Durandal/Story

Durandal is an S-Rank Valkyrie of Schicksal and the captain of the Immortal Blades.^[1]

Appearance

Durandal has voluminous, wavy blonde hair fading into a coral pink at the bottom which descends past her waist. Her hair is usually left loose, but the battlesuits, Dea Anchora and Reign Solaris, her hair is depicted tied up in a high ponytail. She possesses deep blue eyes along with a slim figure. Durandal uses lances in battle.

Story

Durandal is a high-ranking officer within the organization of Schicksal, the captain of Immortal Blades, and also one of the three S-Rank Valkyrie. Her adjutant is Rita Rossweisse who is also the vice captain of Immortal Blades and a fellow S-Rank Valkyrie. Rita was also her adjutant for their mission four years ago.

As mentioned by Theresa Apocalypse, Murata Himeko, and Fu Hua in the game storyline, Durandal is currently the strongest S-Rank Valkyrie in Schicksal. Theresa mentioned the other two S-Ranks are strong due to their natural talents but Durandal is different because she relies on pure hard work.

Her weapon is the Abyss Flower which was previously wielded by the two most powerful Valkyrie in Schicksal's history, the late Cecilia Schariac (Kiana Kaslana's mother) and Reanna Brigantia.

It has two forms; the Javelin form which controls decomposition, and the Lance which provides living things with regeneration and recovery.

The lance form is usually used, and the javelin form has yet to be seen. The alternative lance form also holds the power of decomposition.

Durandal (Visual Novel)

Sometime in 2000, Bianka was born and later found herself in a terrible situation. A Honkai outbreak struck her hometown and destroyed almost everything. However, she managed to survive due to her natural resistance to Honkai energy. Tragically, Bianka only remembered one thing after the catastrophe: her own name.

Later, Bianka was sent to an orphanage. Because she no longer remembered anything about herself except for her name, the people who ran the orphanage randomly chose January 1, 2000 as her birthday.

In the summer of 2010, Ragna Lothbrok, the commander of the Vanguard (aka Stormtrooper), visited the orphanage to help relieve the sorrow of those affected by Honkai outbreak. The presence of this woman shed light on many orphans, including Bianka. Because of that, Bianka was expecting her to come back when the lilies Ragna and the orphans planted together at the orphanage have fully bloomed.

Spring 2011, Ragna did not come back as she had died in a battle. In her stead, Himeko visited the orphanage. Although Bianka hated her at first due to how different she was compared to the friendly attitude of Ragna, she quickly changed her mind when Himeko told her about the tragedy.

Bianka decided to become a strong Valkyrie as soon as possible. However, the slow and relaxed pace of the training in St. Freya Academy led her to the Schicksal HQ. Bianka then quickly became an A-Rank Valkyrie at the age of 12.^[5]

Bianka and Rita were sent on a mission to the Sea of Quanta on February 29, 2012. Four years later, Bianka is shown to be using the name "Durandal" from a sword they met during the mission.

Chapter III

Himeko reports Wendy's awakening as a Herrscher to HQ to dispatch an S-rank Valkyrie due to high risk of letting Wendy roam free. Kiana and her friends have 30 minutes to find her. During their search, Himeko reports several pieces of bad news to them. First, Wendy has been classified as 4th Herrscher and they dispatch the strongest S-rank Valkyrie, Durandal. Second, several battleships from Anti-Entropy are coming to this location too, possibly to retrieve the Gem of Desire as well. Taking this opportunity, Theresa purposely reveals Durandal's location in the public channel to be intercepted by the battleships so both of them engage in battle, giving Kiana and her friends more time to find Wendy.

Kiana and her friends later catch up to Wendy but Wendy spares them out of her kindness and flies away again after a brief conversation. During their chase, Theresa informs them that Durandal found out about Theresa giving away her location and is now being suspected of colluding with Anti-Entropy. Theresa is lucky that she is still busy with Anti-Entropy and she needs them to find Wendy immediately, although Theresa complains about Durandal giving her a hard time while Theresa was a trainer.

After a while, Theresa informs the group that Durandal has sent Anti-Entropy packing and she needs to give a valid reason for her actions. Kiana and her friends suggest different reasons as excuses to try to bluff Durandal. Theresa finds Kiana's reason, which is Anti-Entropy happening to be on a holiday and encountering her on the way, contains no flaw and relays it to Durandal, and somehow buys it! Theresa is saved, for now.

Chapter IX

As the fight between Fu Hua and Rita ensued, Durandal made her first appearance and interfered in the heated battle. Earlier, Fu Hua had overheard from Otto on how Theresa and the others were fighting against Sirin in K423's body and tried to leave, but Rita stopped her and told her not to interfere with Otto's plans. Fu Hua realized Rita was stalling the battle and both parties were about to start fighting seriously.

Durandal stopped their fight before it could get worse and told Rita to let Fu Hua go as she understood the concept of fighting for the ones she wanted to protect. Rita then asked Durandal why she let Fu Hua go because she could die if she went there, and Durandal said that it was also Fu Hua's own choice.

Personality

Durandal was shown to be mature, quick at making decisions, and a little hot-headed when she was 12. Theresa states how she would often lecture senior officers on the importance of hard work whenever they tried to take a break, much to her dismay. She is also somewhat gullible. As she fell for Kiana and Theresa's “vacation” excuse when they ratted her out to Anti-Entropy to buy time.

Durandal is very serious about her work as a high-ranking officer and Valkyrie within the Schicksal organization. However, she is also an understanding person as she asked Rita to let Fu Hua go during their battle. Durandal understood that Fu Hua is fighting for the ones she wants to protect and mentioned she would do the same if put in a similar situation.

Durandal is overall a kind, compassionate and hardworking person who is dedicated to saving lives and her duty as a Valkyrie.

Trivia

• Her nickname, Durandal, is the name of a sword she and Rita met four years ago in the Sea of Quanta. The sword's previous owner was Rowland, a paladin of Charlemagne.
• Her first name, Bianka is an Italian cognate of Blanche, which means "white".
• Her surname, Ataegina is derived from the name of a goddess worshipped by the ancient Iberians, Lusitanians, and Celtiberians of the Iberian Peninsula that is located between Spain and Portugal.
• In Ana's Letter, Durandal seems to have a friend relationship with Ana Schariac.
• Durandal is apparently quite popular among Schicksal personnel, evident by a group of young Valkyries eager to ask for her autograph when she was going grocery shopping, though she is rather oblivious about her own popularity.
• In the "London Holiday" graphic novel, Durandal ate Haggis for the first time. Though when she asked Rita as to what haggis actually was, the latter avoided the question, much to Rita's amusement.
• In the Durandal's Pilgrimage event, Rita states that despite following a healthy lifestyle, Durandal is an extremely active sleeper, as she would often roll around in bed while kicking off the quilt and occasionally drool.
• Durandal and Rita own a Honkai cat named Stan, which the former often dotes on and the latter often teases for fun.
