When she checked the monitor again, all the drones had fallen, feeding back images of cracked camera lenses.
- They lost track of the girl.
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Tiger's Den
- Jackal: Curses!
- Jackal: All units to battle stations! I'm gonna flay her myself!
- Jackal: And...
- Jackal: Do not... trouble Sire with this.
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Tiger's Den
- ???: Alert, all units! This is Jackal. The intruder is in the vicinity of B2-7! 3rd Mecha Legion, get ready for attack! Kill on sight!
- ???: I repeat! Kill on sight!
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Tiger's Den
- Jackal: The intruder is at the conjunction of Passage 5 and 7. Regiment 1 and 4, surround her and drive her to the Helix.
- "Hua": This one is so noisy! And stupid too! I've never seen anyone who broadcast their tactics to enemies...
- Jackal: You scared? Surrender now and I'll grant you a dignified death!
- "Hua": Oh, so you can hear me after all.
- Jackal: Nothing in this base can escape my jackal ears! Mess with the World Serpent and you're as good as dead!
- "Hua": That's some big talk from a minion.
- Jackal: Hear me? Get her now!
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Tiger's Den
- "Hua": Stop wasting your machines. I mean, though they're useless, they must've cost a lot.
- Jackal: Shut up! That's called tactics, you wouldn't understand.
- "Hua": Your tactics don't seem to be working well.
- Jackal: There's more! Take this — Electromagnetic Field active!
- The gateway was shut down, and a blue flood of electricity rushed in, stirring up the mech debris on the floor.
- Jackal: ...Curses!
- On the monitor, the intruder was effortlessly floating in the air.
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Tiger's Den
- All of a sudden, sizzling hot air flew in from all sides.
- Jackal: Have you ever used a oven to roast a chicken?
- Jackal: Keep flying. You'll become a toasted bird in no time.
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Ocean of Flames
- "Hua": Ah... they got me.
- [...]
- Jackal: You think this is the best I can do?
- Following Jackal's hysterical cry, a flood of Spider Bombs rushed out of the mech wreckage.
- Jackal: That's where you're wrong! I don't give any chances!
- Jackal: Enjoy your last breaths.
- "Hua": Time is running out...
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Ocean of Flames
- "Hua": (These should be the weak spots.)
- Jackal: *sniffs* Is that a burning smell?
- [...]
- Jackal: Say something!
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Ocean of Flames
- Jackal couldn't believe her own eyes.
- A gigantic hole grew out of the ultra rigid heat-proof wall that she deemed impregnable.
- Jackal: What is this?! Is she human?!
- She was forced to entertain this ridiculous idea.
- Jackal: Is she really... Hua?
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Ocean of Flames
- Jackal's cold sweat began to drip like rain.
- Jackal: (If it's true, there's all the more reason to keep this from Sire...)
- Jackal: (Death Webs... don't let me down.)
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Mountain of Blades
- Jackal: ...What did you do?
- "Hua": Oh, so the strong sentience I felt before came from this... thing.
- "Hua": Sorry to break your heart, but anything that breathes doesn't work on me. I hope you have better toys.
- Jackal: ...
- Jackal: Disable autonomous mode and execute AI override.
- "Hua": ...What did you do?
- Jackal: Well, you asked for lifeless opponents, and here they are.
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Mountain of Blades
- Jackal: See? Our technology is 20 years ahead of this era!
- "Hua": Really? But it's still 50 thousand years behind the technology of a simple era I've seen.
- Jackal: ...I'll kill you!
- ↑ Chapter XXI, Mountain of Blades
- Jackal: I'm not holding back anymore. I'll unleash everything prepared for Herrscher hunt on her... everything...
- Jackal: Today, I must...
- ???: No need to waste time.
- Jackal: Ah...
- Jackal turned back and found her Sire right behind her.
