The Sign of Apaosha

The Sign of Apaosha, also known as the Sign of Truth, is a "celestial mark" that is capable of reflecting the sea of stars beyond the false sky. It has been known to appear in Khaenri'ah and Sumeru, and can apparently be created by human means.[1][2] In Sumeru, it appeared as a giant, dark hole in the sky with inverted crystal spikes extending out of it.
The Sign seems to represent a weakening of the boundaries between Teyvat and the outer universe, as Barbeloth states that its presence in several of Khaenri'ah's lakes rendered the fabric of space there "comparatively unstable," making it easier to "break through the firmament." Also, when Mona attempted to open a Sign of Apaosha at Barbeloth's instruction, Abyssal creatures "that roam beyond the false sky" emerged through it instead, suggesting that it can function as a portal.[2]
Sumeru
The Sign of Apaosha first appeared in Sumeru after the Cataclysm, when the Abyssal rift at Tunigi Hollow was sealed by the Harvisptokhm. At the time, the Pari worked together with the forebears of the Order of Skeptics to extinguish it, after which it became the Order's responsibility to maintain the Harvisptokhm's seal. However, the Order deteriorated over time and the Abyssal defilement built up, leading to the re-emergence of the Sign of Apaosha in the present day. The Pari Sorush, assisted by Traveler and Paimon, ultimately extinguished the Sign again by performing the Rite of Chinvat using the power of the Great Songs of Khvarena.[3]

Etymology
- Apaosha is the Avestan name of the demonic personification of drought in Zoroastrianism. He is the epitomized antithesis of Tishtrya (also known as Tir in Persian), divinity of the star Sirius and guardian of rainfall.
